I flew on a United 787-8 from Maui to DFW last year. I'm a big guy and the seat I sat in was 12F, window with very little leg room. I had scrapes and bruises all over my legs from shifting around to get comfortable. Other than that it was a nice plane and a good flight.
I can imagine the struggle of finding a comfortable position on a cramped flight. To my understanding, Boeing originally designed the 787 to be a 2-3-2 configuration aircraft in economy, but finance peps at the airlines had another idea, that’s why almost every 787 operator has a 3-3-3 layout, or in JAL’s case a 2-4-2 layout.

United doesn’t fly from Maui to DFW.
