Brandon Williams Me too, and as far as I’m concerned, Bowling will never be the same again without Schenkel and Bo Burton commentating.

This was the great age of bowling that followed the hard rubber days and preceded the “hook in a box” reactive resin era. Good amateur scratch bowlers carried max 3 balls, one being a plastic spare ball. Scoring conditions varied, but accuracy and spares were vital, as you didn’t have eight baggers every other game.
Watch McCordic here. He is using a urethane ball, not throwing a big hook, but hitting his mark over and over. He had the carry because he was just stuffing the pocket with authority. It is nice to note also that in the dwindling world of bowling, Gable House is still around.
Being local, we would hang around there during the week of the PBA. One time I saw Brian Voss coming down the stairs and asked if anyone wanted a ball. I jumped at it, a purple AMF Angle that I had plugged and redrilled for me. A lot of us kids in the late 80’s were decent 190 avg bowlers but good equipment was expensive and we scrounged what we could find. I had two sanctioned 300 games and both were with second hand equipment. I don’t even bowl anymore, but I still love the sport.

I was lucky enough to bowl against Pete & Ernie Schlegel in South Africa back in '95. I rolled a 300 to qualify for the "team". An honour.

The Schenkel curse ended here. Chris was somewhere else for the first three TV perfect games.

Nice to see all the pin action instead of the sweep coming down before the ball is off the end of the lane.

I've bowled 1 300 game, and I had my brother and his friends talking shit, needless to say , my brother has never bowled 1. I don't talk to him. His jealousy is a sickness. I still have my patch. Steve Cook's Fireside Lanes in Citrus Heights. 😎
