Starting the BMW R1200c After Replacing Spark Plugs and Air Intake Hoses

  • I took the advice of the people I met in the online BMW forums and made some changes. I replaced the spark plugs, changed the rubber air hoses on the intake system, and gave it a go.
It did not go well the first time.
However, this whole experience is not about buying a new motorcycle that works perfectly. It's about learning to be more mechanical. After a few deep breaths, I was able to go through all the things that could still be an issue. I've now got a running working BMW R1200c. Well, the engine anyway. Still other stuff to fix.

Yes, the smoke on the left cylinder is normal and will clear up when riding. When the bike sits on the kickstand oil migrates into that cylinder.

I'm having this EXACT same issue with my 2001. I've removed and re-installed the air intake tubes and rubber a few times and thought I had all the fittings properly aligned and clamps where I think they're supposed to be and have had a couple of blow-outs, which tells me I have to keep at it.

The clamps not being flush was the biggest issue. It took about 2 or 3 times on each clamp and then starting it up to hear if it was right. Be careful how you position the clamp as it will affect the fit of the side pieces when you put them back on

I went down to the local hardware store and got an off the shelf radiator hose. I cut it to length with a hand saw
