One of the worst experiences in life is to be lonely and isolated while surrounded by people having fun and socialising. That fear of missing out and being reminded that you’re worthless. And going home alone.
Not being picked for a team. Not being invited out. Being ignored. Having your ideas ridiculed. Being rejected.
This is not a new thing. I felt the same way in the 90s long before social media.

    • @partdeux992

miss out from what? I think this is not a matter of loneliness but more about self-esteem. Not pointing fingers. Trying to help you out. Maybe work on that. We all can work on that from time to time. You're absolutely not worthless!!! You matter a ton.

Exactly this. I'm told I should go places like events or gatherings or what have you and meet people but nobody gets that not everyone can just strike up a conversation or that most people are already there with friends and aren't interested in talking to the lonely guy sitting there on his own.

This video made me cry because I struggle with loneliness really badly. It’s to the point where I sometimes don’t even realize how lonely I am because it’s just become the norm for me. I sometimes feel like I’m going a bit crazy because of lack of close confidants. I’m naturally an introverted person that doesn’t mind my own company so for me to feel this way I’m EXTREMELY isolated.
My issue is. I feel I’ve been let down, hurt and disappointed by so many people that my trust in people is just gone. It seems as if every person I’ve ever put my trust in has broken it in the most horrific way possible. I don’t trust my own judge of character anymore and so, as much as being lonely feels terrible, I feel like it’s better than the alternative of being hurt and betrayed again and again. It’s sad but sometimes no company is better than bad company.

Sure I will talk to someone if they talk to me but I don't really try to reach out to people anymore. I have had a lot of supposed friends leech off me and mooch off me. They took a lot of my money and have stolen from me. I just don't want to deal with people anymore because I feel like they will steal from me again and take all my money. @@uhhwhateverdude9463 It's easy to make friends when young because much of your experiences are similar or shared (same class at school, same majors in university, ) Once you are in the work world those friendships often drift as you marry, have kids, get jobs, and move away. Your lives take different paths. Once you are past middle age it is very difficult to find someone who can relate to the majority of your life experiences especially if it is not typical ( experiencing trauma, living with serious or chronic illness, life experience with previous partner that only you could appreciate, unusual or highly specialized career path). Those who die cannot readily be replaced. It is like part of your life died with them. It's hard to differentiate loneliness and grief when you are older....

Looking at the comments, I don’t understand why people think it’s only Older people. I’m 28 and haven’t had any true friends since middle school and high school. As a man, it’s hard to make friends once you hit your mid 20s because that’s the time when most people get married, have kids, settle in careers and etc. loneliness happens a lot earlier than your 40s. people don’t have the time to hangout anymore and when they do it doesn’t feel the same atleast to me. I feel the best you can do as a person who doesn’t have friends is to create life goals for yourself. Travel the world, create art, write a book, meditate, join a social club or church. I’m always making sure I keep my depression and loneliness at bay by playing video games because it’s my favorite hobby. Sometimes I’ll communicate with other players and it fulfills that void.

With how modern life works it's certain that everyone will lose their long term friends few times in their lifetimes. This didn't happen back in the day. Your childhood friends were your friends forever. Then you hang out around people that you can't relate with naturally through common life experiences and suddenly you are isolated.
Career chasing, how schooling system works, universities, decay of rural areas in favor of urban life etc. these are the reasons behind this trend.

Remember, it's important to take care of yourself and prioritize your happiness. Loneliness can be challenging, but it's better to be alone and content than to be surrounded by toxicity. Something you didn't get into that much is the quality of social interactions. I don't think it helps to interact superficially with fake personalities we create to not appal each other. Instead we need to find somebody we can open up to and just be ourselves and then there's another condition: understanding and approval. No matter how imperfect we are, we need somebody who affirms our self image. People often say you just need to reassure yourself of your value, but in the end we are social beings and we do care about what others think about us.

    • @NoSuffix

Oh, and also that "need" for understanding and approval --- My longest lasting relationships i.e. friendships, family (decades already and still going strong) can be without understanding and approval, yet the love & friendship and family carries on strong. Respect/love and genuine politeness, plus a sense of humour make "understanding and approval" unnecessary.

I had good friends and some good family but they have all passed on. The couple of remaining family members are toxic so no contact. Too much of my life has been lived to make friends from scratch now. I get some social interaction at work, and busy myself with hobbies the rest of the time. For a long time it bothered me, but no longer. I’ve tried to be friends with coworkers...it does not work out, especially if your bosses are toxic/competitive. And those kind of people NEED to be in positions of power, so it’s not unusual to see such people controlling everyone, thus that sets the tone for the work force.
Forced positivity also creates a strong feeling of isolation and depression - another common habit in the workplace.

It's important to prioritize your well-being and surround yourself with positive influences. Cherishing the memories and lessons learned from past relationships can be a source of comfort and strength. Engaging in hobbies and finding fulfillment in your own activities can also contribute to your overall sense of contentment. She told me a lot of those people in there are some depressed because how lonely they are like they either didn't had time making friends just being very busy making money or all of their friends are passed away. So they will sometimes will get their family members to come in for a visit or some special person or event is hosted there to cheer the elderly up.

It's completely normal to feel an intense sense of loneliness and heartbreak in such a difficult time. Grief is a complex and individual journey, and there's no right or wrong way to navigate it. It's important to be patient and compassionate with yourself as you heal. Reach out to support groups or seek professional help to connect with others who may have experienced similar losses. Remember that healing takes time, and it's okay to feel a mix of emotions. Cherish the memories of your daughter, and know that she will always hold a special place in your heart.

I understand. What you describe sounds like a kind of trauma. I have been researching this myself as I only recently came to such conclusions regarding my own situations (which partly stemmed from abuse). Narcissistic behavior is fully encouraged and people can be shockingly thoughtless or oblivious about how their own actions affect others. They will preach their “morality” the live-long day, yet never stop to ask a common friend how their day went; it is virtue signaling.

Remember, their behavior is a reflection of them, not of your worth as a person. It's important to surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, rather than tearing you down. While it may seem difficult now, try not to let these negative experiences define your outlook on being a good person. Being kind and caring is a beautiful trait that can attract genuine and compassionate individuals into your life. Take this time to focus on self-care, healing, and rebuilding your self-esteem. Reach out to supportive friends, family members, or seek professional help to navigate through the healing process. You deserve love, respect, and true friendships, and I believe there are kind-hearted individuals out there who will value and appreciate you for who you are.

Loneliness is made all the worse if you don't have the right personality type to escape it. If you're naturally extroverted you're going to find it easier to go out and meet new people should you feel lonely. If however you're more of an introvert, you're most likely going to find socialising a lot more difficult, especially if you go out unaccompanied. I'm 65, introverted, and I've never felt so lonely in all my life. I also have mental health issues. I have one friend who never comes to visit me any more. The reasons he gives are without doubt a complete load of BS. He calls me on the telephone but he never visits, despite the fact I've asked him multiple times. The remaining members of my family very rarely call either, and neither do they visit. I find it hard to get on with people at work as well since the group I work with are one big clique. I'm isolated and excluded on a daily basis hence the reason why I have depression. It's hard to live in a world in which nobody cares about you anymore.

I am an introvert so I don’t need a very busy social life or a lot of friends. But I sure do wish I had a least one real friend. It's great to hear that you have found ways to stay connected through your formal relationships, such as tutoring English language learners. It's important to recognize and appreciate the value that these connections bring to your life. As an introvert, it's understandable that you may not need a busy social life or a large number of friends, but having at least one genuine friend can make a significant difference in feeling understood and supported. While it's natural for friendships to change or fade over time, it's never too late to work on cultivating new connections or rekindling old ones. Consider reaching out to old friends and expressing your desire to reconnect, or explore opportunities to meet like-minded individuals through activities or groups that align with your interests. Remember, building friendships takes effort and consistency, but it's worth it for the meaningful connections and companionship they can provide.

Long befor covid l suffered with loneliness. There were a number of reasons for it
1 my family were not very social
    2 l now live alone
    3 l have social anxiety
4 l am also socially isolated with few people l see regularly
5 Fewer social activities because of the cost of living are being put on.
6 People l know are too busy or tired to socialise.
    These thing all contibute.

My so called "friends" will only come to me when they need something from me; they are merely baggage that I will gladly live without. Those "friends" at the workplace are out ot get me every opportunity they got. It is much preferable to rely on oneself for lifelong happiness.

I've made the mistake of overvaluing workplace friends. I'm not saying you shouldn't be friendly at work, but you need to look elsewhere for true friendship. That is, if you want friends. Not everyone does and there's nothing wrong with that

Hi since you asked what we think about this, I'll say, just in case you haven't seen this, we'll just all die alone. Having and being with friends is good, but at the end of the day, we're just alone. Time for family is good, but I'm not sure about friends. Happy living everyone :)

This vídeo is super useful! !! Most of us, in a moment, feel hurted by our close friends maybe because someone spread gossip or bad comments about us. So it is hard maintain trust and feel confortable with friends, in special if this happened over and over again. ... but we can buildind new friendships with older peoples or try talking with differents peoples like here right now ....here we can exposure opinion, share knowledges ! Thank you friends!!! :)

Soooo glad to see youuu❤ loved the ending of this video! 👏 just recently was thinking what makes most of happiest moments for me and it’s truly people- fam, friends, less close friends, colleagues, teachers 💞the laughs we have, support we give to each other, acceptance 😊 and that’s smth that like u say requires maintenance. This was a big mistake if mine- I was always thinking it will be just there, but no, I need to put in work&effort 😎

Loneliness is practically ridiculous in today's society. Collectively we obviously need to get a better grip on it. Loneliness is also natural and normal, so we have to notice it, accept of for what it is and move through it. Otherwise we take it out on ourselves.
And consequently whether you like it or not we're all in the same boat, so you're going to affect the rest of us if you don't move through your loneliness in a balanced manner.
There are a lot of reasons our society fosters loneliness by perpetuating divisions versus celebrating uniqueness and even apathy if it suits a government or the consumer society. So it's an uphill thing. 🌞🙏♥️
    P.S. You are NOT alone!

    Everyone today has problems.
    Some more than others.
People often have psychological problems they actually feel proud of having.
Thats why its way easier for me to just interact with people online most of the time because i have to use less of my own energy listening to their problems and issues.

I don't know. I reflect this yesterday and back day. I always wondering why I always lonely in my journey until this adulthood. Maybe ya, I am lack of self esteem and lack of social skill. But, even I try to be better to open up and be vulnerable to people that I am feel safe to open up, I am still stuck on one side relationship. Did I am good enough as friend? Why my feeling is not reciprocated? Why I am attract to unavailable people? Did I make mistake along the way? But, feel that way don't make my situation better, just make my feeling miserable. I know, I did my best as I know I think to do. I should accept for what happen and for who I am. In deep, I still don't know,
