  • When motors are spinning and the car isn’t moving you gotta get a bigger motor right??? 😄

    So glad this project is coming together. I hope it is just a matter of a small adjustment and you are ready to rip! Nice work!

      Thanks dude 😊 lots & lots of adjustments to make but the overall layout seems like it could work at least

    Cool project man! I'd suggest (if you haven't already) setting that front end up so it has more like 5-10 degrees of front kick up... That 30 degrees can't be working so hot, I'd imagine... no offense at all meant btw... I LOVE it!!

      Hey thanks man none taken! I honestly don’t know any better - would the 30 deg kick up be a problem with the 4WD specifically or with the car in general?? Early on this mod would have been a lot easier for me to pull off if the chassis were nice & flat to be sure 😄

    Nice! She drives beautifully, just lacking speed. I’m sure you could get some descent power from this setup once you address the “slipping” issue. 👍

    Well it's interesting, but you'll have to tighten up the slipper clutch quite a bit. The improved steering is due to the powered front wheels, which have basically deleted any understeer, and the slow speed is due to all the extra drag from the belt, pulleys, bearings etc. Was that even a 'fast' motor to begin with? Plus you'll be getting more drag as it looks like you have some "toe out" on the front wheels. You really need to have the fronts parallel to begin with, then start adjusting. But yes, a more powerful motor is obviously going to help, and maybe you'll have to tighten the slipper even more (it might break).
    Like I said though, it's interesting. 🤓👍

      You’re right there was a lot needing dialing in when I ran the car on this day for sure - things eventually got a little better but if I’m honest the geometry up front is still a little jacked 😄

    Looking good. I don't think its the pinion though tension on the tranny belt looks to loose. Very impressive. Question why didn't you try the old MIP configuration?

    • @wadeskelton7585
      @wadeskelton7585  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Well I’m not sure yet what’s going on but I suspect the top pulley that is in the same shaft as the spur gear might be slipping. You’re right about the long belt tension being very loose but that probably wouldn’t stop it from driving since it only goes from rear diff to front diff you know what I mean? If it were that one slipping I’d still have a 2WD car and I had a 0WD car 😂
      Good question btw - I must admit I didn’t do a ton of looking but it seems those original MIP kits are very very rare and thusly very very expensive - my main intention for this project was to come up with a more affordable & available option - that said to date I have neither 😄
      I’ll keep at it man thanks for watching 👍👍

      @@wadeskelton7585 I was going to try the same thing with my rc10 a few years back and while researching a found out some guy scanned and replicated all the plastic MIP parts but swapped out the drivetrain parts for modern stuff. I believe I saw the gearboxes on shapways.

    • @wadeskelton7585

      @@denozed6554 yeah I found several dead ends myself - seemed like several people had come up with ways to do it but then they’d go quiet or there’d be no way to get (enter obscure part number here) and that’d be that - I just figured there’s no way the converted cars would be selling for $3~5k if there were a reasonable way to do this yourself - we’ll see what happens I think I mainly just need the diff & pulley parts to be machined & it’ll be strong enough to be reliable. Unfortunately it’ll never be cheap I’m afraid…

    • @wadeskelton7585
      @wadeskelton7585  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lee good question man. You might not be able to tell in this particular video but there’s a Kyosho “clutch” pinion unit on the motor and it’s just way too big for the original cover - if I ever finish this project I will definitely go back to a regular pinion and get that cover back on 👍👍

    I suspected that it is the battery problem.

    • @wadeskelton7585
      @wadeskelton7585  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well no doubt, that battery isn’t great but the fact that the spur gear was spinning while the car wasn’t moving might be an even bigger problem 😁
      I’ve ordered a bunch of new internals that should hold up better - it’ll be several weeks but I’ll give this another try ASAP 👍
