I just saw this figure at my store. Thinking about getting it. If you havent played Doom eternal you defenietely should, its 10$ for the base game on steam now
Big Doom fans here. As we have had very few Doom figures since the 90s, I feel like any figure is a welcome addition, regardless of its quality. QOTD: Eternal Praetor suit is goated imo, it balances the classic & 2016 look. Had to customize the first release Slayer; it looks and articulates much better (and can hold the Super Shotgun with both hands). As for Doom Eternal as a game, the game is a GOTY of that year, imo, much better than Doom 2016 in terms of gameplay and miles better than any modern recent FPS. It has a learning curve, but once it clicks, any FPS is going to be stale. I warn you, lol.
@@uppercutgrandma4425 I'd say no since dolls would be more for cloth goods and typically have less articulation while action figures make well "action" and usually don't have cloth goods. But that's more of my definition
Pretty cool looking figure but I agree not a fan of the exposed mid section either. I think customizing him with some black wash would make his paint job look a bit better on his armor as well
Companies making deals with Mcfarlane Toys is always infuriating to me. Like most of their figures look bad, they're out of scale with each other, barely possible for some not because of a lack of joints, but because of bad engineering in the joints, and they barely build upon any of the IPs that they have the rights to. Like we can't even get a proper Doom toyline because of Mcfarlane Toys. And the classic one (which is the only good one) is an exclusive. It's very infuriating how bad the products are. Like I'm not judging Todd Mcfarlane as an artist or a person, hell he's probably not even a bad business manager. But he has crappy toys.
Crotch piece looks like it matches color for “shirt” around mid drift making him look like he’s wearing a wrestling singlet over pants. A very deep V cut singlet lol
@@AnthonysCustoms ahh I was under the impression that since McF Toys is a US based company, the availability is much more abundant over there. Guess I thought wrong.
I really appreciate the review and the tip about the seller! I had no idea this figure existed, it looks solid, but I would NOT pay the mark up for it. Retail is totally fair for a neat throwback figure. I'm going to give him a WWE Chainsaw or some NECA guns for more appropriate weapons. Thanks!
Good figure, but needs more paint. Repaint mine - brown leather for the pouches, drybrush and dark washes for the armour, pants and helmet (lots of details on it!), rust pigment for the boots (martian red dust), wash for the skin and It's a totally different figure.
I like the figure but the exposed midriff really annoys me. The only reason it's exposed in the game cover art is because it's been torn away. If they were going to recreate that, they should've recreated the other damage elements such as the tears in the pants and the bloody scratches. Without those it just looks like he is wearing a crop top on purpose. I do blame McFarlane for that aesthetic choice because they took a half measure instead of committing to fully clean or fully damaged. As soon as another company takes a stab at this design I'll probably replace this one. It's skating by purely on merit of being the only figure of an iconic design.
@@ted7728 I use model color acrylics from hobby lobby and put a glossy varnish over its on certain parts of the armor and elements and then I use a matte varnish to cover the areas of paint that are not metallic I cut the meat hook off of his shotgun so it looks like a regular standard super shotgun now I also cut down the blade on his wrist blade so it looks like the blade is retracted in word not sticking all the way out I would say probably the most difficult part was doing the metallic blue paint over his visor and then sealing its with very thick glossy varnish to make it almost look glassy looking
I would've liked for him to have both arm swivel and double jointed elbows so he could hold a gun in one hand and cradle it in the other. I love classic DOOM, as a game, and was ready to order one, until I saw this video. Thanks for showing it off.
It's pretty decent figure if you're a Doom fan. I love the game series and this is a step up from the last Doom Slayer. Mcfarlane figure don't have the best articulation, but this figure has way better articulation than most of their other figures.
question of the day: I really like the new high tech praetor suit, but I'm still all about the classic suit, even if it shows his pecs. As always some issues with articulation with mcfarlane toys. Still, I would love to have the representation of the classic doom guy. BUT, he really should have come with additional fist hands(even in the game, while still a shooter, he punches, A LOT) and maybe BFG or crucible(if you have seen trailers, it's the red energy sword), which is included with another alternate skin release. Hell, give that man a freaking chainsaw! Can always count on great and honest Anthonys review
Thanks for the review - coincidentally, I was keeping an eye on Amazon's stock (third party seller) hoping for it to go down in price, but I managed to find it on eBay for retail. I'm a huge DOOM fan and have always wanted a fig representing the original look/games, so I'm glad the shoulder cannon and arm blade can be removed. It seems like an overall good release for McFarlane! EDIT: I just received my copy from eBay. It turns out, if you want it to be even closer to the original games, you can actually remove the grappling hook from the shotgun! It's glued in, but some tugging was all it took for me to remove the piece. It leaves a shallow slot beneath the gun, but it won't really be noticeable when posing.
Nice. I wanted a fully retro figure though... no need for the equipment launcher or the arm blade. Just give me classic Doomguy with various hands and all the classic weapons. Give me classic enemies too. Imps. Barons, Zombies, an Archvile, a freaking huge Cyberdemon...
The abs showing are part of the iconic box art, however you can unlock this outfit for the slayer in Quake Champions that does have a torso attachment that gives him abdominal armor, but to cover those abs up would be as blasphemous as putting attachments on an AK-47.
Zup Anthony, very cool figure, as always the base its the best accessory of all! What’s up with the cake!! No ratings on the CAKE!? Wait its lacking 😂 thanks for the video…KEEP COLLECTING!!!
I feel like the 2016 design is the best. I never liked how the classic one had his stomach exposed and while the Eternal one is cool, I prefer the futuristic look of the Praetor suit.
What was the last figure review on? I'd like to know which one is that bad because I don't wanna waste my money on something bad. I just ordered the doomicorn and I am so excited to show my boyfriend, he is going to laugh
Actually doomguy is only like 6’2 in his armor while Chief is what, like 7’2? Anyways not sure if I’m getting this guy. Love the classic suit but already got the figma preordered
I much prefer the new design for the character as I'm a big armoured character fan and the armour looks cool to me. It fits into the different lines I collect more. Also is anyone else kind of tired of this Mcfarlane only coming with a few items. Like this probably could have come with big cool sword. McFarlane has some weird articulation schemes that they really need to work on
I have this guy coming in and I'm curious. If you cut some of the plastic away in the bicep would he get better range? Significant enough to make it worth doing. Also not sure if it'd look really bad.
I didn't find anything wrong with that other review.🤔 I have this figure. I love the classic look. I didn't get the other figure but I'm so glad I was able to buy this exclusive figure. I preordered it as soon as it was announced.
Yeah, I can't stand the lack of decent articulation in the Eternal Doomslayer. I haven't gotten this classic version. I really wish Neca would do Doom figures. If they did, the derail would be just as good if not better + articulation would be WAY better. Plus, they would probably go all out and do a whole line of figures if they did - not just one figure repainted like once or twice.
I know this line is making huge amounts of money just as they are, but I would have preferred smaller figures in exchange for modern engineering. Some of the joints (knees, elbows) are just ugly to look at and the articulation is really outdated. To me, limited articulation kinda defeats the purpose of an ACTION figure. Still love some of the molds and paintjobs though.
Until these figures came around, I never noticed how exaggerated his design's always been, but it's clearly a hindrance to figure design in terms of articulation. He *needs* to be able to move his elbows more so he can properly hold a shotgun.
Do you understand that in the game that is and in the artwork that is literally just his like relaxed hand he always has his hand in a weird position like that it's not that bad
I think you're a little hard with this a-f... I own it and I find it very beautiful and the joints aren't that bad so I find you a little hard. Then it's your opinion.
You said it can't pose well then proceed to lose it pretty well. I don't need a brute like Doomguy to get Spidey poses. Sure more range is nice but he seems to be capable of most of the poses you'd want from him.
