- Taisto Miettinen ja Katja Kovanen voittivat Eukonkannon maailmanmestaruuden 2.7.2022 Sonkajärvellä käydyissä MM-kilpailuissa. Miettiselle mestaruus on seitsemäs. MM-hopeaa saivat liettualaiset Vytautas Kirkliauskas ja Neringa Kirkliauskiene, jotka ovat voittaneet kilpailussa kaksi edellistä maailmanmestaruutta. Pronssille ylsivät Ilpo Haalisto ja Jenni Piippo. Eukonkannon maailmanmestaruuksista kilpailtiin Sonkajärvellä jo 25. kertaa. Lauantain pääkisaa oli katsomassa 2500-3000 ihmistä.

Dozens of participants competed in final day of annual Wife Carrying World Championship, in the Finnish town of Sonkajärvi, on Saturday, 2nd July 2022. The participants were seen running while carrying their wives on their back, trying to cross obstacles such as a small pond and tree logs. This year's winners were Taisto Miettinen and Katja Kovanen from Finland, who have won the competition multiple times in the past. Two-time defending champions Vytautas Kirkliauska and Neringa Kirkliauskiene from Lithuania had to settle for silver, while Finnish entrants Ilpo Haalisto and Jenni Piippo earned bronze. The Wife Carrying World Championships have been held annually in Sonkajärvi, Finland, since 1992. After a two-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, there was plenty of support from a crowd numbering between 2,500 and 3,000, but in addition to the obstacle course, the competitors also had to contend with extreme heat.

THE RULES OF WIFE CARRYING
The length of the official track is 253.5 meters and surface of the track is sand. The track has two dry obstacles and one water obstacle, about a meter deep.The wife to be carried may be your own, the neighbor's or you may have found her farther ahead; she must, however, be over 17 years of age. The minimum weight of the wife to be carried is 49 kilos. If she weighs less, she will be burdened with such a heavy rucksack to reach the desired minimum weight.
The only equipment allowed is a belt worn by the carrier. Competitors are not allowed to wear high heels or any other shoes that may cause injuries. Also using tape is forbidden. Competitors' footwear will be checked before the race. If a contestant drops the wife, he has to lift her on to his back or in his arms and continue carrying. All the participants must have fun. The winner is the couple who completes the course in the shortest time. The contestants run the race two at a time, so each heat is a contest in itself.
WIFE CARRYING SENIOR COMPETITION
Rules are the same as above, but the carrier must be 40 years or older.
EUKONKANNON KILPARATA JA SÄÄNNÖT
Virallisen radan pituus on 253,5 metriä ja se on osittain hiekka- ja sorapintainen. Radalla on yksi noin metrin syvyinen vesieste ja kaksi kuivaestettä. Kannettava eukko voi olla oma tai toisen, kuitenkin iältään yli 17-vuotias. Kannettavalla eukolla pitää olla painoa vähintään 49 kg. Jos kannettavan eukon paino on alle 49 kg, niin silloin eukolle laitetaan selkään eukonkantoreppu ja siihen painoja niin, että painoraja täyttyy. Eukon pudottamisesta ei saa sakkoa. Jos kantaja pudottaa eukon, hänen on nostettava eukko välittömästi selkäänsä tai syliinsä. Eukonkannossa ei saa käyttää apuvälineinä reppuja, hihnoja tms. Kilpailijat eivät saa käyttää piikkikorkoja, vaelluskenkiä, jalkapallokenkiä ym. teräviä osia sisältäviä jalkineita. Kenkiä ei saa myöskään teipata kisan ajaksi. Jalkineet tarkastetaan ennen kisaa. Kilpailijoiden on noudatettava järjestäjien antamia ohjeita. Varsinaisessa MM-kilpailussa on vain yksi sarja, ja kilpailun voittaa se pari, joka kiertää radan nopeimmin. Kirjallinen protesti on toimitettava tuomaristolle 15 minuutin kuluessa viimeisen parin saapumisesta maaliin.
EUKONKANNON IKÄMIESTEN SARJA
Eukonkannon ikämiesten sarjassa kantajan on oltava 40-vuotias tai sitä vanhempi. Muuten sarjan säännöt ovat samat kuin MM-kisassa.

What a fun way to spend a vacation. You should give out prizes for the participants that completed the course with the heaviest wife along with a special prize for the husband that weighs the closest to their partner. A camera drone flying ahead of them catching every second of their facial expressions would be a hoot.
There should be a world record Hall of Fame for the winner that won the most beer (heaviest wife) along with their race on video etc.

Me and my brothers carry our sisters piggyback or sitting on our shoulders, like in shallow water or beach. It's fun!
Should be 3. vs 4. for bronze medal and 1. vs 2. for gold medal after qualification round. Would be more exiting climax.
