Why 5 coats of gesso???? Never heard of this many coats ? Isn't one enough to grab the paint ? I'm having trouble affording so many supplies ... love your work

Thanks very much - I'm painting on canvas so I like to get a good thick coat on. With paper one coat would certainly be enough.
What brand of oil sticks do you use? I’ve only been able to find primary colors with black and white.
