Question, if throughout the bible the LORD calls his people Israel why do christians insist on being called christians? It doesn't make sense to me because: In the NT Jesus says, Hear O Israel; When Ruth said to Naomi “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God"; Paul never called himself or anyone else a Christian; Joseph's two sons who's mother was Egyptian were Israel because they were adopted by Jacob, and if we are the adopted seed that means we too are Israel. Technically christ is the Greek word for "annointed" so christian would mean follower of an annointed; Paul and the other disciples were anointed. As a result we have people following anyone who says they were called by the LORD, which makes them a christian, but they are following that person not the LORD. If the argument is that Jesus was the only person under the anointing in the NT then anyone calling themselves anointed is out of order.
In the OT, Israel was not just a people group, it was a geographical place where all of the Hebrew people lived. The Jews were God’s chosen people as descendants of Abraham, literally. We, are spiritually children of Abraham, but not Jewish. Gal. 3:13-14 talks about us being gentiles, we adopted as Abraham’s seed.
