Kodak Pro Image 100 Review | The BEST 35mm for Warm Climates

  • Pro Image is an incredibly interesting film stock. But because of its name and branding, it comes with some scrutiny right out of the box. The use of the word “Pro” - and it being labelled as a Kodak Professional film on the box - whilst not being promoted as a professional film stock by Kodak themselves is confusing. In their professional brochures, it’s nowhere to be found. And Half the reviews you can find here online say it’s professional and the other half call it a consumer film.

      Thanks 😊 I agree, it’s a bummer that the colours from the studio shots aren’t quite the same - I feel like it’d be okay with strobe lighting though, I’ll have to try it the next time I access to a studio. Have you shot Pro Image that much yourself?

    Nice to see Pro image getting some love.
    It's become my most used film this year.
    I like all the other budget friendly colour negative films I have tried but pro image is the most versatile I in my opinion

    Yeah I have a roll of Kodak Pro Image professional and the role of Kodak color plus and 5 pack of PORTRA 400 iso professional .. I think it's all play with words , the only Film that's a professional film is Kodak PORTRA , but it does depend on the camera using , how you take the picture , the aperture and the lens your using , and if the light meter is working properly

    Cool video, Danilo! I personally love this film, and it was quite (and I mean quite) popular down here in Brazil in the mid-2000s. It was ubiquitous and cheap, and at the same time it looked much better than the regular Kodak consumer negatives of the time. I really miss finding film easily at every corner.

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow really! Good to know - I'll have to ask my family if they shot much with this much. Whereabouts in Brasil was this?

    • @zenitpro
      @zenitpro 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaniloAllen Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. But I believe it was pretty common in the other states of the southeastern region of Brazil too. The price of this negative has just become too high around here. Such a shame.

    awesome video, thank you for the content. I agree, its all about the image, forget the film snobbery. some reviewers have mentioned that pro image tends to render cooler toness and the blues and greens tend to render kind of like fuji, which is contrary to kodak's reputation of having warm reds, was this consistent with your experience?

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I found that it’s not as aggressively warm as other Kodak stocks. The greens and blues can look more like Fuji when it’s overcast but generally it’s still got a very Kodak look to it.
      I made a video on my 2nd channel where I shot another roll - I don’t discuss the colour but you can judge for yourself if you’d like: th-cam.com/video/LeyKzFSPEB8/w-d-xo.html

    I like your video. It really brings the ProImage 100 to the point. ProImage 100 is between Ektar 100 and Portra 160/400. However, I can provide another information. The ProImage 100 is according to Wikipedia an ISO160 film! I can provide with the link, if you like. And it is for sure, a consumer film, not at all a professional one.

    I've got a roll of Pro Image sitting in my fridge and I'm sorely tempted to save it for some late autumn shooting here in NZ...apparently is doesn't love our harsh, lack-of-ozone light...regardless, I'm super excited to try it out!

    So you went with over exposing 1/3 a stop. I'm about half way through a roll so might try the rest on abit over exposed. My understanding was it wasn't crazy with dynamic range and the "pro" films generally have more dynamic range. Also what are you metering for in the pictures, skin?

    • @DaniloAllen
      @DaniloAllen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I typically meter for skin in portraits and global exposure for scenes. From my understanding colour negative generally has great over exposure latitude - with the "pro" films having even better latitude. How did the rest of your roll go?

    Professional film has nothing to do with what you have said. They are made to much tighter tolerances in terms of sensitivity and colour balance. They are designed to be stored under refridgeration to minimise any colour or sensitivity shifts that may occur and are designed to be used in a shorter period of time, shorter shelf life. If a professional was having a shoot which used, say 20 rolls of film, they needed consistency in all of their prints. In the darkroom days, they do not want the task of trying to adjust colour filtration to match colours. By contrast, consumer film are not made to such high tolerances. Most consumers would have typically bought one roll of film and may or may not have shot that whole roll in one session. That film may have stayed in their camera for months or longer. These films can be stored at room temperature.

    Wow! A a whole two minutes of you in the video before we get to the point?
    I would sure love to see a review video where the product that is under review is the actual star of the video. We know who you are so stop promoting yourself and give the product a more video time.
    I tire of these 'Look at Me, I'm on TH-cam!' videos when I desire honest review of a product.
