  • Ando Hiroshige is one of the most famous Japanese woodblock print artists. But did you know there were 3 Hiroshiges? In this video we’ll track down the stories behind Hiroshige I, II and III. I'll show you a family tree that provides the history and details of the interesting relationships. We’ll also compare their artistic styles through reviewing some of their most famous work. #hiroshige #japaneseart #artists #landscape

Thank you so much! I had gone to a Hiroshege II exhibit at the Dayton Art Institue and felt so dumb for not knowing there was more than one Hiroshege! Your video was so enjoyable to watch and learn about the three Hirosheges and their relative styles. Thank You!

Excellent. Your valuable information enhanced my appreciation of the art. I will direct others to you. I hope you will make additional videos about other Japanese woodblock artists. Thank you

Thanks for the positive feedback. I think my next one will be on a Kunichika series - but that could change.

@@MieGallery I have been checking out shin hanga prints recently. Regarding Hiroshige I, do you only collect lifetime originals? Those are hard to find and pricey if in good condition.

@@masseyandcompanycpa4682 90% of my Hiroshige prints are originals done in his lifetime. If they are reprints I state that in the description. I do have quite a few nice original prints for under $200 on the website.

It seems that H1 had a far superior printer - judging on the three side by side.

Yes, by this time Hiroshige could get the best publisher, cutters and printers. But even by H3's time there were still excellent printers out there, it's just his work didn't rate them I guess.
