Extinction could've been so much more. Extinction 2 was scrapped in IW's development with a whole tower defense mode and Extinction was planned for a comeback with its files being found in the MW2019.
We had so many chances to have it return, but we didn't take it.

Im pretty sure mw2019 had a zombies mode but was scrapped for spec ops. It has concept art leaked and everything.

Extinction was so fun dude also tip for getting more teeth is if you beat every challenge without failing even one you get like 14 teeth per game
Equipping debuffs also increases that quite a lot.
I remember grinding the teeth so hard before they released the OP upgrades, that was when the most u could earn was 5 teeth per game (flawless hardcore run) 🙄

I always loved extinction. Friday night sleepovers the year before were all BO2 zombies but during ghosts it was always extinction I remember when we finally beat it it was insane
If I remember correctly there was an Easter Egg on the first map where if you shot the letters for “LOL” on the motel sign in the first area with the VKS then the cryptids exploded into small golden aliens upon dying
I've always liked Extinction. As much as I loved zombies it was nice seeing something new, a different experience and it allowed the developers to experiment
I love this mode, have beaten every map on hardcore and hit max rank. Me and my friend used to run duos with one medic and one weapon specialist, best part of cod ghosts no doubt. If you get all the dlc maps you've got 5 maps to play so there's a decent amount of variety (I agree the pricing is ridiculous when the game is dead though)
I'll be honest here: had Extinction been running for as long as zombies did, maybe not so long but still having more maps and having the gameplay be improved more in some later games, I'd prefer it over zombies.
Of course I wouldn't abandon the round based gameplay, but after getting used to Extinction, I can legitimately say I prefer something with an ending to it. Absolutely Thrilled that you made a video on this! So underrated man.
I get that. Everybody has different preferences. And that's why I wish we had a variety of side modes
I’ll always have fond memories of extinction because my stepdad and I use to play it almost everyday
You can also get a rhino before the second big hive if you run into the second area quick enough after the first big hive
I still play extinction to this day. I have a good bit of experience in extinction (I just reached max prestige and bought the 1000 tooth upgrade), I love the mode. I usually run medic solo. Speed is nice

Honestly I think a lot of people need to look at a game as a game by itself before comparing it to others in the same franchise because there are a lot of games that are looked at fondly that weren't when they came out because people are no longer just comparing the game to those that came before it
You can actually still find matches for extinction. At least on the ps3 version. I went to play it after seeing this video and I found a match in about 30 seconds

As a certified treyarch fanboy i absolutely loved this game mode with a passion. I remember getting to 30th prestige and getting the 1,000 teeth class upgrade. Great dlc especially awakening and exodus. Real fun game mode and this is coming from a guy who hates iw and sledgehammer
Forgotten?? I think of this gamemode DAILY!! It was actually my favorite zombies there was in cod. Could’ve used some more variety besides those tiny changes in the map. But I honestly adored the mode
They actually did bring extinction back in IW Zombies as an enemy on the space map, that’s why you spawned with a rifle instead of a pistol.

Extinction was such a good mode, definitely a break from zombies and it was just brilliant, just wish it was executed better. I hope they bring back to mode in the future

I loved playing extinction, Ghosts wasn’t even as bad as people made it out to be, it had flaws like getting repetitive but it was very fun.
Unfortunately the hate train and demand for zombies every year killed Ghosts & Extinction 😒

I think it’s because people realize there’s more effort put into something like extinction then there is with the stuff we get today.
Extinction was such a W as a mode. I remember the demands for an aliens mode for MW2 and MW3 in the forums so seeing Infinity ward finally deliver on was just 👌
And I’m in the boat of thinking it’s as good as Treyarch zombies (certainly better than iterations like Bo4 and parts of bo3)
It was just a well paced, well designed horde mode

extinction was actually pretty good, i liked it back then and never knew why it was so badly received.
The DLC armory upgrades made Extinction extremely easy. One upgrade allows you to have two classes instead of one, so you can be both a Weapons Specialist and Tank, a Medic and a Tank. Another upgrade allows you to start with a skill point and one to replace the muzzle brake with the Ark attachment which deals insane damage to Cryptids, which when you combine these two together, you can basically double your damage at the start of the game.
Having 2 classes cost 1000 teeth and that’s basically what you play for, and at max you can get 21 teeth on exodus but that will still be with 1 class
I remember having a lot of fun with this back in the day but I did go back to and thought it was alright
I think one thing that you really missed out on here is the relic system. That was my favorite part of extinction and made the game mode much more challenging and fun imo. I remember playing solo with all the relic modifiers trying to get the highest score possible was the most fun I had with ghosts. I even managed to get top 100 on the first 2 maps before I got burned out on ghosts and went back to older cods and other games with my friends. I do think extinction would never be able to beat Treyarch zombies after the legacy that mode had built but I do think it was very underrated and provided a unique experience from zombies whish was refreshing. Would definitely wanna see it make a comeback in some shape or form in the future if possible but I doubt that will ever happen. Maybe MW3 zombies will be able to improve and revive the love I had for zombies when speedrunning ees and doing high round attempts to top the leaderboards
Definitely miss Extinction, the other maps were really cool. I could only imagine what they would’ve been able to do with it if Infinityward continued to make maps of Extinction.

I loved extinction back then and still rather have fun with it now. For the longest time Ghosts overall was my second favourite CoD behind bo2, and still in my top 5 nowadays. The dlc maps don't fix it's repetitive formula, but absolutely more fun and challenging with new enemy types, weapons, the teeth upgrades are great. Also one thing you forgot to mention, the relics. For each basically prestige without losing progress, you can put on one relic, choosing if you want to make the game more a challenge for yourself. And the playerbase still exists on console.
I still play extinction, i love this mode just wish we got a proper continuation
I replayed it in early 2020, and I actually enjoyed it ngl.
I will say the 1st map was terrible in my opinion, but the gameplay loop and quality of the maps got better as the DLC's went on. It really just sucks cause the 1st map gave the first impression to the entire community... and first impressions are extremely important.

I was always one who thought extinction, and ghost as a whole, was a rough gem. I definitely agree that it didn't deserve as much hate as it got. It's definitely one of the last cod games that i enjoyed outside of its extra zombies-like mode, BO3 is alright i suppose.
Also, fun fact: If you shoot the L,O, and second L on the hotel sign in the first area (in quick succession when all the lights are on since some flicker) whenever you kill they aliens they explode into little golden alien toys that share the same model as the alien toys you can see laying around the map in BO2 Nuketown. I remember activating that easter egg all the time with an old friend

This whole game was slept on. Nobody wants to talk about how amazing the campaign was and nobody wanted a mode that didnt have zombies. This shit was good judt not to the mainstream audience.

I just bought ghosts on xbox series x about 10 years after i turned it in on 360. And honestly the campaign is actually enjoyable and merrick is a great character

Thank you for mentioning this I've been playing cod ghost for more than 9 years and I loved extinction mode. I just wished they made a part 2 of Call of duty Ghost but I'm afraid they will just make it worse like they did with modern warfare 3 and that's not something I can live with. Also I believe if we stand together and build a community and keep sharing this video we might be able to get Treyarch attention. Which ik sounds stupid but if we can just repeatedly pester them or make fan animations of the game and make it go viral maybe it might do something. (SOMEONE AT LEAST MAKE AN ANIMATION OF COD Ghost PART 2) I can live with that rather than a cliffhanger I just can't sleep knowing roke beat my ass in the end like BRO I WANT REVENGE.
Id say extinction is as good as black ops one in terms of quality since it had a little jank. But it was really fun and needed more time to find it's identity to really become something special, where as zombies has 3 games to reach to that point. But also extinction is very different than zombies and has its own fan base separate from zombies fans, I've seen people who say they don't like zombies but like extinction, so comparing to to black ops 2 is ultimately apples to oranges and the comparison doesn't truly hold up in the end.
Isn't it wild we had a mode with its own identity? Wish we would get that again 😢 it truly breeds creativity.
I’m pretty sure a lot people know this but console ghosts is still popping, point of contact up to mayday seems to be pretty active everything else has taken me about 2 hours to get another person in the lobby

It was certainly an interesting mode for the handful of times I played the first map
I used to play this split screen with my friend and die at the second section of the town
I actually bought all the dlc just for extinction. I enjoyed beating all the levels. They were my first completed side modes ever. I think it was because the levels kinda play like Destiny raids kinda without the boss.
I never really got into extinction but my brother absolutely loved it. It was a good spiritual successor to resistance but it was flawed in so many ways. Having to protect the drill while getting mauled by aliens wasn’t fun at all. The upgrading was ok but still sucked. If I played it today I’d probably have a good time like with zombies. I never actually beat the first map or progressed beyond the second to third hive. The scorpions made that hard af (I have some ptsd from them). Maybe in the future we’ll get a good extinction game that at least isn’t rage inducing as this one was.

We need an extinction 2 tbh the mode was actually very fun and very well put out with its strategies. The bosses the maps the layout and many more factors are such a good upgrade from zombies

I actually got mad at the community, as a Zombies fan during CoD W@W till even now it was frustrating to see a different mode being bashed for being different. I liked the team play of Extinction with a set ending to each map. Zombies fans seemed rabid about this mode kinda like MWZ as if because this mode exists they'll never get another round based zombies.
