Apart from the fact that the government has imposed these extreme and unjustified measures illegally, despite increasingly overwhelming evidence. I find it totally abhorrent and immoral that they've turned citizens against each other, through fear, and in doing so have shown themselves unfit to govern. In deciding to comply would therefore also be irresponsible and immoral. As famously stated "All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".

I believe you are correct, that this will change governance and liability globally as did the Nuremberg Trials. I add that alongside a new international criminal prosecutions framework or equivalent, IMHO we must innovate and educate new approaches for 'forgiveness and reconciliation', so that instead of cycles of retribution and bitterness, we open doors to a new age of cooperation and harmony, not least to address the huge challenges beyond the current situation.

Every citizen of the UK should watch this fascinating and insightful lecture given by Lord Sumption. It is of such importance that it amazes me how little debate on these issues has taken place in the public domain. We’ve been hugely let down by so many... from government, opposition, organisations such as Liberty, the police and most of our mainstream media. There are just no real statesmen/women left in the corridors of power! But I’m confident that eventually the uk population will catch up and history will judge those engaging in such appalling and ill -advised actions. History always does!

Outstanding lecture- an excoriating analysis of the appalling actions (and inaction) by the government, parliament and police and our shockingly rapid descent into authoritarianism and a police state. I, for one, would wish to ask a couple of questions of Lord Sumption:
    1) Firstly, I was genuinely amazed at the length, complexity and detail contained in the various pieces of emergency legislation put before and passed by Parliament (Lord Sumption himself outlined comprehensively all they contained), and find it quite remarkable how closely the provisions echo those in the equivalent legislation of a great many nations. A more cynical man might think they had (a) been worked up at length over many months and (b) there had been collaboration on text between nations. Does Lord Sumption have a view on this, and would such a thing be common practice?
    2) I do not know if the good Lord takes much interest in global(ist) politics rather than his obvious wide understanding of law and its application internationally, but I would be most interested to hear his views on whether he believes this push for authoritarianism on a global scale is in some way coordinated and/or linked to the WEF’s “Great Reset” and the UN’s Agenda 21 and the seeming drive towards global, autocratic government. Is this something he believes to be the case, to be in any way desirable for the UK and how might it affect governance within the UK?
    3) I was most interested to here Lord Sumption’s thoughts on the civic duty, currently, to look not just to obeying the Covid legislation & regulations (on dodgy ground as the may be) but also to take a pragmatic, moral view on how far to obey, ignore or resist them. Given that I agree with his assessment that it does not appear likely we will release this authoritarian grip of power any time soon and also share his understanding that a more confrontational approach to resisting such bad law & governance is “not the British Way”, I would be keen to hear his thought on the oft quoted (but no doubt misunderstood) concept of “lawful rebellion” and its appropriateness in times such as these. Does such a right (or obligation) still exist; under what circumstances would it be deemed appropriate or necessary, and how does one embody it without falling foul of any legal weight/protection it may have?
We are, indeed, living through truly strange and unprecedented (at least in living memory) times. I can only hope and pray that Lord Sumption will continue to speak out so eloquently, fearlessly and in such considered terms as we navigate a course through these stormy seas. I have no doubt that his sage words will be of exceptional benefit to us all as we endure the challenges ahead.

Have powers been created by the Covid Act which will be used to force compliance, depriving us of our right to decline their kind offer?

Finally managed to listen to this and am so grateful for Lord Sumption's wisdom.
It's a damning indictment of what our government have been up to delivered with such understated clarity.

The resonances with the American lockdowns are many. Lord Sumption speaks so calmly and eloquently, a rational voice in a crazed, hyperbolic atmosphere. Good Lord! We HEAR you from across the pond and across our continent! A delightful talk.

Lord Sumption - thank you so much for your eloquent lecture. I have been peacefully protesting since May as I feel compelled to take action. Your words have given me courage to continue to act despite the increasing measures taken to silence those who speak out.

In the process of working through all Sumption videos I can find. Wonderful. I could listen to him speak all day. I am very glad that figures such as him and Peter Hitchens are on the sceptic side of the argument.

Excellent insight to the much hidden truth. At what time and stage is reasonable to expect personal accountability for the lies and deceit broadcast by government officials, and what consequences can be realistically put forward to a court?

What an excellent lecture. I read a book recently called The Justice Factory by Ian Mitchell whose main point is similar. We are moving quickly from the rule OF law to the rule BY law.

Top Class, Lord Sumption. We have nobody like you, in Ireland. From the beginning, your objections and analysis, still stand and were proven to be correct over time. Thank you, and your Host of course.

The worrying part of all this is that had any other political party been in charge, matters may well have been considerably worse! What is also clear is that the College of Policing and the higher levels of police management must be made accountable for their actions in the past, and bought under more accountability and control in future. Consistency is paramount..."without fear or favour".

Absolutely outstanding! Total clarity of thought and objectivity, exceptionally delivered. I worry that so few people understand the significance of this huge leap towards an authoritarian state.

Thank you so much, Lord Sumption - you are loved. 🙏🏻
We do indeed, need to object, in a peaceful & humane fashion, as two wrongs, don’t make a right. However, when the spoken words & some words on paper do not work, legal, law or otherwise....then it will resort to collective action, because it reverts back to a primal instinct of survival & of being human.
