They both go from end to end inside the hotel zone.
Once they enter downtown R1 turns right (north) on Tulum Avenue
R2 keeps going straight, but different buses go to different neighborhoods.
The bus drivers are pretty good about helping people and many speak English
If you are going to ADO get on R1
If you are going to Walmart or other locations deeper inside Cancun R2 may be your best choice

This was so helpful! I’m staying at the far North part of the hotel zone and I was wondering what the most affordable way to get to the restaurants and bars would be. Any idea on when buses stop running?? Also, how quickly do they come around?
I’m glad it helped you. The busses run 24 hours to help tourist and employees get around. They run sporadically but you’ll never wait more than 5 minutes.
Thanks for posting. I plan on taking an ADO bus from the Cancun airport to the hotel zone. I think I will get off the ADO bus at Plaza Kukulcan. Then I plan on taking a bus to Playa Lagarto. Do I need to take the R1 or

Either the R1 or R2 will get you there and back. You are only a few stops away from either one.

Thank you 😊 Yes, both routes take you back to the hotel zone. They just go different routes when they leave the hotel zone.
How far is the bus ride from Oleo Playa hotel to downtown Cancun and Walmart?

It’s about 15-20 minutes. Maybe less. I think it’s still 12 pesos. I went a few months ago and it was the same. Just remember that from the hotel zone the R2 will take you to Walmart and the R1 will take you to ADO. Both will bring you back. There are huge stickers on the windows that remind you also.
Thanks for the informative video. Which bus would you suggest for a return half day trip from centro (not zona hoteliera, i will be staying near ADO station centro) to playa delfines? The same question goes for Isla Mujeres ferry dock. Really appreciate your time, answering me.
The R1 will take you to playa delfines. There’s a few different isla Mujeres ferry docks. If it’s in the hotel zone then the R1 still works. If it’s it at puerto Juarez then you have to take the R6

No. You will have to take a different route. Use the Moovit app and it will tell you all the steps. It’s free

Yes, when you arrive to Cancun from ADO there’s a spot where all the local buses stop right in front of it under the walking overpass bridge.

Plaza Las Americas is south of where they turn. It’ll turn right at Chedraui and if you want to go there you’ll have to get off there and take a different one there. There are a few different options. Just find one that says Americas on the windshield

@@asianangler not off the top of my head. There’s an app in the description, Moovit, that can help plan other trips but for this one I’d just check the vans as they pass. They stop in front of Chedraui heading south.

I think they go 24 hours. I’ve never had a problem getting one.
also Senor, in R1 bus i can visit mercado 28, and also walmart. i have checked the maps already and me and my friends might just walk to both the places from city centre. but just in case we take bus r1, so when we can coming from hotelera zone to city center or downtown, among these 2 shops which stop comes first , walmart or the marcedo 28
The R2 bus takes you to Mercado 28 then Walmart after leaving the hotel zone. The R1 bus takes a right at Chedraui and you can walk too. Just takes a few minutes more.

There’s an R2 bus stop right outside Walmart that will take you back to the hotel zone.
@@cancunvacationsecrets perfect. so basically the R1 and R2 have same route within the hotel zone. only after it crosses the hotel zones, r1 goes right and r2 goes left
@@sidkan3528 exactly. They also have their stops written on the front window. R1 will say ADO and R2 will say Walmart and Mercado 28 along with other stops written on them.
I'm staying in the middle of the hotel zone strip. Can I get on the R1 to go to Mercado 28? How close does it get?
The R1 will take you to Avenida Tulum right next to it. If you ask the driver he’ll stop there for you.
Does the Ado airport bus go to the Hotel Zone (Hotel Costa Occidental) or only to the downtown terminal?
Unfortunately they only go to the downtown terminal. You’ll have to jump on the R1 but luckily it runs right in front of ADO.
hey I want to take the bus from Cancun hotel zone to Puerto juarez ferry, how close does the bus stop to the ferry departure area?
The final stop is about a 10 minute walk to Puerto Juarez. Depends on how much time you have. Taxi from last stop may be another option.
Another option is to get off at Portillo which is known as the crucero stop and there’s vans there that take you to Puerto Juarez.
From Cancun airport, will the Ado bus let me off at the hotel I booked in the Hotel zone or it will only stop at the Centro station?
ADO will only stop in Centro. You gotta take R1 from there

From the airport you can buy a ticket and you’ll take ADO to downtown.
From downtown you’ll jump on the R1 bus to hotel zone/ferry.
I think you just had the names switched.

It just depends on where you get dropped off. If you ask the bus driver or people waiting they can clarify. A lot of people speak English. You can also check out the Moovit app and it gives decent bus options.

Just the R1 bus. It will take you through the entire hotel zone.

Yes! It takes you from Puerto Juarez to Gran Plaza. I take it all the time because it goes right through downtown too.

No. Its not a luxury shuttle. Its a bus that cost less then an American dollar to ride. If you want extras like that its going to cost you a minimum of 45 dollars via shuttle van. ADO is not going to give you a special place for your luggage. If you leave it a terminal you may not see it again. Seriously.
ADO is between Cities,Combis take you to the Mercados.

sir ,some more questions - i read two different things on the internet about the timing of R1 cancun bus. one website says r1 bus is till 10.30 pm last bus. and another website is saying R1 goes whole night 24hrs. my flight will arrive in cancun late at night . so i will come out of airport at 11pm, so i would hope that R1 is 24hrs. then i can take ado bus from airport till city centro, and take r1 to hotel zone. pls guide. if R1 ends in 10.30 pm then i have no other option except taxi.
You have to remember the R1 buses are filled with people that work in restaurants, bars, and hotels in the hotel zone. Many of those businesses are open 24 hours and the buses do too. Other bus routes may stop but I’ve never had trouble getting an R1 bus

Honestly, I just check with google on what rates should be and try to find a place that offers comparable rates. Typically the best places are right outside tourist areas. Literally one block away or on the way to high traffic areas. Hope that helps

I took the R6 to and from Puerto Juarez today. The gringo (me) was offered the front seat but I am the "ugly american" often enough so I declined that and just hopped in the back. Was so cheap but at the same time there was a bit of detour on the way back and I can't really understand what is being said so potentially not such a great situation. I was ok because I could see where I was ending up on google maps. Also taxi drivers offer to take you for 150 pesos but will come down to at least 100 if you don't look happy with that number.

Yes, it will go from Lopez Portillo, which is downtown Cancun, all the way down the hotel zone. The ADO bus stop is one of the most popular stops. It is super easy to travel on. If you tell the bus driver where to stop he will normally stop there
