The Inner Light is a brutal, beautiful episode.
I think part of the impact was how broken Picard became at the end and how he had nobody to share his experience with.

The inner light. Such a profoundly life altering episode. The man lived a LIFETIME, fell in love, married, had children, lost his WIFE, and then just poof. Back to the ship. Best episode ever
Why was it the best episode ever? As far as I'm concerned, it was a terrible, non-consensual assault on Picard. He never asked to be exposed to this and was taken by force. Plus, to top it off, the society he was unwillingly exposed to was boring as fuck (it seriously was, there's no argument) and was thankfully never referenced again for the reminder of the series, aside from one or two episodes where Picard played the flute in passing. And the aging make-up effects have aged HORRIBLY. I have no idea whosoever why The Inner Light is so well-regarded. It's complete trash.
I realize this is an unpopular take, awaiting butthurt Trekkies in 3...2...1...
NOTE: The Nerdy Flutist's playing was very nice, however. No complaints there.

Wonderful. Tears are rolling down while listening to this beautiful piece. I - like many others I assume ☺️- am a big fan of this episode of TNG, especially the music. I can’t watch the episode or listen to the music without crying. There are only two other pieces of music, both for me are deeply related to the passing of my dad some thirty years ago that have the same instantaneous effect.

Simply stunning performance!!
For me, this is life, melodious and bright symbolizing youth and curiosity, later matures in to struggle and loss, while keeping hints of optimism, then the weight of impending doom, and add it to being able to still feel that life and the scars of the Borg, the truest moment is in Picard when talking to 7 if he regained all of his humanity? The expression? And an affirmative NO, it is life and regardless of the ups and downs there is a beauty in it. Thank you
Wow, you are a great musician in my opinion! I remember the TNG episode, where Picard always is interrupted, while trying to play a flute and also on the planet when he plays a nice litte melody! I didn' t watch Star Trek Picard yet, and the music you play is very very nice! You don't just play the notes, you feel each of them! So music comes to life. OMG - A couple times throughout I needed to remind myself to breathe. I think of all the STTNG episodes, "The Inner Light" to me stands out as one of the most profound story lines in the entire series. there is a complete song i believe, there was a concert in Europe somewhere several years back that did a star trek tribute and they orchestra played the entire song

But something always seemed familiar and kept touching me by heart. Now, listening to your words and play I finally found the reason why the theme was so familiar and touching to me.
Actually I started to learn playing "The Inner Light" on a tin whistle. But still I did not recognise the parts of it in the theme.
