I loved bible project until I found out Tim Mackee creator of bible project is a homosexual supporting christian. I think gods clear on this. well at least thats what I have deduced from a video I saw of him saying "god does not see gay or straight" does god not have commandments we are to follow. ? of course your probably making lots of money with this christianity. Praise the lord and sell sell sell right. Man its a shame. Money and prestige ruins people. I love grubby and low life, like Jesus and trying to be with the lepers and losers, hookers and drug abusers. Jesus hung out with tax collectors and hookers too. I’m only 16 years old. Last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer, I had let it remain undiagnosed for too long, and while I was in the hospital bed the doctors told my parents that it was terminal, and that I may not have long left. They thought that I was sleeping, but I heard everything. I have never been religious, but I knew then what I had to do. I prayed to Lord Jesus Christ every day and every night for 2 months, repenting for the Sin that Satan had forced unto me and asking The Saviour to help me, at any cost. Then it happened. On one glorious day on one of the routine scans, the doctors were in disbelief as the merciful God had cured me, we all rejoiced at the miracle which had saved me! I still pray every night to the Lord above and thank him for his great kindness. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus!
jociah well I made all of that up to see if any gullible Christians would fall for this “evidence” of God existing. You did. I’m not surprised. I decided to try this after watching a video proclaiming “undeniable evidence of miracles” but there was no evidence to be found, it was all fake. That’s because there is no evidence for any gods because they don’t exist. And some of the excuses that I’ve seen for things such as contradictions in the bible and injustice in the world are just laughable. But you have proven my point that religious people will believe anything so long as it validates their false claims. Thank you.
@@averyplaysguitar If you had a real encounter you wouldn't put the blame for your sin on Satan. Or live your same life, with the only difference doing some praying and thanking Him. You'd be a new creation. That's who the person above me commenting is being happy for your fake story, but also asking what you're doing different now. You see, God isn't about doing cool miracle or giving us the life we want. He gives us new live so that we might live for His glory. And the more we glorify Him, the more satisfied we are. If you want to take another look at Christianity and judge for yourself if it is real or fake, watch a video on TH-cam made by The Last Reformation. Any of the three that are put online.
Leen yes apart from the fact that miracles can not and have never happened this would be a valid argument. If only you used your obvious knowledge on religion to realise that it is not what it seems and that it can corrupt people’s minds.

Taksman Because there is a great deal of historical validity and evidence for God and the Bible throughout many years, and I can bring that up right now, I’m capable of doing so; are you capable of picking out any other religion right now and giving me historical validity and evidence for that? I could run through the ontological, cosmological, teleological arguments or the arguments from morality, history, the life death Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the eyewitness testimony to that, the myriads of intellectual genius's from Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, Faraday, Pascal, Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard , Aquinas, Augustine etc. etc, who all believed in God and took the question to places the average man will never get to much less even understand in this life and still found it better to believe than not. But I would only mention those to show an intellectual defense of the Christian faith that I find satisfies the questions, but I don't think I or anyone else in this life will ever have perfect concrete knowing in this life, that's why they he concept of faith rings true to me. God is a properly basic belief like the belief in the external world around us. God is self evident, like all men created equal is self evident. And at the end of the day the Christian story is the greatest story ever told, and it seems to jive with how I view my place in reality..There is in fact no better explanation for the big questions in life and is demonstrable in the reality of our shared world. I have been an athiest for a long while but then my newborn was born really ill and for the first time every day I prayed so hard and called upon God and any saint who would listen for help. I begged with every cell of my body for help and last week she received the final all clear. She has also had not one delay or growth issue, shes ahead in everything. A couple of months after she was born I was meditating and was in that state of half awake/half asleep and I saw a bright white light and a man standing in it. He called to me and told me was Jesus and that it was my time to join them and find that part of me. When I woke up I felt so incredible and light, im literally crying right now remembering it. I feel like God has done a lot for me this last year and now its time for me to embrace him fully without being afraid of judgement. ❤
@@averyplaysguitar How is it not the most important? The Bible is God's Word. it is His primary way of speaking to us. It contains the answer to every question in life. It teaches, rebukes, and corrects. it is life and it is His living and true Word.

I have been waiting for the Bible project speaker in this video to say the Bible is ''God breathe'' but sadly, he didn't. Only God's children have the ability to know that the Bible is not merely word surface, but it is a hidden treasure (Colossians 1:26: 'the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord's people', His children) and is powerful-- God is actually speaking to us THROUGH HIS WORDS, the bible!
Ayoodyl Seek God and have faith that he exist. Without faith it is impossible to please God. You can’t come to God without wanting to believe he is real and can reach out to you. Start reading the Bible for it is the inspired word of God, start speaking to people who don’t want to just prove God isn’t real. There is evidence everywhere that proves he is real and Jesus was and is the Son of God. Came to earth born of the Spirit of God and the Virgin Mary. @Kyle Isaacson you should read your Bible and extent your knowledge to it's contexts. The times books of the Bible was written are really different from the time we're living right now, it's chaos everywhere. Just 70 years ago human was still doing terrible things nobody could witness, even now we are still often watching it. Now imagine the time more than 2500 years ago. If you know a bit about reading scriptures in islam, the "tafsir" is the important one, not merely the translation. You're not only reading it, but learn it.

Don't lie Kyle. That's not plainly written in the Bible at all. Shame on you if you're making that up to try to make Hannah afraid. If your dad is a pastor, where did he get that idea from? It sounds like he hasn't read the Bible. From how I understand it, Hell is seperation from God. Seperation from love, as God is love. If we reject God, we are rejecting love.
You're right in saying I should read the Bible, I should be reading it more often. God's truth has proved to be extremely beneficial to my life. To my mental, physical and spiritual health. I don't know what the hell after death is like. What it would entail. It is described in metaphor, no? Jesus says both the body and the soul can be killed in hell (Matt 10:28). Did your father love you enough and teach you the loving ways of Christ? Or was he purely a hellfire preacher? I hope that you are not swayed by your own church experience, that you are still open to the idea. That you continue to do more research and prayer to discover the hope that is found in Christ. Who can say what the experience of hell is? No man alive has been there (that I know of). I assumed because you said that "..I'd be tortured by the most evil being in existence" that you believed the common trope that Satan and his devils punish the people who go to hell. The trope that is often found in popular culture. There's no scripture to indicate this. That I know of. Maybe you could refer to scripture if there is.
@Kyle Isaacson Thanks Kyle. The Song of Solomon is full of metaphors, for example. And the Virgin giving birth in Revelation and what happens there seems pretty out-there to not be some form of metaphor. Whether it will be like that literally or not, I do not know. All I know is that God has appeared faithful to me when I have been faithful to God. Had my life transformed for the better, spiritual experiences, etc.

A lotta people seem confused that they're saying that Jesus isn't God or that He's simply a prophet, when that's not the case. They're clearly brothers in Christ and know of our Lord very well, but they're coming through the videos from a nonbelievers point of view in order to give them a more basic and nonoverwhelming explanation of Christianity. I believe it's very effective and that the Lord is making use of The Bible Project universally as He sees fit. Thanks Tim and John, you guys are killin' it! Keep up the good work :)

It’s a synopsis of the Bible in a video form. In order to get the whole gist and meaning of what you want to get from the Bible, you need to read it for yourself. I think that’s a-given :).

@@Persholm1 Yes I have done it couple of times, "different plans" on You version App. And still enjoying the Bible like never before, and every time I read through the Bible the feeling is different, its exciting and I hear the voice of God speak and growing in my faith every day. I love "Chronological reading". Recently I discovered Bible Project while studying the book of Philippians, beautifully done. I'm now doing Bible Project read through... I should be done by July or August latest, by God's grace. I thank God for the opportunity.

When he killed people for doing what he already knew they’d do and in some cases asked them to do? What are your thoughts on the flood? Or do you justify those actions because the children were evil, the people who committed horrible acts on Gods command were just, and God flooded the world because the people he created deserved it? is a good idea to do so but please make sure to correct or explain to them Jesus was not just a prophet. Like the video say a prophet name Jesus. Also explain that these Prophet were writing the Books but God's word.

Mat and Est yes these teachings have set me on a better foundation and changed my life. I wish I had this as a younger person. Most of the concerns listed above I feel would be aired out if they listened to more of the videos. It’s impossible to cover everything in a 6 minute video. My understanding has grown immensely setting me free from so much darkness and self condemnation - no other teacher has influenced me so much as this bible language nerd and I thank God for this gift. Monica Levy Tyler i was also waiting for them to mention the most important aspects of The Bible and how its different than every other book. I've was reading once in the comments, and from what i understood is that the creators take a more informative stance vs a persuasive stance, if that makes sense. So that more people will be willing to learn and hear about The Word of God and not get "offended" or feel their believes threatened
Monica, if you listen to Dr Alducín, you'll hear him say time and time again that he's inspired by the word of God and that everything he says it's stated in the bible and how the bible prophesied the life of Jesus, and how the word of Jesus transformed the world. I don't think you've paid attention to the videos and you really don't know what you're talking about when you say " you guys forgot to emphasize" you exclude yourself from acquiring the knowledge and by misunderstanding Mr Alducin's message you'are isolating yourself deeper into confusion. I invite you to listen to the videos again, this time with a Spanish interpreter to help you understand the message and bring up any questions you have later on, however I can understand your frustration since you don't speak the language and can't understand the gist of Dr Alducin's message.

I don't know if you're a Christian, but we believe that things like the world hunger and the wars happen because of human corruption, because of the human wickedness, we, as Christians, must work actively to help people in need because it's our duty to love others as we love ourselves (Jesus answered, “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' The second most important commandment is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:37, 39-40). However, we also believe that the salvation of the soul is more important than the salvation of the body, because the soul is eternal, but unlike human problems, caused by selfishness, self-centeredness, neglect and human sin, in which human beings can and should interfere, souls are saved by God's mercy, in which He will interfere because it is in the spiritual realm and no human can interfere, the human being can only be used by Him for this purpose, so we pray for the salvation of souls, for this type of content to reach more people, and we pray that God empowers us both to preach His Word and the Gospel as we help our brothers and sisters in Christ in order to reflect His Love and Mercy. God has given us freedom to choose to draw close to Him, to choose a life of Faith, where He will care for and guide us, will fill our hearts with His love and peace that surpasses all understanding, or live in depravity, but this "living in depravity" is what has created such problems as you cite. Even *if* there is a God, and he *can* hear prayers; what's the harm in praying for the examples I mentioned? This is such a great video. I love how the Bible was written over the span of about 1600 years, by 40 (or so) authors in 60 different generations on some of the more difficult topics in life - and yet it is completely without fallacy or contradiction. What an incredible Book!
Tehron, in context, it is true, and Jesus never lies. The bible states that he came to save the world, and in context, that is also true (no Christian cult understands how). However, His specific mission was to Israel, and He left the rest to His authorised representatives after His mission was finished.

They either knew their claims t be true or false. If the claims were false, they gained nothing but suffering and death. If true, suffering and death would mean little to them. Historically, so many Christian witnesses died for their belief, that the Greek word for witness, μαρτυρέω (martureó), became martyr, a person who dies for a cause. No one was ever willing to die for something they knew was a lie.

don't care, the links between each are these: God chose Abraham to be His covenant people, and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob. The line went through Jacob, rather than Esau, who fathered the Muslims, while Jacob fathered the Jews. The Jews also apostatised before Christ was born, so neither perpetuated the covenant. Then the Christians, who initially accepted Christ, apostatised by 300 AD, so none are of the covenant. The Mormons are the covenant people, since Christ restored His church in 1830.

Simply parroting "the Bible is bad" doesn't do anything except demonstrate your own lack of understanding of the texts. You don't even have to be Christian to realise that the scriptures aren't what you seem to think.
I understand to ask what role, if any, the Bible should play when talking about Morality. I personally don't believe that there is ONE guideline which we can and should all adapt. Sure, there might be some solid ground like "don't kill" but even those things are not universal used on this planet. I believe that in almost every matter a society will choose a path in which the society as a whole works out at the end. And since we are there, I also believe that the bible should be seen as a theological book. Not Science. Not Laws.

This video is the best Bible intro explanation I have thus far experienced. I can’t speak for Him, but I believe that the Lord is pleased by your efforts to spread His story.
I appreciate what you all are doing, and I can tell you put a lot of work into this. I commend you for this. I really like a lot of your other videos. With respect, however, I believe you have not fundamentally addressed the question, "What Is The Bible?". The Bible's own witness about itself (and I really want to emphasize that these are the claims that the Bible makes about itself) is that it is the very word of God. To miss this point, this claim of the Bible about itself, in a video entitled "What Is The Bible?" is not a small mistake. Throughout the video you focus on the bible as be a product of various human authors. Certainly human authorship is involved in the creation of the Bible. Those who have a high view of the Bible's authorship do not deny this. Nevertheless, the fact that human authors were used in the writing of this book, does not detract the Bible's own claims about itself. The Bible claims that it is God's word and not merely the words of men. A few passages where the Bible makes this claim about itself are: Exodus 24:4, Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 19:7-11, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:21,1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:20, Hebrews 1:1-3, Ephesians 6:17, 2 Timothy 3:16. At one point in your video state, "The Jewish people believe that through all of these literary works, God speaks to his people." At another point you state, "They also believe that God was speaking to his people through these texts alongside the scriptures of Israel." I'm sorry, but I don't find these statements particularly helpful, because they are both rather unclear. Also, both of these statements tell us only what various people thought about the Bible. They both miss what the Bible says about itself: namely, that it is the word of God. For a video entitled "What is the Bible?" it would be much more helpful for Scripture's own claims about itself to be included. Adam York This is only the first of 14 videos in this series. I'm sure they'll expand on this introduction. These guys are all believers and well educated. They know this stuff. Yeah, they could be more explicit, but they want to reach a non Christian audience. Nothing they've said is false afaik.
I hope you are right. However, I think a big opportunity was missed. This video seems intended to be definitional. It is addressing the question "What IS the Bible?" To ask that question and not to allow what the Bible says about itself to factor into that definition is a gaping omission. Bible Project leaders, would you please consider revising the video so that the claims which the Bible makes about itself (I.E. its claims as to what it IS - the very word/breath of God) can be heard. I am all for addressing historical, literary, and language. I think that is very important. But at the end of the day if the Bible is just a collection of the religious thought of various peoples from the ancient world, then it is essentially no different from the other books whose covers are shown at the beginning of the video.
Perhaps you are hastily jumping to a conclusion based on the first video of a series about the topic? I'll agree with you if after the totality of the series they haven't made clear what the Bible says of itself. That it is God's word.
Daniel Randall He is right ! If the video is called “What is the Bible” the explanation needs to be clear and accurate. At many instances I had to stop and asked myself if this was the complete truth. You can make yes a detailed version or a short version of what is the bible and explain it accurately while dividing it into 3 or 4 videos but each one of these videos need to be scriptural. (For example) When they only called him a prophet I cringed. He is The prophet of all prophets, but he is called the Son of God ! This tittle “ The Son of God, the messiah” includes him being a prophet but calling him a prophet (only) doesn’t include him being the Son of God! and yes he was killed but why not specify that he chose to give his life for our sins and that he resurrected the third day, he is alive and that he is coming back to take his church ?! And that’s the fondamental truth we believe, what the apostles believed ! That’s why they were preaching the Gospel, that’s why they didn’t stop even if their lives were in danger ! Some of the Jews today that follow the Torah only and musulmans agree that Jesus is a prophet now if we only call him a prophet how do we make the difference ? We need to understand that what we say or share has a huge impact. Maybe a person who is not a believer saw this video only and got out of it that Jesus is prophet, that’s what Christian say! How do you correct that if this person is miles away from you? Yes their might be other videos but this one, might the only video that a person might watch.

You know, he can be both. Kings (such as Saul and David) are often called prophet and seen doing prophetic stuff. Also, Jesus is called a prophet in many places in the New Testament. And many people believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of Deuteronomy 18, where Moses says that God will raise up a new prophet like him. Indeed, there is a 500 year tradition of speaking of Jesus as the Prophet, Priest, and King. So, I don't think Jon and Tim are trying to deny that Jesus is the king. They clearly say that in other videos.

I’m only 16 years old. Last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer, I had let it remain undiagnosed for too long, and while I was in the hospital bed the doctors told my parents that it was terminal, and that I may not have long left. They thought that I was sleeping, but I heard everything. I have never been religious, but I knew then what I had to do. I prayed to Lord Jesus Christ every day and every night for 2 months, repenting for the Sin that Satan had forced unto me and asking The Saviour to help me, at any cost. Then it happened. On one glorious day on one of the routine scans, the doctors were in disbelief as the merciful God had cured me, we all rejoiced at the miracle which had saved me! I still pray every night to the Lord above and thank him for his great kindness. Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus!

jociah well I made all of that up to see if any gullible Christians would fall for this “evidence” of God existing. You did. I’m not surprised. I decided to try this after watching a video proclaiming “undeniable evidence of miracles” but there was no evidence to be found, it was all fake. That’s because there is no evidence for any gods because they don’t exist. And some of the excuses that I’ve seen for things such as contradictions in the bible and injustice in the world are just laughable. But you have proven my point that religious people will believe anything so long as it validates their false claims. Thank you.

You see, God isn't about doing cool miracle or giving us the life we want. He gives us new live so that we might live for His glory. And the more we glorify Him, the more satisfied we are. Taksman Because there is a great deal of historical validity and evidence for God and the Bible throughout many years, and I can bring that up right now, I’m capable of doing so; are you capable of picking out any other religion right now and giving me historical validity and evidence for that? I could run through the ontological, cosmological, teleological arguments or the arguments from morality, history, the life death Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the eyewitness testimony to that, the myriads of intellectual genius's from Galileo, Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, Faraday, Pascal, Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard , Aquinas, Augustine etc. etc, who all believed in God and took the question to places the average man will never get to much less even understand in this life and still found it better to believe than not. But I would only mention those to show an intellectual defense of the Christian faith that I find satisfies the questions, but I don't think I or anyone else in this life will ever have perfect concrete knowing in this life, that's why they he concept of faith rings true to me. God is a properly basic belief like the belief in the external world around us. God is self evident, like all men created equal is self evident. And at the end of the day the Christian story is the greatest story ever told, and it seems to jive with how I view my place in reality..There is in fact no better explanation for the big questions in life and is demonstrable in the reality of our shared world.

I have been an athiest for a long while but then my newborn was born really ill and for the first time every day I prayed so hard and called upon God and any saint who would listen for help. I begged with every cell of my body for help and last week she received the final all clear. She has also had not one delay or growth issue, shes ahead in everything.
A couple of months after she was born I was meditating and was in that state of half awake/half asleep and I saw a bright white light and a man standing in it. He called to me and told me was Jesus and that it was my time to join them and find that part of me. When I woke up I felt so incredible and light, im literally crying right now remembering it.
I feel like God has done a lot for me this last year and now its time for me to embrace him fully without being afraid of judgement. ❤

Yes, 2 Timothy 3:16: 'All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness'. I have been waiting for the Bible project speaker in this video to say the Bible is ''God breathe'' but sadly, he didn't. Ayoodyl Seek God and have faith that he exist. Without faith it is impossible to please God. You can’t come to God without wanting to believe he is real and can reach out to you. Start reading the Bible for it is the inspired word of God, start speaking to people who don’t want to just prove God isn’t real. There is evidence everywhere that proves he is real and Jesus was and is the Son of God. Came to earth born of the Spirit of God and the Virgin Mary. The times books of the Bible was written are really different from the time we're living right now, it's chaos everywhere. Just 70 years ago human was still doing terrible things nobody could witness, even now we are still often watching it. Now imagine the time more than 2500 years ago. If you know a bit about reading scriptures in islam, the "tafsir" is the important one, not merely the translation. You're not only reading it, but learn it.

Whether it will be like that literally or not, I do not know. All I know is that God has appeared faithful to me when I have been faithful to God. Had my life transformed for the better, spiritual experiences, etc.

A lotta people seem confused that they're saying that Jesus isn't God or that He's simply a prophet, when that's not the case. They're clearly brothers in Christ and know of our Lord very well, but they're coming through the videos from a nonbelievers point of view in order to give them a more basic and nonoverwhelming explanation of Christianity. I believe it's very effective and that the Lord is making use of The Bible Project universally as He sees fit. Thanks Tim and John, you guys are killin' it! Keep up the good work :)

Monica, if you listen to Dr Alducín, you'll hear him say time and time again that he's inspired by the word of God and that everything he says it's stated in the bible and how the bible prophesied the life of Jesus, and how the word of Jesus transformed the world. I don't think you've paid attention to the videos and you really don't know what you're talking about when you say " you guys forgot to emphasize" you exclude yourself from acquiring the knowledge and by misunderstanding Mr Alducin's message you'are isolating yourself deeper into confusion. I invite you to listen to the videos again, this time with a Spanish interpreter to help you understand the message and bring up any questions you have later on, however I can understand your frustration since you don't speak the language and can't understand the gist of Dr Alducin's message.

I don't know if you're a Christian, but we believe that things like the world hunger and the wars happen because of human corruption, because of the human wickedness, we, as Christians, must work actively to help people in need because it's our duty to love others as we love ourselves (Jesus answered, “'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' The second most important commandment is like it: 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.” - Matthew 22:37, 39-40). This is such a great video. I love how the Bible was written over the span of about 1600 years, by 40 (or so) authors in 60 different generations on some of the more difficult topics in life - and yet it is completely without fallacy or contradiction. What an incredible Book!

Tehron, in context, it is true, and Jesus never lies. The bible states that he came to save the world, and in context, that is also true (no Christian cult understands how). However, His specific mission was to Israel, and He left the rest to His authorised representatives after His mission was finished.

They either knew their claims t be true or false. If the claims were false, they gained nothing but suffering and death. If true, suffering and death would mean little to them. Historically, so many Christian witnesses died for their belief, that the Greek word for witness, μαρτυρέω (martureó), became martyr, a person who dies for a cause. No one was ever willing to die for something they knew was a lie.

I'm a muslim..yet I love this series ... it's interesting to learn about other religion and I find it amazing that we both (and the jews) have similar stories ... though it aint surprising much since Judaism,Christian and Islam are basically sisters ...or Abrahamic religion

don't care, the links between each are these: God chose Abraham to be His covenant people, and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob. The line went through Jacob, rather than Esau, who fathered the Muslims, while Jacob fathered the Jews. The Jews also apostatised before Christ was born, so neither perpetuated the covenant. Then the Christians, who initially accepted Christ, apostatised by 300 AD, so none are of the covenant. The Mormons are the covenant people, since Christ restored His church in 1830.

You've been lurking on these videos for a while now. What are you hoping to achieve exactly? Simply parroting "the Bible is bad" doesn't do anything except demonstrate your own lack of understanding of the texts. You don't even have to be Christian to realise that the scriptures aren't what you seem to think.
I understand to ask what role, if any, the Bible should play when talking about Morality. I personally don't believe that there is ONE guideline which we can and should all adapt. Sure, there might be some solid ground like "don't kill" but even those things are not universal used on this planet. I believe that in almost every matter a society will choose a path in which the society as a whole works out at the end.
And since we are there, I also believe that the bible should be seen as a theological book. Not Science. Not Laws.

The Bible is the most important book ever it’s also God’s word.
I appreciate what you all are doing, and I can tell you put a lot of work into this. I commend you for this. I really like a lot of your other videos. With respect, however, I believe you have not fundamentally addressed the question, "What Is The Bible?". The Bible's own witness about itself (and I really want to emphasize that these are the claims that the Bible makes about itself) is that it is the very word of God. To miss this point, this claim of the Bible about itself, in a video entitled "What Is The Bible?" is not a small mistake. Throughout the video you focus on the bible as be a product of various human authors. Certainly human authorship is involved in the creation of the Bible. Those who have a high view of the Bible's authorship do not deny this. Nevertheless, the fact that human authors were used in the writing of this book, does not detract the Bible's own claims about itself. The Bible claims that it is God's word and not merely the words of men. A few passages where the Bible makes this claim about itself are: Exodus 24:4, Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 19:7-11, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:21,1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:20, Hebrews 1:1-3, Ephesians 6:17, 2 Timothy 3:16. At one point in your video state, "The Jewish people believe that through all of these literary works, God speaks to his people." At another point you state, "They also believe that God was speaking to his people through these texts alongside the scriptures of Israel." I'm sorry, but I don't find these statements particularly helpful, because they are both rather unclear. Also, both of these statements tell us only what various people thought about the Bible. They both miss what the Bible says about itself: namely, that it is the word of God. For a video entitled "What is the Bible?" it would be much more helpful for Scripture's own claims about itself to be included. This is only the first of 14 videos in this series. I'm sure they'll expand on this introduction. These guys are all believers and well educated. They know this stuff. Yeah, they could be more explicit, but they want to reach a non Christian audience. Nothing they've said is false afaik.
I hope you are right. However, I think a big opportunity was missed. This video seems intended to be definitional. It is addressing the question "What IS the Bible?" To ask that question and not to allow what the Bible says about itself to factor into that definition is a gaping omission. Bible Project leaders, would you please consider revising the video so that the claims which the Bible makes about itself (I.E. its claims as to what it IS - the very word/breath of God) can be heard. I am all for addressing historical, literary, and language. I think that is very important. But at the end of the day if the Bible is just a collection of the religious thought of various peoples from the ancient world, then it is essentially no different from the other books whose covers are shown at the beginning of the video.
Perhaps you are hastily jumping to a conclusion based on the first video of a series about the topic? I'll agree with you if after the totality of the series they haven't made clear what the Bible says of itself. That it is God's word.
Daniel Randall He is right ! If the video is called “What is the Bible” the explanation needs to be clear and accurate. At many instances I had to stop and asked myself if this was the complete truth. You can make yes a detailed version or a short version of what is the bible and explain it accurately while dividing it into 3 or 4 videos but each one of these videos need to be scriptural. (For example) When they only called him a prophet I cringed. He is The prophet of all prophets, but he is called the Son of God ! This tittle “ The Son of God, the messiah” includes him being a prophet but calling him a prophet (only) doesn’t include him being the Son of God! and yes he was killed but why not specify that he chose to give his life for our sins and that he resurrected the third day, he is alive and that he is coming back to take his church ?! And that’s the fondamental truth we believe, what the apostles believed ! That’s why they were preaching the Gospel, that’s why they didn’t stop even if their lives were in danger ! Some of the Jews today that follow the Torah only and musulmans agree that Jesus is a prophet now if we only call him a prophet how do we make the difference ? We need to understand that what we say or share has a huge impact. Maybe a person who is not a believer saw this video only and got out of it that Jesus is prophet, that’s what Christian say! How do you correct that if this person is miles away from you? Yes their might be other videos but this one, might the only video that a person might watch.

Jesus is not a prophet. He is the King that the prophets talked about.
You know, he can be both. Kings (such as Saul and David) are often called prophet and seen doing prophetic stuff. Also, Jesus is called a prophet in many places in the New Testament. And many people believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of Deuteronomy 18, where Moses says that God will raise up a new prophet like him. Indeed, there is a 500 year tradition of speaking of Jesus as the Prophet, Priest, and King. So, I don't think Jon and Tim are trying to deny that Jesus is the king. They clearly say that in other videos.
