Tired of city life and in search of adventure, my friend Fraser and I left London on two motorcycles with a plan to drive to Budapest and back. We wanted to leave technology behind, to wild camp, cook our own food, reconnect with others and importantly ourselves.
The journey took two months, crossed 10 countries and covered a distance of over 10,000km. This personal film shot on 16mm documents our motorcycle journey into the wild.
Shot and Directed by Jack Harries & Fraser Rigg
    Edit by Jack Harries
Sound Mix and Design by Sashko Micevski
Music is Corn by Nils Frahm
Lab Services by Kodak Labs London
Shot on 16mm film in France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, The Netherlands.
With special thanks to Michael Ho, Dieter Deswarte, and Dylan Hewitt
    The Book
For the past two years, we’ve been working with the Stanley James Press on designing the Headed East book. 100 pages of 35mm photos, 16mm film scans, journal entries from the road and a pull-out map. We are self-publishing a limited selection of copies. If you’d like to support the project the ‘Headed East;’ book and prints are available in the store.

It hits me to my core. I am in the same place in my life now, I feel like I'm lost and I don't know what to do. This made me realize a lot of things, this is so raw and vulnerable.

    • @kirika20
      @kirika20 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

All Might Jr. My current situation now. I'm lost, I can't move, I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. My whole being tells me that I need to do something but when I try I fail and go back to square one. But this video is very eye opening, it makes me think and hope.

    • @CaptainAMAZINGGG
      @CaptainAMAZINGGG 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

kirika20 I've been in that state for many years and in a way, all my life. I havent had money, had a lot of what am I going to eat etc
But I always know I'm soul. Consciousness. That is the highest and realest identification.. And attachment to any others, is ego based and false and is what caused suffering perspective, I've learned. Because when connected to the infinite potential we are, that essence..Even if things event been best ever.. there will be a sense of freedom as the heart space is open, there will be clarity and truth. It's in our trying to move forward from a place of misalignment within, that we hit roadblocks Kuz the brain is limited and full of nonsense, where as consciousness, our true self, is infinite.
Holding oneself in strictly human identification and mixed with personal limited sneaky belief patterns... is what holds us in place..
Attuning to infinite self/beingness, understanding from within (not just Intellectually), that we are energy making up this body and all other things..that we are actual INFINITE and emitting vibration etc.. kuz we are that... life then can start to happen in ways that match the elevated frequencies of that level of awesome that isn't limited..
Sometimes it just takes a while to shift Kuz ego is addicted to past, to familiar, no matter how uncomfy, and to the false sense of self of the human it thinks it is..
Imagine how fast things would just be for you, if it made all the sense ever and was your dominant understanding that you are infinite, whole, magnificence itself, totally incredible, success is guaranteed and you can have do and be anything you felt called by?!
The only thing ever in The way, is how we perceive, what we are focusing on, and which thoughts and feeling states we allow to be activated dominantly within us. Letting things be whatever, instead of going within and determining what is our favourites, and making it a continual daily practice to shift accordingly
If you know you're incredible, and you know you wanna feel incredible, so you think on that which is incredible and perceive in ways that are incredible... How likely would it be that you also naturally and fairly effortlessly take inspired action that is the extension of that ?!
Simply because the correct preferred foundation has been built.
You can't dwell in lack and separation, and Feel great, be in clarity, and win at life, yanno?

It is so strange to say this because I don’t know Jack personally, I am just somebody who has been watching JacksGap ever since it‘s old days. but I have a great feeling of pride for the beautiful human Jack has grown into, I feel so proud of the things he has been doing lately. Lending a hand to refugees and telling their stories, highlighting their issue and traveling in search of people and in search of the soul. I have no explanation for this pride. I pray he’ll live a full life 💛

Depression comes from all kinds of dark corners. And it catches those of us who never thought it would. The wicked thing is that it makes us stronger and I hate it for that. It makes you appreciate and find happiness in small things in a way that you didn't before. It gives you thoughts and understanding of people that you didn't know you could have. In a way it defined my path and made me stronger in making me know who I was. All the best to you, Jack.

THIS. I think people on this platform used to those kind of contents. It's not necessarily bad contents but it's just contents for those who seek popularity. I sub to his channel for that kind of content back then but his channel keeps growing to be more than just another silly good looking TH-camr and I'm so glad. He made art and awareness out of the rough time he's going through. I just wish he doesn't have to struggle with how the viewers demand or what kind of content he post or how often he post. I hope he gets better.

"Living in cities you can end up feeling lonely and isolated" has never rung so true! My university exchange year in London was perhaps the loneliest and most isolated I have ever felt in my life. Fast track to now living in Wanaka NZ in the mountains I've never been happier. No longer posting on TH-cam/privatising my old videos has cleared a significant amount of anxiety/pressure and I am slowly getting back to a stoked/frothing me, creating what I want, when I want :)

I've been awaiting the day you would begin to post again on TH-cam. This was worth the years Jack. I'm glad you were able to pause and figure out why you were doing what you are doing. It's visible that you've taken the time to get to know yourself more in-depth.
It stands out [to me] that you said tons of followers made you feel hollow. People often think followers make them feel a deeper level of fulfillment and I don't think that's the case.
Out of all of the youtubers I watched in both high school and college, you and Finn always stood out to me. You both have used your platforms for organizations larger than yourselves. It has been an honor to grow up watching and learning from you two. I'm excited to own this book!!!

Yay welcome back! As a merchant mariner, i'd recommend sailing...any of the oceans. Like 1-2 months at sea ( yacht or sail boat or cargo ships). The experience is unlike any other, pale in comparison to any travel on land. Words can't describe what the enlightenment is, it is like your motorcycle trip ten folds, it changes you completely. For everyone it is different, for me I found my purpose in life.

This is beautiful. Just remember that you're subscribers aren't just units or statistics. Each person who subscribes to you has a life as vivid and as complex as your own. It's easy to hollow it out as a meaningless number, it's hard to imagine four million people right? I can barely imagine four. The content you've made has evolved so much and your audience has with you, we want to see the things you're up to, learn and almost experience them. My point is, we're not just meaningless numbers and I'm sorry that you've felt that way.

Thank you for this. For your honesty with us and most importantly... For being honest with yourself. You knew when to stop and search for your purpose, I'm sure you inspired lots of people by shearing your truth. You're a beautiful human being Jack, full of light. And you are not alone. ❤️

I subscribed way back in 2011 when I was in middle school and I thought your quirky little videos were hilarious. As time progressed, your content began changing and it wasn't just silly collabs and mail videos anymore, they slowly began having far greater meanings. Your content, starting with the Rickshaw Run series, began taking on greater subjects; the shed sessions, collaboration projects, the following heart series. And now this, this pièce de résistance, holy whack. Thank you for producing these videos that have truly aided in my growth, and I'm sure plenty others'. They've always offered a reminder that on the daily basis we're only encountering the superficial aspects of life but that the deeper layers are available to those who actively search. proud to be a fan!

Jack, you have some of the best content here on TH-cam. You create inspiring and meaningful work which is hard to make, yet you do it anyways. I have so much respect for you and your work 🙌🏼💛

I have never commented under any video and I have never cried on a video on TH-cam, but this was really something which many people carry in their hearts but they don't take action. You are the perfect role model for our generation. Please keep up the good work and spread the truth. (by the way I am so happy you have visited my beloved city Budapest)

My goodness Jack 😱, I never never thought, never in a million years, that you'd be feeling like that. I was, and still am a follower, and I wish that one day I can call you friend. I wish you all the best! You're such a hugely inspiring person! I really admire your desire to tell stories, stories sometimes so truth telling, sometimes so touching, sometimes funny, sometimes serious. Thanks for existing man, and sharing those stories with us! I will always remember you and Finn, you guys really touched my adolescent and now adult life, bringing attention to some important topics. Love u lots! :)

Edward Cullen Not really though. I personally was and still am a big Jack and Finn fan, and followed them since 2013, and I never suspected that Jack felt like this. Just like he said, it's hard to tell how people really feel, we don't actually live what their living, we just see what we are presented.
