On a cold day I wear an old pair of bunker pants from fire service. Insulated and tough. In the summer you could pass out from dehydration but they sure keep you warm in the winter.
The light! The light! Crunch! 😊…it was probably time to scrap anyway. Thanks Mike - for me a daunting project and I can see for a lot of people after an initial burst of enthusiasm it would probably sit in limbo for years, but you’ll get it done and have a useful machine. Thanks Mike!😊
Well Captain, you certainly know how to talk the hind leg off a Donkey! Good project in view but trying to follow why something is happening can be tricky especially for an Englishman. That said, always good stuff much appreciated. Thank you for posting and glad to see the 555 doing sterling work.
Always go with the heavier duty option! 😂 In all seriousness, it will be easier to keep parts straight down the road when it needs parts. Plus I have never heard anyone regret have more capacity than needed.
I like how you think through the options “out loud” with us. If you can convert the existing rear end into enough cash that goes towards a super duty rear end, that will make you happy. That said, if you have enough confidence in the existing one (based on all inputs) and decide to “roll the dice”, I’m down for that too. Either way it’s a journey worth taking for us. You somehow make the mistakes and failures into learning experiences that we all get value from. It. Is…..one of the reasons why we watch you 👊💪
Really amazes me and I am sure yourself that only 25% of the people are subscribed to your channel? Their loss as you have so much to share and give to your viewers. thank you sir for another great video.
With all the weight reduction going on it must have been a racing dump truck. We all know that lighter is faster. lol Major project, but worth the effort. Congrats on getting the plasma cutter. Thanks for sharing.
Hay Mike! You add a whole new meaning to "polishing a t*rd!" My 1977 Chevy 1-ton 350 V-8 Dump started out the same as what you are doing. It's a great truck. Bump the starter it's running, and it'll haul more dirt than you can put on it. Go with the super duty rear end, you'll be happy you did! Another awesome video, although you cost me some money! I'm gunna have to get me a plasma cutter - for all the reasons you listed. Thanks! Lee
The Captain is putting himself together a nice fleet, cobbled together from old junk. This should go well with that backhoe. The dump truck will make the backhoe more useful, and the backhoe will make the dump truck more useful.
Oh, am I loven this, this is going to be a sweet project, I want to see how you are going to build the the Frankentruck, bet you’re going to come up with ideas I would never have thought of, I’m probably more excited than you are! Thanks for the update sir.
It doesn’t get better than a good honest fun down to earth Captain Kleeman episode and a cold beer after a hard days graft. You innovate, break many rules and make us laugh but you ALWAYS get the job done ! 👍 You deserve way more subscribers than you have , you should have millions ! You are very much appreciated Mike, please keep em coming. Thank you and best wishes to you and yours Mike, from Britain 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧
The folks at mill supply were awesome getting me all the parts i couldn't get in Canada for my f550 dump truck rebuild. Love❤ the channel . Any parts that you anticipate removal, scrub the threads with a wire brush on a drill & soak in penetrating oil. Fabricate your panels Before you cut the old rusty ones out. Having a reference for size & shape is everything. In the end all your hard work is totally worth it.
If you ever see a new building going up using Q decking, the cutouts make fine floors. It's just scrap to them. The ribs can be cut out for use separately.
You sure like a challenge there Captain ...... but as you said it's a great learning experience and I'm betting my dollar you will get er running and make good use of it on the homestead. Also Mike the 555 is coming in handy moving around big stuff.
watching ratrod bob using his plasma convinced me into purchasing one and happy I did. Body swap isn't that tuff, look at it before whacking pieces off and you will see it clearly. Great exepeince when you are driving it.
Glad to see Vevor to the rescue. Glad they got you a plasma cutter. I may be repeating myself, sorry if so. Had a coworker who’s dad always wanted a plasma cutter so he bought one with nothing better to do. Ended up making a new career out of it. He had the proper licensing to empty and recover gas from old propane and refrigerant cylinders. Got an old trailer and started getting paid to take all the cylinders off of the areas townships that they collected during rubbish pickup. Emptied the cylinders properly and made them safe. Then cut them into chunks for scrap recycling. Apparently not many people want to bother with getting the proper instructions and licensing so they accumulate large stockpiles. Started making more part time then he did before retirement. Suspecting you could make some interesting videos doing the same while seeing what you can recover and reuse. Along with making some extra cash for projects. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Wishing you and your family the best,
I bought 30ft of 10 gauge wire connected directly to my flux core welder to a 30amp 120 plug. Works great. Just a thought. Look forward to all your videos!! The bridge is a work of art!!
keep your tip in good shape, orifice perfectly round keep your standoff distance correct, torch close to workpiece keep your arc angle and travel speed correct much love,
Nice new plasma cutter, way to go!!! Just need a lot of volume of air and torch tip needs to be almost touching the metal. Travel speed depends on seeing the slag blowing out the bottom, as soon as that starts to quit happening, you need to slow down. That’s what I learned and I’m excited for this new experience for you.
A plasma is definitely nice to have. This build is gonna have plenty of content. Hopefully your channel is growing. More project revenue. Clint is smart man to be friends with.
I would believe that rear axle will be adequate for your low speed property endeavors, as well as the brakes, the only thing just make sure you have a decent set of Springs under it
Beware the rear spring shackle mounts. The drain holes get clogged and they rot out completely. Dorman make decent replacements with all the bolts and bigger drain holes.
I like how you think through the options “out loud” with us. If you can convert the existing rear end into enough cash that goes towards a super duty rear end, that will make you happy. Get yourself a good water separator for the plasma cutter. Makes a big difference. I use one that uses beads that collects the water.

Check the CFM requirements on your plasma against the CFM rating of your compressor. Plasma Cutters take a good volume of air to run well.
Dry air is also critical, or you'll be going through a lot of consumables.

If you weld a hook on the back of the bucket front and back or the end of the boom. Your straps and chains will be easier and safer to use
It has hooks, that's what the chain is hooked to...
