I don't know that I agree with his example of buying a house in SF, though. SF is at the peak of a housing cost-crisis. The $3M figure is used to be emotional. It would be more like living in Kentucky now, and making $120k/yr (joint income, which is the current employment mode). Which is very much within reach to many people.
