- This week on Ice Pilots, Mikey and Rob are looking at purchasing an American plane for Buffalo Airways, although this could lead the company to being bankrupt. The team also set out to sell a water bomber, but a landing gear failure could put their plans on pause.

Buffalo Airways is an airline based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. They mainly fly WWII-era piston powered propeller planes in minus 40 degrees and land on tiny strips of tarmac in the tundra.

The camera guys are amazing in predicting what part will fail during the flight.
Super-smart of Justin to elect to NOT fly it the whole way. As was said many times - it's not built for that.
And I think the deal for the P3's should go! A great opportunity and lots of work for them here in BC - But definitely 'Joe being Joe' the way he pulled it off. (Just 'finance' them! or bridge finance them - no bankruptcy risk.)
Very impressed with Justin' instructing ability. Is he a flight instructor? He's very cool and gifted pilot. One thing about "Buffalo Joe" he's always got something up his sleve! Great airplane! Anytime you can purchase a well maintained and documented aircraft. Buffalo has the fire fighting contracts ya need that P-3.

All of the details regarding transfer of payments should have been worked out - it's part of the deal!
As an ex Caterpillar and Komatsu salesman - all deals are big and no one wants to pay before receiving or ship before being paid. There are lots of ways to bridge this gap (even when there's no bank financing involved).

Odd how they gave it a Korean registration, visible on the rear fuselage, but the flight with the wheel problem shows the Canadian registration... the landing gear fix is obviously a recreation filmed in the hangar - the clue is the "Cleco" temporary fasteners on the little window rather than proper rivets.
Mikeys consultant looks just like Skunk Baxter guitar player for the Doobie Brothers.

Regarding the P3 Orion CP-188 It is based on an airliner the airliner l188 Electra that's why you can use parts for the L188 family on P-3 Orion same thing as P-8 & C-40 using B737 Next generation parts.
🤔 I tell you…They didn’t try to pop the plane up from a downward drop. They could have pulled up short and quickly and gotten negative g’s and positive g’s on the gear. It’s probably just what they needed to do. Airborne. Not sure why…I would have included that in the “Tried everything “ list. 😏❤️🖖🏼🇺🇸

We’re talking seconds on approach they’re already descending and they only need to jolt the gear downward? 😏 I don’t think you see what I’m saying. You can use the weight of the gear and gravity to fully drop gear and most Pilots would have tried what I’m saying. They would have gotten 3 green locked. 🙂🖖🏼
Buffalo will always survive. If all their contracts, spare parts, workforce commitment, bank-balance, and the love for flying is in place, then there is no ways of this aerline folding. Their team has prooved it time and time again.

All of these type reality shows are about to go bankrupt each episode if you believe the producers of these shows.
I believe it.. why else would they allow a t.v. crew to determine stuff and get in the way? They're desperate, and get part of the money. Makes sense.

It would seem to me that Buffalo should look at some C-130s. It is a proven workhorse.
I think the problem lays in registering a military C-130 as a civilian plane in Canada, Mickey said that in an interview.
Ok. Paperwork could take years too. It is interesting that the C-47 / DC 3 was also a military plane.
@@caisson71 Actually the DC-3 started out as a civilian project and certification. The C-130 was also certified as a civilian plane but I don't remember why it is so difficult to get in Canada. Other than that I also think it would be perfect for Buffalo.
DC3s were grandfathered in as commercial airplanes even though a lot of them were built as troop transports during the war. I think same with C47s but not sure

I don’t understand why Buffalo didn’t ask the Koreans for a deposit. That would have been like earnest money when buying a house. It means that the Koreans are serious about following up and Buffalo could have delivered the plane and received the rest after that delivery. I thought this type of transaction goes on all the time…
