Rigging Ballyhoo: How To Rig A Skirted Ballyhoo The Quick Way

  • Want to know the fastest way to rig a ballyhoo (skirted) like the pros do?
Then check out this awesome ballyhoo rigging tip from the guys over at Team Ripper Fishing. It's certainly the best way to rig ballyhoo that we've seen.
This style of rigging ballyhoo requires no flossing, no wire, no rubber bands, and none of the "traditional" ways of dressing up a ballyhoo (which take forever).
This method also makes your ballyhoo last longer and in some cases can go 4+ hours before getting washed out.
    Why ballyhoo?
Well if you are bluewater fishing for pelagics (from billfish to wahoo to mahi mahi), then using a ballyhoo for bait can be one of your best choices to catch more offshore fish.
Any questions on the rig or tackle we used in the video to rig this ballyhoo?
Let us know in the comments.

Nicely done gentlemen the crimps are. Rel game changer ! I grew up in south Florida before they h good Crimping supplies and we tied everything with wire many many poked bleeding fingers late at night. Getting ready for the next morning ! Eventually. I did find a pair of Stanley brand small Needle nose pliers in a hardware store I still have and got pretty good with working on 80lb Stainless Wire with I also found that using a small Jewlers Vise helped me as well for me knowing my mechanical windings. And ties. We’re holding. Always gave me a real satisfaction years ago my Brother-in-law questioned why on my boat I was so Adamant about what rods. Each person got to use and my answer was simple even though they might all look the same to him they are marked and I know who rigged each and everyone so if a failure occurs I know who did the Sloppy work

Great video, my understanding of circle hooks is that they should be unubatructed to be efective, I'm curious to see how well the do when placed inside the ballyhoo.

Do you troll them in the motor wash or where in the spread?

nice rig gentleman ... however, that hook is HUGE! Fishing the outer Banks of North Carolina we use smaller. ...A smaller skirt and a smaller hook. still land large Dolphin... and if they're not trophy size that's okay. Fuel is expensive ---We're out there to put meat in the cooler. Thanks guys - great vid!

Hey fellas , new to the offshore game so if my question is dumb just let me know . We fish the canyons off Virginia and Maryland and a lot of people use weights and pop out the eyes . Do I need to do all this because your set up looks a lot cleaner and neater then what I'm seeing up here . Thanks guys , tight lines !!

    • @lauchiestewart8092
      @lauchiestewart8092 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No dumb questions here,
The skirts for the "ballyhoo", or garfish, have a weighted head so it isn't necessary to weight your fish. Popping out the eyes will have no effect either as the skirt covers it.
Also, personally i use white skirts with vertical, red stripes. I align the red stripes with the lateral line of the fish, it effectively represents bloodflow of the fish and suggests it is an easy target.
      Happy fishing mate

I seen your videos. I fish Marathon all the time. I will be down there this december and january per my usual trip. in my opinion you guys do a lot of talking on your videos that doesn't really pertain to knowledge or how to with fishing which looses attention. Also you guys really try to be persistent on subscribing. Good steady content will always give you subscribers. If you're going to talk in all your videos for the first 5-6 minutes before a bait hits the water then talk about how you're rigging, what is the target species, what are the depths, why did you choose that spot, was the current pushing more at 100 or 150, water are the water temp changes, what ledge are you going off, things like that. Showing how, what, and where and providing good content will get you your subscribers.

anytime and I only gave it because I care I love marathon its my favorite place to fish. JON B on youtube has some of the best editing skills i seen. Watch a few of his they are well put together. I completely understand being new to this and I am no expert on doing it I just know I watch a shit ton of fishing content and have a good idea on why I watch certain people over others. I hope you guys do well marathon is a hidden gem, you have the reefs, the ledge off the reefs for pelagic, the humps as always for mani and tuna, the back side for flats fishing, cobia, mackerel, permit, and more. the 7 mile is always fun and the vacate cut is good for cudas

the quick way?? whats the long way? took these clowns 15 minutes to rig one ballyhoo with a bunch of sleeves featuring an appearance by giant bolt cutters. this is the longest way i could possibly imagine rigging a ballyhoo without catching the fish first
