You may have changed my life with this video (okay, maybe not my life;). I’ve been making RPE’s for years and have struggled. There are a few tips you gave that will help me so much. I just always did it the way I was taught and never used any critical thinking skills!
You got a Hydroflux Welder?! I miss mine! Even though the flame is smaller than a blazer torch, you have to lake sure the screw and any wax are completely covered with the heatshield. any opening for the flame to get in there will melt the wax instantly. An alternative to wax, is Mortite, it window caultking you can find on amazon or Home Depot.
I rarely use the three prongs when bending RPE arms. They leave heavy knicks in the arms and leads to more time on rubber wheel when polishing after soldering. Beautiful work my friend!
The stuff I put on the model before I started soldering is heat shield ( the gray stuff) I use it to protect the wires and the screw from the heat of the torch If your wondering what the white stuff is is is flux it is uses to assist the solder to flow smoothly while melting. Otherwise it would just form a ball when melted and wouldn't flow around the wires. It also protects the wires from overheating while soldering.
I believe its a monoject syringe. Im thinking you can find it at your local pharmacy, but I also found them on amazon: smile.amazon.com/Kendall-Healthcare-1412012-Monoject-Syringe/dp/B00J9PB678/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1475639101&sr=8-1&keywords=monojet+syringes
I’m new to making RPEs and I need help! What exactly do I need to order to smooth the appliance after it is fabricated? Is the torch just standard with butane? Thanks you! The more tips the better!
Here is a video I made using only a hand piece to finish RPEs, currently, I use an acrylic bur to smooth the solder, then I just pumice and High shine the metal: th-cam.com/video/UkQGUveX2RE/w-d-xo.html The torch is a Hydroflux Welder is used water as its fuel source (Specifically the hydrogen the water) This is the exact unit: hydrofluxwelder.com/
@@RetainerDesigner want to order retainer my ideas is I will send my teeth mould to get my palatal expander at a reasonable price I need it Tell me if you can make it out
Here in the us we us a different system to measure the thickness of the wire. The wire I used for the lingual arms of an RPE is .036" (I used and online converter and got .91mm)
Hey there. Thanks for the video. I'm just wondering if I were to ship you a mould of my teeth, would you create a basic expander for me and ship it back? I would pay you of course!

I bought the special tool. Love it. Used a wax index and made a huge mess soldering. Please discuss ideal settings for tac welding

Agreed, Sometimes when I see knocks appear, I will take a bit of sandpaper and some out the prongs, always helps
You made my ortho more Strong..
This is great, I learnt a lot.

Thats great idea that you have the heatproof stuff from syringe!!
Where I can get those from?
Thanks so much for the video!!

Where can I get the heat schield?
I would appreciate it if you could see the process of making ALF appliance or Crozat appliance. Also, the wire heat treatment methods and processes. 😊
That's a great idea for a video concept! I haven't made these much, but I might try to make one and film it, should be funny!
thanks for the video really inspire me
Glad to hear that!

hi! what cement do we use in cementation in the real patient??
Great video. Thanks a lot. What is the name of that "arm bending device" (as you call it)?
it is actually called "Arm Bending Instrument for Rapid Expander" I get it from here: www.greatlakesortho.com/commerce/detail/?nPID=793

Hi, in the video I can't understand how many mm is the wire that you use for bending the lingual arms. Is it 1 mm or more please?

Can you make a video on how to bend a TPA..pleeease!
No problem!

What kind of material is the thin wire that do you use to solder the RPE at 16:22 of the video?
That is .032 Silver Solder 9it is 56% silver, Cadmium Free)
I need it for my teeth!

Waste of wire with the handle lol I just use wax to hold where I'm not going to solder
Thats true! but i find its easier to wax into place if I can hold the wire in place with a handle :)
