Hey everyone! Something different today. Gonna take a look at Wembys RCs, where they're trending, and what to do with them. I'd love to hear what your planning on doing with yours. Enjoy and have a great weekend!
Yes, I agree with all your points for the most part and really appreciate the insight. I personally plan on holding onto most of mine and I definitely wil focus on purchasing more limited/numbered cards in the future since these will hold the most value.
I pulled two sweet Wemby parallels and while they’ve dropped in value, I pulled them and that’s dope and has lots of value to me. I ain’t selling!!! Appreciate you and the video.
100% Agree! Even if he becomes the next GOAT, his prices won't be what they were at release! Always sell immediately and rebuy 6 months to 1 year later. What app were you using by the way? Cool stuff. Thanks for making this type of video.
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your videos! You're spot on. There is so much baked into rookie prices at and near release that if shorting was a thing, it'd be the way to go. I'm just using market movers for price history.
I pulled the Donruss Elite Mixorama and I've only seen 2 that's ever been sold. I'm curious about the total numbers even printed. Having said that, I'm torn. I'm not really sure what to do with it. If the Spurs do start winning in a few years, will it be one that would be desirable? I don't know. I know some LeBron rookies for 50 and 60k. Will he be that kind of talent? It's hard to know what to do.
Hard to know since Panini keeps everything under lock and key. It'll always be desirable since it's a SSP. The question is what his career ends up being.
Insane numbers of rookie variations. I think the higher end wembys (low #’d, SP) so on and so forth will continue to go up forever but base will become more and more common
I think Wembys career path is one of the more interesting long term story lines in the NBA. I feel like it's not even a consideration he's going to be anything less than an all timer. Wish I had a time machine 😁
Def grade if it looks like a 9 or better. After that your choice. Depends on if you want it in your collection. Cards aren't an investment. Who knows how any rookie turns out? Literally, no one.
Very informative. I am new to the hobby, so this is very useful. I am sitting on a couple that I was going to send for grading, but maybe I missed the right time.
Crazy thing is that his stuff is still pretty high. Seems to be a pattern with new product and then cools off. I’m personally holding a good amount of his stuff and I’m literally grading EVERYTHING I pull. Still a huge market for raw to grade
i only have a few that i plan to grade and hold. nothing big. if I hit anything early from optic thats not grade worthy, ill def sell asap. got $90 for a base Prizm that was OC.
CJ has surprisingly held pretty well but the market hasn't been saturated in the same way. Maybe when Optic get opened more and Select hit it'll have some affect.
Definitely holding for the long term. Not just Wemby, this entire class. My prediction is we will all look back at this draft class 5 years from now and go wow! What a class! There will be second rounders that will evetually turn into good players too. Mark my words.
Always sell base. Hold parallels that are rare. For instance, the mezzanine wemby silver Prizm is retail only. Not the blue version. Als9 Select Courtside silver Prizm is the best non-numbered investment type card.
I'd say a hard no to that. In this day and age, base cards are a dime a dozen once product gets opened. I also dont consider sports cards investments at all. And if they are, they're poor ones.
@@huxbux Wow thank you for the insight, I was going to buy a bunch of PSA 10 Base Victor because I truly believe he is and will be generational talent. Great Video, You definitely got a new subscriber, Cheers!
@benz6323 No problem. To put it into perspective, Luka base Prizm rookies PSA 10, pre playoffs, were selling low to mid $200s. If Luka wins a championship those def stay where they are now at high $200s, low $300. So you're banking on the best case scenario to 2x your money. But I think his base price will continue to fall due to over supply. Another fun fact. There are 20k Luka base PSA 10s. There's already 10k Wembys not even 6 months into the release. Just food for thought. The decision is ultimately yours.
It’s hard for me to find product where I live and the other day I found some Prizm and Select Hangers.. I pulled a base Prizm Wemby and in Select I pulled a Premier Orange Tectonic Wemby and I’m gonna hang on to em for now
Yes, this has been the case since 2017 when the Sportscards Hobby became more popular. Every year Panini, Topps and Upper Deck produced more cards (Additional sets with more Parallels on top of printing more copies.). Only during the pandemic did you prices increase as sets were delayed in production. Going forward it should get worse - massive oversupply from slowing demand. Higher interest rates meant lower demand for collectibles, but the manufacturers continued to print even more products. The economy should improve and inflation should decline eventually - delayed buying could be an Optimal Strategy. Using information of market trends like what you presented here, why not start buying Players in there 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th year or beyond…buy once a Player establishes themselves. Anthony Edwards RCs are cheaper today than his Rookie season. Lots of listings for Ant-man now…this is just one example. Plenty of opportunities everywhere each year in all the Sports. 🏀 🏈⚾️🤓
Or....or....you advise people to be true collectors instead of telling them to "sell sell sell early!!!". Flippers are hobby cancer. The flipper mcdingleberry math: spent 1k, hit a 500 card, sell it, end up w/ no pc card and -500. Then convince yourself you made a "solid business decision". :)
@@huxbux fair enough, flipping wasn't the right term to use. But, the idea behind my post is the same. If you think of this in a financial direction, you're advising people to gamble instead of invest. This is a hobby, it should be about fun first, money last. Telling people to rip for a big card just to sell, is the same thing as telling a gambler to keep feeding a slot machine. And the outcome will always be the same: they'll end up w/ empty pockets, since just like a gambler, a person who hit and sold a big card won't stop and take the money. They'll think they can hit another huge one, rip more product, and get a bunch of Dinwiddie cracked ice parallels. All I'm saying is, promote building collections, not selling to make a few bucks(then losing it anyways).
I think the Spurs are going to the WCF this year (24/25). They shrewdly signed CP3 & Harrison Barnes and they’ll help the Spurs to take a big step forward. I’m a Suns fan so I don’t want this to happen, but it will happen. 😢😅 …I’m buying more Wemby while his cards are still relatively cheap.
Just my 2 cents. If it's gradable, grade it. If it's a card you want in your collection, keep it. If it's not, use it to get something for your collection either trade or sell.
I guess this is only applicable in the US where supply is abundant. But different story here in the Philippines. You see dip in value/prices of course lately but you almost can't see supply especially for high value boxes/cards of Wemby. I agree to sell high, but remember that you can't just buy them back especially if you are living in a 3rd world country like Philippines. More power Huxbux though! Crashing? I dunno.... definitely following normal course of the hobby post season, maybe a LITTLE more caused by supply. There's a lot of em out there...but as next season gets underway, the scramble to buy them again will jump right back up. Enough collectors to carry the number,AS LONG as he starts where he left off on the court.
It's a normal cycle, yes. I haven't looked at the data, but a comparison in price fluctuation between Wemby and other touted rookies within the first 6 months of release would be useful. Maybe I should have done that. 🤔 And the title is a bit of clickbait. 😬

It's like people didn't think Panini wasn't going to print 400000 wemby #d cards. I mean I have seen "some sort" "some kind" Of Wemby and every video I've watched.
If Wemby lives up to his promise and brings the spurs multiple championships and becomes one of the best players in basketball and multiple all star selections, then whoever has held onto the numbered cards and parallels and such will be sitting on a small fortune. So my thinking personally is I am going to store the Wemby’s I have away for the next ten years and see what comes of his future. Long-term investment I am thinking for him.
