Recomending a 4k 27" monitor is wrong imho, with macOS scaling, everything looks super fuzzy for non-integer scaling. Either 2k or 5k for 27" mac monitors. The Studio Display being the better option, worth it in the long run, even if it seems expensive at first
Yes, that is true. That is why I think I will go for the 4k 32inch screen since the studio display is glossy & I do not need the studio display speakers and webcam (already have them). The Studio Display only makes sense if you add AppleCare. 1 year warranty on this expensive monitor is a bit risky)
@@BombDaBass2000 I used to have a 4k 32inch (LG Ultrafine) and upgraded to the Apple monitor -> It is honestly worth it if you can stem it. The higher brightness and PPI alone make it worth it. Zero eye-strain and brightness adjustment via keyboard, plus even the glossy ones have an anti-reflective coating (unlike the 5k Ultrafine)
Can I use my 2020 iMac 27" 5K Intel iMac as a display for a new Mac mini? An A.I. Google search says you can, by connecting with Thunderbolt. Do you know if this is possible? My iMac has problems, but the display seems fine. It would save me $1700 on a Mac Studio Display if it will work with no problems. My iMac has been having kernel panic issues, where when I shut it down, it will restart with a kernel panic message "your iMac had a problem that caused it to restart". I'm not sure if this issue would cause me problems if I'm using the iMac as a display. If using an iMac for a display, is the fan running, and all the computer electronics, or is that all off and only the display lights up? Thanks for any insight.
You can’t use your 2020 iMac 27" 5K as a display for a Mac mini via Thunderbolt, as Apple removed the Target Display Mode feature after 2014. While third-party apps like Luna Display or Duet Display can turn your iMac into a display, performance may be limited, and your iMac's kernel panic issue could interfere, making it unreliable. If you use your iMac this way, its internal hardware (including the fan) would still be active, not just the display. For a more reliable setup, consider a dedicated external monitor instead.
You can gut the iMac , keep the display, buy a board from sketchy people in China for around $200, and do this. You've probably already found this, but here is someone who did just that th-cam.com/video/0VXQu0fAc8s/w-d-xo.html. And you can sell the innards of your old iMac to help defray the cost of the conversion! What keeps me from doing this? Well, my 2017 iMac still works and is getting security updates. Do I want to do this conversion, maybe screw it up maybe introduce malware from the China board, and maybe have it all go south in a second after I get it working? So far the answer for me is no, not yet., anyway. But maybe.
Can you have a 2nd monitor? If so, what types? Can an old LG thunderbolt 2/Display port type monitor connect and work or is that too obsolete at this point? Thanks.
Can anyone recommend AR/VR glasses that are suitable for replacing a monitor and works with the mini? Intended use is mainly work apps, so no need for high definition movie quality. 😀
If you're looking for AR/VR glasses to replace a monitor for work apps, here are a few options: Vuzix Blade 2 - Lightweight AR glasses, great for productivity. Nreal Air - Offers a large virtual screen for work apps, connects via USB-C. Apple Vision Pro - High-end, immersive experience for work. Oculus Quest 3 - Use for a virtual desktop setup with apps like Virtual Desktop. MicroOLED Smart Glasses - Compact, virtual screen for basic tasks. For light work, Nreal Air or Vuzix Blade 2 would be great choices!

Current studio display is coming to 3 years old - no thunderbolt 5 display with pro motion yet? They should have launched the new Mac mini when the new generation thunderbolt 5 displays were ready….
Exactly. Hard to justify a 3 years old display especially when its lcd 60hz??? All my screens are oled 120hz. Hard to pull the trigger for the apple studio display but i don’t see any other options beside waiting probably over a year for an updated apple display
For photo editing on a Mac mini M4 in the $600-800 range, check out the LG UltraFine 27UN850-W (4K, great color accuracy) or the BenQ PD2700U (4K, 100% sRGB). Both offer excellent performance for creative work!
