Maybe our crime problem is finally showing up in our visitor arrivals numbers! I know all about crime not being in the tourism areas but the U.S recently put Jamaica on a very slippery slope with upgraded warnings to their citizens about traveling to Jamaica. We simply can’t rely on our reputation any longer, more and more Caribbean countries have stepped up their tourism offerings and they don’t have to worry about crime impacting their industry. The American economy is in a holding pattern at the moment, there’s a lot of uncertainties in their economy, job openings have been on the decline and let us not overlook the upcoming presidential election! We must address our crime problem honestly with vigor and stop making it a political issue! The next administration must address the problem just like how we are addressing our infrastructure needs currently. Outdated laws must be modernized with severe consequences for all offenders. How can someone on murder charge get bail so easily? We must face this head on and finally address it honestly. If El Salvador can solve their massive crime problem, Jamaica can do the same with political will and guts. El Salvador once led the world in murder rate until they elected the current no nonsense president Nayib Bukele! We must take a page out of their play book. Nothing succeeds like success! 😢
