  • Microscopic footage of white blood cells and bacteria from my throat during an infection.
I deduced I had Group-C streptococcus laryngitis based on the following criteria:
*Contact with someone who had a strep infection
*Sore throat and difficulty speaking, infection lasted about a week
*I had gray spots on my tongue although none on my tonsils
*Gram positive streptococcus isolated from the white spots on my tongue
*Streptococcus was beta-hemolytic and resistant to bacitracin and Sulfamethoxazole / Trimethoprim
My education is not in medicine so I could be wrong.
    Camera - Nikon D3300
    Microscope - Leica ATC 2000
Microscope magnification of each shot is shown in the bottom right hand corner.

Videos like this help dispel the myths surrounding common illnesses that many *anti-establishment* folks like to spread (because of insecurities or just gullibility). My dad swears a cold or strep is caused by cold air, the actual temperature of the air (he's very conservative, only high school educated, and has never taken biology or virology nor has he ever used a microscope in HS). When we went to the doctor, a swab was taken and incubated and a few hours later we were informed it was strep. The doctor explained that it was a bacteria that was living in his throat and feeding on nutrients from his nasal and oral cavity causing his secretions to smell and his throat to be painful. He still was not convinced. When we got home, I found this video and showed him what strep looks like under the microscope. He could not believe his eyes! He said he couldn't see the bacteria so he never thought to frequently wash his hands or wear a mask when presenting symptoms so he rationalized that the cold air, wind, and rain caused it. Now he wants to buy a microscope and look at the invisible world he never realized existed. Thank you for this video! 🙏

@Max Powers Hahaha. I said something similar to him but that's the generation he grew up in -- it's hard to get people to see a new perspective as technology changes and becomes more readily available to everyday folks. Digital tech and Bluetooth is like magic to people born in the 40s and 50s, so you can imagine that they'd have a difficult time believing that viruses and bacteria are all around us and not something made up by doctors or scientists to scare people.

    • @coenbaan1874
      @coenbaan1874 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Still, i thought cold air/environment gives the average cold bacteria in your body a better chance of spreading. So even though his info may be old fashioned and incomplete there is some truth to it

I'm no scientist, but I know there are nematodes existing in the roots of the eyebrow hairs, munching away to keep the area clean. If they didn't, we'd get infections there. I remember learning from a really interesting PBS program that the aforementioned nematodes continue "eating" for some time after each body dies. I imagine the sounds of very, very tiny forks and knives on the china plates.🍽

Gram-positive bacteria (like Streptococcus pyogenes) have glycoprotein lining (where the staining dye sticks and makes it distinct), unlike Gram-negative bacteria, and it is harder for the leukocytes to phagocytose and its lysozymes to penetrate the bacteria.

this is absolutely amazing. I remember the last time I had a strep throat, I applied something to help eradicate it. A few minutes after I applied it, I could actually feel the inflammation caused by the bacteria moving around my throat, circling around while time passed. This made me realize that there are actual living creatures in my throat and that my body is fighting hard to make me healthy, and that what I applied actually worked because it did numb the area it was applied on 😅

I'm recovering from acute bronchitis. Some tips for recovering. Change diet ASAP. Cut out sugar and chocolate and dairy products. Eating fruit helps a fair bit. Salt is fine, it helps break down mucus. Pepper too. Garlic is good for your health. Beyond that it's drinking a lot of water to try and flush out the mucus. Going out in the day for a bit to get some air can help too (but stay in and stay warm to recover).
I kept getting up to cough up in the toilet. In the end I had toilet roll next to the bed. Tear off some tissue and cough up on that. Leave at the side. This way I could check the color as well. Mostly clear, some yellow. A bit of brown very rarely (twice in about two weeks. Only two "strings" of it) and one tiny speck of blood (once). I coughed up the worst of it and started getting better quickly after. Haven't so much as had a cold in a decade so my immune system is pretty good. Actually exposing yourself to some dirt helps to keep it healthy (in other words if you're too clean you can get sick more easily).
The most important factors are staying warm, drinking water and eating/resting enough. How MUCH of what you eat is more important then just what you eat alone. Example: Some butter (the I can't believe it's not butter kind) in mash potato can help more. Add chooped up onion and garlic with gravy and chicken. Salt and pepper too. Overall it will help to fight the infection despite having some butter. Provided the rest of your diet is cutting down on it.
