Well said Reverend Al. I think he made most important point in this clip by contextualizing why DEI came about via the historical perspective. Not enough reporters talk about our political issues through this lens

The panel didn't get it. The real problem with DEI is two things: #1 Stop trying to push a narrative. History should speak for itself. Don't sanitize the past but don't demonize it either. #2 A good DEI program is complex, nuanced, and takes hard work. But most organizations want to be lazy - throw up a couple of pride flags, talk about how awful slavery was, and celebrate women's suffrage then call it a day. That won't cut it.
The last guy said people are tired of having it in their face. But it shouldn't even be presented in a way that feels forced. Take the art example. Instead of talking about how European art is oppressive, how about just expose art students to art from other cultures? After all, ART is a HUGE category that encompasses many different cultures, centuries, and purposes. The approach I'm referring to is similar to some points Adam Neely made in a YT video called Music Theory and White Supremacy.
UofM has done all of those things which is why the DEI program at UMICH is incredible and cannot be removed because it's fully integrated. The University of Michigan is incredible. Also, there are over 100,000 people at the University of Michigan and less than 200 DEI employees. That's not even a fraction of a percent. Not to mention the VAST MAJORITY of funds are used on scholarships for students from every race across the entire state. Student's of color are wildly offended at being pitted against the Black leadership that work with them directly.

I graduated from EOU in 2018 and I never got the suposedly radical woke attitude of the Founding Fathers being bad, or European Art being anything but a record of the social attitudes of the times and regions in which they were created. My BA is in Theater and Media Arts. I wonder what hapened after 2018 to make things so bad?

This provides opportunity for consideration for entry.... no one who does not qualify academically is enrolled.
I'm not against DEI, in general, but bombarding people with information about white-supremacy, especially in classes that don't focus on social issues, is dumb and will cause people to draw back from the concept of equality/equity. And second point, maybe the drop off in minorities applying to colleges might be how damned expensive it is, and that minorities still tend to be less affluent than us white folk. I went to college over 30 years ago and the 'affirmative action' students were very hard working and were as good as the kids whose parents could easily afford tuition.... It might help to have a unified idea as to what a DEI program should look like.
I taught college English for 39 years, and I NEVER heard of anyone bombarding students with ANYTHING other than course relevant content with the exception of one professor who showed too many sexually oriented films and was fired. Don't believe what you hear, and even if a couple students believe this happened, perhaps you ought to check out how they did in the course, what their gpas were, and what their politics are. Same with reporters.

Well, there is only so much a DEI focus can fix, y'all - how much worse would it have been without it? How did they implement it? Which program did they use? How long is the lead-time expected before seeing results? The climate in the US has been absolutely off the charts divisive in nature, so one would have to control for that in order to provide an accurate and precise assessment. Duh. Further, there are no magic pills for this. This whole segment is kind of stupid, frankly. DEI is about understanding and respecting people. It is NOT affirmative action. I don't see what's so wrong with that?!
