Thanks for the mention! We love saving roofers money, and are doing very well with our model. We are extremely confident we will remain true to ourselves and our customers as we grow.
I switched away from GAF because of defective shingles, and the granule loss from the lack of enough asphalt, and from the oxidization of the asphalt being done too fast. An insider told me they HDZ was engineered to last AT LEAST 13 years, I finished the roof we were on, and did not do ONE more house roof in HDZ, I absolutely cannot support that kind of company. Apparently knowing that people live an average of 6.something years at one house means that if the average roof makes it through two homeowners there will be no warranty claim and you can sell a new roof and make more money. I just did a roof for a Lawyer that said they are working with a lot a GAF warranty claims. In my area people live at their places for longer then average. The claims are piling up, and GAF is denying them, so they collected the money to upgrade to the enhanced warranty, now they wasted it because GAF won’t pay. Scandalous.
@@ernestosalazar6386 We use Malarkey VISTA AR They are a 5 part Rubberized polymer modified. This keeps them flexible for longer then the 3 part SBS offered by other manufactures. If this is not available use Atlas Pinnacle Impact. They many similar features.
@@ernestosalazar6386 Malarkey are the best if they are available in your market. Fewer contractor rebates and less marketing support, but if you want the absolute best product they are it.
@@MYRONone. We were in the process of switching to Rubberized Polymer modified shingles by MALARKEY ROOFING PRODUCTS. These are a 5 part rubber and polymer asphalt. Atlas makes a polymer modified with 3 part polymer, called Pinnacle IMPACT. That would be my second choice.
I’ve noticed a few defects with Gaf Hdz 1. The white line nailing bleeds out too much and shows on the shingle when installed 2. Some bundles the plastic tape doesn’t line up properly with the sealant line causing them to stick together 3. The 2nd saw layer sticks out further than the bottom layer making it a nightmare to line up properly if you don’t know how to work with defective shingles Nice video as always dmitry
As a former Beacon National SOY, Mike is a great listen and I will be sure to forwarding to each of my own sales people. I love a great Manufacturer’s Rep. Great content! I love these kind of discussions.
Unfortunately for the sales rep I've actually gotten different batches of the same shingles that look different. They look totally different if they come from different plants but they also can look different if you get different batches from the same plant. Ran into a major issue with that with OC Duration last year.
I've been in the Roofing business for over 23yrs here in $.Texas and I'm always willing TO LEARN but above all LISTEN to all and new information...I've always said the roofing GAME is for the young, but the roofing BUSINESS is an Old Mans Game
Saw GAF go down the tubes many years ago..Thinner shingles & warranty refusals not only stopped me from using them but every job I bid those customers would no longer consider GAF..
What an odd mix of comments. GAF has a few things that were not covered. Namely the enhanced warranty, touched on the topic but never went deep. $100 most roofs end up with a bumper to bumper. Even better Master Elite can add workmanship. If GAF wants to hold the bag for 50 years non prorated let them. Every roofer I've ever worked with has likes and dislikes. Fact is it doesnt matter, the relationship between the roofer and the manufacturer rep is all that matters. Touching on pricing, 100% correct. He didnt go into deep detail but at the end of the day Manufacturers are pushing the higher numbers in the Midwest and around as they see more profitable way to do business. The fact its a pass through just makes it easier.
As long as the shingles are manufactured from the same plant then they won't differentiate in color. Trust me...having shades in the roof is not pleasant to look at.

Gaf sealer strip sucks. They said they fixed it, but they didn't. 2x sealer strip of junk didn't fix it. Didn't take them long, few years, to fuck up Elk acquisition
Use to use elk 20 years before gaf baught them. Elk was probly the best demensional shingle at that time. Once gaf baught them yes they fucked them up.
For clarity, I don’t work for GAF anymore. My intention was to communicate that there is a misunderstanding about what causes discoloration. It’s not with the granules unless from different plants. Could be press. Could be angle. Could be asphalt staining (usually temporary). But it’s not because of new batch of granules arriving at the plant at a later date.
As a TM for one of the biggest suppliers- loved your comment on drinking and
"wine and dining" customers. Staying sharp and on it is much appreciated.

Great conversation. Thank you
On the sprinklers in every home , when the system goes off for no reason the house could be ruined and cost a full replacement is the problem
Great point! Didn’t think about that!
Great video!
GAF is a great marketing company who happens to sell shingles
Tamko has 3 plant's. Dallas,Joplin and Philipsburg.

Mike & Dmitry, you briefly touched on gaf uhdz. Can you discuss or give your option on gaf uhdz shingle vs hdz?
I would also like to hear about uhdz vs hdz
GAF help me grow my roofing business and make more money per job in Canada, in Canada I believe they are the best company all around

American roof supply is the best
Sprinklers save buildings . . . smoke detectors save lives . . .
Bullshit on the “I can get everything paid for based on code”. You can do that in matching states with old materials yes.
Never used any GAF after Henry Fonda stopped being the spokesperson...geee a f
Nice catch - not many people know the film history! I have a collection of GAF ViewMasters and projectors from the 1970s
GAF double talk @ minute 20 busted?

Home Depot has gotten so much better
Ohio!
Thats not true, the plant codes are part of the lot# plant codes do matter!
Prices in canada went down from 2009 to 2012 and from 2020 till now almost doubled
They doubled for us when they went down for you. Since they doubled. They gave went up 10 every year since o8. Crazy
Home Depot pays more. Yet ABC wrecks the contractor with the price.
