6:28 it isn't a historical, it is now historical now, Rommel commanded the 7th Panzerdivision up until Summer 1940 and wasn't a general up to his africa campaign
SS divisions being militia is a complete miss. I was really hoping that they would make the SS a kind of special forces that had a recruitment limit of its own, and it would be by leaning more into reliance on the SS that you could increase or maybe even remove this limit. I really thought that when they introduced the balance of power mechanic, their intention was to eventually use it in their German rework as a BoP between the Wehrmacht and the SS, which was a very real dynamic historically. It is so easy to imagine of how this would look too. Leaning towards the Wehrmacht would greatly limit the number of SS divisions you can field, but in return it'd give more general army bonuses like quicker planning and a reasonable buff to the attack and breakthrough of all divisions, plus cheaper land doctrines to reflect the German general staff. But then if you wanted to have a bit more of a wild style of gameplay, you could lean full into the SS, where the trade could be even getting an increase to land doctrine cost, a general decrease in the attack and breakthrough of all divisions, but in return you get a significantly higher limit to the number of SS divisions you could field, a higher non-core manpower income, and give STRONG buffs that apply only to your SS divisions. You could then tie this back to the focus tree and make the BoP mechanic gatekeep/unlock certain paths. This just seems so extremely obvious to me I'm incredibly surprised they're just not doing it at all and have went with the lamest option.
Depicting the SS as militia is also just inaccurate. It makes sense treating Italian blackshirts as militia because they were never seriously intended by the Italians to be a substitute for army regulars. The SS is totally different. The Wehrmacht were very concerned about the rise of the SS's military relevance precisely because they were trained and equipped for the purpose of being a valid substitute to the army. In the war, the SS were hugely significant in Germany's fighting force, with nearly a million of its army being members of the SS. They were not at all a trivial or minor part of the German war effort, definitely not as uselessly trivial as being depicted as a couple of militia units, which absolutely no one ever uses unless they're doing someone incredibly gamey. I feel like their avoided for political reasons, but that's arbitrary considering the game allows you to literally play H himself. What a missed opportunity to have some fun.
The ss troops weren't exactly elite troops, they had good weapons, but the training was . . . SS troops were politically loyal fanatics. loyalty before competence.
