I really like how when Athena’s looking through Ody’s actions when she wasn’t with him, it looks like she’s looking through his eyes in some of them, and her eyes flash from white to normal once the thunder bolt strikes. It’s great detail and a great animatic!
I like how she reacts to the past. I also liked the utter confusion on calypsos face when ody says he has a wife 💀. This is probably my favorite animation of love in paradise honestly.
Yess it reminds me of God Games! (how she explains the reasoning behind each of his actions that the gods find problematic). In both cases she's putting herself in his shoes, something that she had never done before
the way calypso looks progressively nervous and upset in the second verse (like specifically her brows furrow with each line and the sweat drop) is just UGH. YES.
i like how in the begining, when athena is going through ody's memories...she starts off reluctantly and then becomes concerned with every encounter with differend gods
So, by the way... Calypso did get to "bed" him for several years in the original story... When Hermes came to her island to ask for his freedom on Zeus behalf, I SWEAR her answer, although very aulic, seemed to translate to "Ah! So you guys can fool around with mortals all you want, but we goddesses can't keep a single mortal lover even when he litterally shipwrecks in our domain?" And goes to enumerate a whole list of goddes- mortal relationships ended badly in myths, before conceding " anyway, Zeus is stronger so I'll do it. But it's BULLS***!"
Ok well besides the fact that it's my favorite animation from that song, I love this Athena, who is more and more like "How. How is this idiot still alive? This audacity-" And it only gets worse.
2:27 I like how it’s implied that Calypso is also bound to the island and can’t leave. It’s the small bits of characterization that I love to see in this song specifically 👌
i just noticed that it looks like his wedding ring is on a chain now instead of him wearing it thats so cool. kinda like if calypso didnt want him wearing it but he cant get rid of it because he just loves and misses Penelope too much, and at the end of the day she's still his wife no matter what. 😭😭
I've been watching a LOT of Love In Paradise animatics, and I think it's so interesting how every artist has their interpretation of Calypso's character. Especially considering that this is Epic, *not* the Odyssey, so the characters might have different actions/backgrounds/views. For example, it is never explicitly said in the song that she forces him to bed her. And because this is an adaptation told by music only, there are loads of ways to interpret what happens. Some animatics make it clear that she is abusing him, others give her the benefit of the doubt. I think in this animatic, Calypso initially sees Odysseus as a potential company for her. she is aware that they don't know each other and doesn't act as they are familiar, when they meet. But when he says that he is married, her hopes of maybe them falling in love are shattered. She is desperate, she is a prisoner in the island, and so she starts to act as if she's not only trying to convince *him* that they are the perfect match, but also herself. she knows he needs time and that he is not okay, but she doesn't want to be alone again, she is willing to do whatever it takes to be happy and to have someone to love and be loved, even if it takes lying to him and to herself. I'd say that in Odysseus' breakdown scene, she is just as desperate and miserable as him.
ooooh i love the detail of calypso offering an apple to ody and he just knocks it aside(apples symbolize marriage offerings in greek mythology im pretty sure)!! This is so beautiful!
I just realized, Calypso offered Odysseus an apple, and he rejected it. It's apparently like a greek myth that one would propose marriage by throwing an apple, and if the person caught it, then that was them accepting the proposal.
Odysseus not moving at all during Calypso's introduction shows how tired he is, he doesn't even has the strength to fight even though he would want to escape. While his body is controlled/forced to stay in one place, his eyes reveal his pain and reflect his loss of hope :(
I love how, throughout all your animatics, Ody has had long hair. But at the end of this one, it’s short- kind of implying Calypso is shaping him to her liking. Idk, that’s how I interpreted it
Yeah, but i’m a bit curious about why & how Ody’s long hair was short on his right side, when he arrived on the island. Probably a result from Mutiny or Thunder bringer!
I love the small detail in the song in general, of how Ody starts off in his own beat and tune, and slowly starts singing to Calypso’s beat and tune of her song.
What I like about your animatic is how you're able to portray how dangerous calypso is, while also showing a glimpse of her side of not being able to leave her island. I also like that Athena looks slightly annoyed or frustrated before seeing what Odysseus has been through, which turns into concern for his well being after seeing what happened since they cut ties. Amazing job!
Oh I absolutely *LOVE* that in the "Waiting..." part both Penelope and Ody's mother can be seen and both are suffering and sad (heartbroken) waiting for him, since the "Waiting..." motif is really related to both of them and is also sang by Penelope, both his mother and wife are waiting for him, or well... his mother WAS waiting for him, but Penelope still is, and if he doesn't hurry she will have a terrible fate like his mother because he didn’t get to her in time
Funny thing is outside of technically Circe most of them are just Athena’s family so she’s just watching them mess with Odysseus. And then Tiresias being just a mortal with strange powers, the goddess going through a mortals memories seeing him play fuck around and find out with all the gods and goddesses and most of the time losing. Because well gods and goddesses don’t care about you or what you’re doing it’s all for self Interest, if they can’t get anything from you (I.E. Poseidon) you’re going to die as Eurylochus says “don’t forget how dangerous the gods are” which is very real. Also Scylla is not a god or a goddesses, she’s just a mortal who hurt a few of the goddesses pride (mostly Circe) and she transforms her well into that.
OMG WHEN SHE EXPLAINS SHES A GODDESS IS INCREDIBLE! IT BRINGS OUT THE POWER SHE HAS BUT THEN SHE SUBSIDES IT TO SHOW SHE TRULY MEANS NO HARM!! THEN THE UPCLOSE OF HER EYES WHEN SHE SINGS "NO ONE CAN COME OR GO" THAT SHOWS HER PAIN OF BEING ALONE FOR YEARS AND YEARS FALLING IN LOVE WITH EVERY STRANGER THAT FINDS HER, MY HEART BROKE FOR HER THATS SUCH A CLEVER TAKE!! AND THEN THE "MINE ALL MINE" BEFORE ODY'S MENTAL BREAKDOWN, THANK YOUUU GIGI HAS HER HUGGING HIM AS IT FADES TO HIM DEPRESSED BUT I LOVE THE IDEA OF ONLY SEEING HER MOUTH AND OR SILHOUETTE DURING THAT LINE TO SHOW THAT HES TRAPPED WITH HER SPELL
I barely kept myself from cackling at Calypsos expression when he said he had a wife. And lord do I love how Athena seems to be living his past his eyes and her expression when the thunder crashes at the end of thunder bringer and just her sheer look of horror at the end of the animatic.
Appreciate Athena actually being in Ody's shoes for a lot of the replay! Makes it much easier to tell she isn't just going back in time, but actually experiencing his thoughts!
oh god... the RAW EMOTION in ody's eye in 3:38 when calypso unknowingly makes it worse for him... i'm WAILIIINGG you captured it so soooo well and with the following sequence i actually cried an ocean of tears that poseidon would swim around in..
There are so many things i love about this. The little details like the forbidden fruit reference, Ody being absolutely done with her BS from the start, Calypso fixing his haircut (i hate her but i gotta admit thats cute) But the breakdown is magnificent. This is the first animatic I've seen that has Ody manically laughing. It hits harder for me, gives off that he is genuinely going insane on that island. How this is the only one ive seen where Calypso isnt on top of him/hugging him, because shes not getting through to him. I love it. All of it. 10/10
Oh god... the way he smiles.. him smiling as hes on the edge of everything. I know that smile all too well. It's that moment of manic joy, "everything will be so much better once this is over" trying desperately to convince yourself to do it. Screaming at yourself again and again that its worth it. But not really wanting to let go yet. Holy crap. I'm shocked that you thought to include that emotion. I would have never thought to. Im so sorry that youve probably experienced it yourself
2:25, Calypso's tear during "No one can come or go" hurts so much more when you realize she's just lonely for being trapped there by herself for so long.

This animatic is gorgeous! I love how Athena pulls up panels of Odysseus's memories and how she views them in his POV. This animatic also gives chills from Calypso. I love the way you illulstrated Calypso's entrapment, from her expressions and words. It's most terrifying than I have seen from the other animatics. Well done!
I love how you showed athena diving through either time or odysseus' memories. The way that she almost seems to take odysseus' place in them, Poseidon's right in her face, in circe's arms, it's just a neat way to show her dive. It's beautiful art
Woahh, I love everything about this!! I love your Calypso design, and how she seems hurt when she tells Ody, “No one can come or go, my island stays unknown.” It’s so fun when people reference other myths in their animatics
Odysseus screaming, then calling for Athena is even more heartbreaking when you realize this is his FIRST time (in 20 YEARS!) asking, no, SCREAMING for Athena to help him, not even knowing if she was listening. Why...? The mentor that appeared to him randomly one day, whose help he joyously accepted, yet NEVER requested, left him 10 years ago... Everyone he ever loved, he could ONLY remember now... The friends he was told to keep close were no more... The one who taught him "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" killed 550 of his men, after his son killed seven, Scylla devouring six more, with the king of the Greek gods killing the rest, then leaving Odysseus to drown alone... And now, trapped for 7 years on an island with a woman he does not love, not even knowing if Penelope and Telemachus were still ALIVE (his mother in the Underworld was a surprise for EVERYONE, what of his son and wife?), what is Odysseus left with? Nothing but his broken heart, mind, and spirit resounding in a single word... "ATHENA!!!"
This is a very small detail, but the appreciation I have for you keeping Calypso away from him on that cliff scene is paramount. Other artists have done incredible work, don’t get me wrong, but so many have him approaching him. You _do not_ do that to someone in that position. As someone who has dealt with my own and others’ mental health in a myriad of ways, thank you for that.
Amazing! I love how you highlighted the divine aspects of Calypso. Most other artists have left her mostly the same during the “Bow down now to the immortal Calypso”-part, I think your approach is a lot more epic!
A lot of the animatics I've seen either capture the vibe I imagine for the Athena part of the song or the Calypso part of the song, but I feel like this is the first one where I feel it captured my image of BOTH perfectly.
I LOVE the detail of Odysseus refusing the apple as a rejection of her proposal! People from Ancient Greece used to give apples to those they loved as a partnership proposal, and seeing that surprised me!
The details are beautiful like after 7 years, how Odysseus's dress and the hand accessories also matches Calypso's, metaphorically showing both as prisoners
not me going in knowing i’m going to cry because why would anyone NOT make the last part sad, crying, then being like “wow why does everyone make their animatics so sad ugh that's so mean” the shaking captures the grief and desperation so well💔💔
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED IT :0 the "HELL NO I COULD KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND, I'M NO PET I'M A MARRIED MAN" AND ODY SHOWING HIS RING IS EXACTLY HOW THE THING WENT IN MY HEAD, IT'S THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT IN AN ANIMATIC. Your animatic is amazing, loving it to the sky and back
I love the close-up looks of their faces and when you just see their eyes you can see so much emotion in those frames but then1:31 had me laughing hysterically. It was a great balancing point for the complete tragedy that is this musical scene
I feel like I’m loving both interpretations of Calypso, the one where she’s more manipulative and Ody is genuinely trying so hard to get away, but in this She is really trying to help and Odysseus is just so *tired* that he doesn’t have the energy to be angry enough, but you can see the genuine, raw *fear* in his eyes when he hears “Stay in my open arms” because of a very PTSD reaction, and I feel like so many animators have captured that SO incredibly. And Athena? Genuinely such an incredible way to portray how she saw everything Odysseus went through, she didn’t JUST watch from the side, she stood in his place and truly understood. Also a note, the fact that even *Athena* was terrified of Scylla just makes Odysseus sacrificing six of his men even more validated, I see people using that as a reason he’s a terrible person but Scylla would have killed EVERY single man on that ship if Ody hadn’t sacrificed them. Another detail I noticed, whenever the goddesses are showing off their godly forms/power, their eyes are purely white. And when they go back to normal than they’re a little more “human” it’s just a small detail but another thing I loved about this Anyway… that’s my rant… I’m getting too obsessed with this musical 😭
@@RandomdudefromtheinternetActually, the marriage proposal is a bit of a misconception. Since apples were viewed as a symbol of Aphrodite, people would offer another person an apple if they wanted to… do the devil’s tango with them. But they were not used as a way to do marriage proposals
@@sarahcanas6344 Well well, you always learn something new. Although considering Calypso's first sentences are about bedding Odysseus, I think it still stands
I adore your Athena design, the fact the helmet fur/feathers are unclear as part of her hair/head or an accessory, as well as the foreshadowing with the lightning making her phase fully out of her spell in addition to her almost phasing out of it due to her emotions while she saw all the Odysseus has been through
I've watched several of Love in Paradise Animatics and yours is my favorite thus far. Your is the only one that has her showing off her godly power when she sings, "Last I checked goddesses cant die", proving that what she says is the truth and that she is a goddess.
Honestly maybe its a bad thing but i love when animators depict Calypso as someone whose suffering too. But this animation is one of my favs too because it showed Ody going somewhat mad
Calypso may be suffering but I doesnt excuse or undo the fact that shes a rapist. I hate seeing people who sympathize with her because no one would be if she were a man holding a woman hostage for seven years and repeatedly raping her. but because shes a woman and the victim is a man she gets "sympathy" because she's "suffering too" 🤮🤮
@@Whooachannel Alright settle down, I'm not saying I sympathize with her, I'm saying I prefer seeing her be a victim as well, just because it's a personal preference. I'm fully aware that she is actually a bad person, but I would rather think about how everyone's going through their own thing
@@Whooachannel Tbf, Ody is almost a mass murderer and would be much worst in comparison. Most greek heroes look pretty bad by modern standards. Like at this point, if we remove the fact that these are stories, it gets much harder to side with any of our heroes or simply enjoy the story.

Most other artists have left her mostly the same during the “Bow down now to the immortal Calypso”-part, I think your approach is a lot more epic!
HELP NOT ATHENA TOUCHING THE SIREN'S TAIL-😭💀a
You say it like you wouldn't poke it!
@@xaga8794whats wrong with some fish meat? If they kept the tails then they would have probably not killed the sun gods cows
I mean isn't apollo her brother?
@@deadpopcorn8523in Greek mytho there is 2 sun gods apollo and Artemis
@@KenzieRowell-h4z Artemis is a moon goddess. Helios is the other sun god
This is so perfect. I loved Calypso's face at "she's my wife" also she was gorgeous, this was so perfect in so many ways
Finally someone focusing on Athenas emotions during the memory montage! Great work 😍
I love your design of Athena. She is so soft and mind-vibing
I love how Athena whilst looking through Odysseus' memories she took the place of Odysseus in those scenarios
I just love the expression calypso made when she heard that ody is married 🤣
A lot of the animatics I've seen either capture the vibe I imagine for the Athena part of the song or the Calypso part of the song, but I feel like this is the first one where I feel it captured my image of BOTH perfectly.
Adore Circe needing to pull Athena down because she's fucking massive, even though Ody is most definitely shorter than Circe
the tear going down at 2:26 when she says "no one come or go", not wanting to be left alone again
I LOVE the detail of Odysseus refusing the apple as a rejection of her proposal! People from Ancient Greece used to give apples to those they loved as a partnership proposal, and seeing that surprised me!
The details are beautiful like after 7 years, how Odysseus's dress and the hand accessories also matches Calypso's, metaphorically showing both as prisoners
bro this is the best "love in paradise" animation so far, i don't know what to say, It's literally PERFECTION 🤯🤯🤯🤯
I love how done with it Odysseus is with Callypso before she reveals she's a goddess
not me going in knowing i’m going to cry because why would anyone NOT make the last part sad, crying, then being like “wow why does everyone make their animatics so sad ugh that's so mean”
the shaking captures the grief and desperation so well💔💔
I love how Athena is just like "Oh, a Siren tail..." - poke poke -
I think she'd say "shoot...apollo's is going to kill u ody"
Incredible.
I love how athena took Odysseus postionnin the flash backs
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I IMAGINED IT :0 the "HELL NO I COULD KILL YOU WHERE YOU STAND, I'M NO PET I'M A MARRIED MAN" AND ODY SHOWING HIS RING IS EXACTLY HOW THE THING WENT IN MY HEAD, IT'S THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT IN AN ANIMATIC. Your animatic is amazing, loving it to the sky and back
I love the way your design for Athena's hair mimics the plume of a helmet
I love the close-up looks of their faces and when you just see their eyes you can see so much emotion in those frames but then1:31 had me laughing hysterically. It was a great balancing point for the complete tragedy that is this musical scene
My theory is that he can feel Athena watching him at that moment and that is way he also remember all of those past events
And when they go back to normal than they’re a little more “human” it’s just a small detail but another thing I loved about this
Anyway… that’s my rant… I’m getting too obsessed with this musical 😭
I would be honestly interested in knowing how Odysseus' hair got half-sheared like that... Mutiny?
1:57 I love the apple ref, its the opposite of the Adam and Eve, they ate the apple and had to leave if Ody ate the apple he couldn’t leave
I think it's more about how in ancient Greece, throwing an apple at someone is a marriage proposal, and catching it is an acceptance of it.
Or the golden apple of that started the war.
Athena seeing what happened as Ody is a very nice touch!
This song breaks me so much. The animation really shows the anguish and despair he’s going through. The hurt is so strong
Im laughing at the instant flash right after the flash warning LMAAAAO
0:34 Athena being in odysseus' place made me laugh lol
This is phenomenal. I especially love the shaking during the cliff scene
HIS SMILE AS IF HES GIVING UP?! AAAAA
"I miss my wife, Tails, I miss her a lot"
I like her just poke the dead siren like are you
Really dead
I love your calypso! I like that she's portrayed more sympathetically than a lot of the other animatics.
And she doesnt deserve that
I adore your Athena design, the fact the helmet fur/feathers are unclear as part of her hair/head or an accessory, as well as the foreshadowing with the lightning making her phase fully out of her spell in addition to her almost phasing out of it due to her emotions while she saw all the Odysseus has been through
I've watched several of Love in Paradise Animatics and yours is my favorite thus far. Your is the only one that has her showing off her godly power when she sings, "Last I checked goddesses cant die", proving that what she says is the truth and that she is a goddess.
I like how you used the necklace basically felt like a collar, relating to Odysseus saying he ain't no pet
The emotion in Athenas face is beautifulllll this is so so good :D
2:41 THE LIPS THAT'S CLEVER! Also, I love that he already isolated himself to the cliff
They don't call her Ca-LIPS-o for noting (badum tsssss) (in all seriousness tho ty :DD)

Honestly maybe its a bad thing but i love when animators depict Calypso as someone whose suffering too.
But this animation is one of my favs too because it showed Ody going somewhat mad
YESSS!!!!!
@@Whooachannelin the book he enslaved women too so
the way she interacts with it so go you are underrated 100%
I love how you drew Athena experiencing what Ody went through rather than just spectating
