the one time i tried to be more emotional with a woman I was dating, had been a few months at this point and she was having a rough time so I decided to empathize because I liked her fr and wanted to tell her about a time when I went through something similar (therapy); I could tell within the next few weeks she was being more distant and acting strange around me, so I pressed her about it and she admitted than me showing that vulnerability turned her off. It was odd because like we've all been told by bluepill society or whatever you wanna call it, "men need to open up more!" so I was sort of taken aback when, since it was hard for me to do in the first place, I got that reaction from her. We ended up splitting up and it was a valuable lesson that women tend to say things that sound good on paper but think differently in a lot of situations. Of course this is anecdotal and not true for every person. My parents have been married over 30 years and I've seen them both be vulnerable at times and support each other.

You should show vulnerability to people you trust. But in a way that you were in a difficult situation but pushed through it and it made you stronger. Nobody wants to be your therapist, but if she used that against you, then you're better off without her

At the age of 45 I found my dream woman and decided to listen to the hype. Yep, my ex and I were together for ten years. I didn't show sadness or vulnerability for the first nine years. One day she was really upset over some stuff with her family, so I shared some personal information of my struggles with family. Even though she was sobbing from her problems, you could feel the energy in the room change and she physically scooted away from me WHILE SHE WAS CRYING.
From that night until she left, we were practically roommates. By the end, she wouldn't speak to me unless it was about money or some household thing that needed to be taken care of.
I will never forget the feeling of being alone in an empty house after spending years with my partner in a happy relationship.
