This early 1964 'reverse' Firebird Vll weighs just 9.00 lbs. and has a nice nut width of just under 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Solid mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck with a medium profile, and bound ebony fretboard with 22 thin flat frets and inlaid pearl block position markers. Headstock with gold-painted "Gibson" logo on black plastic truss-rod cover. Individual Gibson Banjo-style tuners with rearwards tulip-shaped metal buttons. Three patent-number mini-humbuckers, each with a small rectangular black labe lettered in gold "Patent No. / 2,737,842" on the underside. Three-layer (white/black/white) plastic pickguard with eight screws and a "Firebird" emblem painted on in red. Four controls (two volume, two tone) on lower treble bout, plus three-way selector switch on pickguard. The potentiometers are stamped "137 64 0X (last digit on all four pots obscured by the solder) which corresponds with CTS, January through March 1964. Gold plastic bell-shaped knobs with metal tops. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic 'retainer' bridge with metal saddles, Gibson Deluxe Vibrola tailpiece with walrus tooth handle on tubular arm. All parts gold-plated. There is an area of belt-buckle wear on the back of the body (approximately 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches). The lower tip of the pickguard has broken off at the screw-hole and the upper tip of the trussrod cover has suffered the same fate. There are a few small edge marks and some minor tarnishing to the gold hardware - taking all that into account this guitar is in excellent plus plus (8.75+) condition. Original Gibson black hardshell case with orange plush lining (8.75).
The first song I learned on Guitar back in '88. A few of us were hanging out drinking MD 20/20 and the older dude who owned the house we were at was showing a friend how to play this song. He asked if I'd like to learn, I picked up the white Cort copy of a Les Paul they were using and played that run down lick note for note, first time. I immediately found that playing guitar came easy to me and from that point on the Guitar has been my passion...Thanks Gary RIP
Victim of Changes?
Been a long time. I have missed these. 🤟😁
This is the one I bought in August 64, sold in 50 and gound back in 83 and sold again aournd 99 ou 00. Last time I saw it, acouple of years ago it was on sale at Otoban Music in Montreal..Easy for me recognized with the mark over the neck pick up (from the 60s) and the rest of it. Take care ot it it's a great lady..
Firebirds have withstood the test in time in Rock...I have a '78 Firebird III....rock on anything I want it too.....I've played anything from old Beatles to Godsmack to Foo Fighters to The Sweet.........
That Man in the Box was epic.
If you pause it, just right, at 05:09 you can see what would be one of the best Prog Rock album artworks of all time...
I really love this guy's enthusiasm
Great guitar FA, great playing Phil. Hard to go wrong with a Firebird. They always deliver.
Man in the box was AMAZING!
Soundgarden ===== AWESOME
bring it Phil!!
Man in the box was awesome !!!!
now that was an epic man in the box!!!!!happy canada day phil x from your fellow torontonian!!!!!!
Ok so he covered almost all my favourite bands in this! Red hot, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden! WTF I MUST GET THIS GUITAR!
the last minute of these videos is the saddest i dont want them to end=[
Damn, when the Firebird is with the Tonemaster, it sounds so mean, like it wants to kick you in the F*****g ASS, especially when Phil played "Man in the Box" on it, but when it is played with vox amp, it sounds nice and conteted. So this is one BADASS GUITAR!!
I wanna drink beer with this dude
That was a SWEET sounding neck pickup!
Sounds ace love the soundgarden and Alice stuff on this they sound superb nice to see somthing different on this beast!!
Damn , Phil should do vocals for Alice In Chains , he's pretty spot on.
BassOutcast Twin guitar with Jerry? I would pay good money to seen that. (don't they both have Friendman sig. amp?)
BassOutcast Yeah he should, but I don't want him to die now. All the Alice In Chains lead singers tend to die very young.

Love when you do Grunge Phil! The music of my coming of age .... you kill that shit. Reminds me of dancing in the cages of Long Island's rock clubs. Powder was probably selling out in LA while I was stomping my boot clad heels.
Dude your amazing you're playing insane both parts
firebirds are so cool
Dear Frettedamericana:
Please tell Phil that he should totally cover “Man In The Box” on his next solo album. And he should totally use the Firebird.
Phil is certifiable.
i swear the drills could win americas got talent
This looks way better than the firebird x !!
This guy is my hero…
MAN IN THE BOX!!!! Nice.
This guy is the best!!!
Phil X is so awesome in HD
Haha, man in the box was sick!! Awesome!
Thank you very much for "Man In The Box", that was wicked!
you should put the name of the songs that phil plays because in every video there are some songs that I don't know and I enjoy them !!! everyone agree with me !!!!!!!
wow, amazing guitar
nice playing, phil
man in the box was on point
he sings really good
PHIL !!! I LOVE FIREBIRDS THANK YOU!! THEY ROCK !!! A LOT !
Soundgarden was bit appropriate because Kim Thayil, lead guitarist of Soundgarden, actually uses firebird a lot
Firebirds are my favorite guitars next to Explorers! This one sounds amazing too (like all of them do)
Hi there my friend. I got a 1976 Gibson S-1 in today (my 10th one) and I also got in another Fender Aerodyne Stratocaster. Black, no pickguard. I have another VERY rare Strat on it's way and still waiting for my Minarik Inferno to find it's way here after a month of waiting on it.
Bessst youtube chanell ! A Real musician, fun to watch.
best reviews ive seen in a while! Came for the firebird, subbed for the vocals ;) keep it up
MESSY He has his own band and the newer reviews have them demo the instruments in a band setting.
props for playing soundgarden :)
I feel like I owe him some money for all the time I spend watching his videos.
I freaking love firebirds.
Man in the box was fucking amazing.
Dude!! You make me wanna buy Ever Single One of these guitars!!!!! \m/
You nailed Alice In Chains dude!
Wow the Alice in chains was pretty awesome indeed .... man that is “The Guitar “ Johnny Winter and Allen Collins from Lynyrd Skynyrd... man I am buying one for sure , I had a 1989 reissue 1957 Triple humbuckers Gibson Les pau Custom with triple alnico 57 classics on it ... man I wish I still had it ...it was very heavy with awesome sustain ...
I laughed out loud when he started playing Daughtry.
Great guitarist + Vocalist -> PHIL X FOR PRESIDENT!!!
awesome vocals
geez how i was hoping he was gonna play alice in chains when he mentioned a song from 1990/91....great shit
phil sounds GREAT for grunge
Yes sir it was...Hope she will have a good life now. I have pictures of me and her in the 60s and the 80s and 90s. You may go to facebook pages and there is plenty o photos of it,
Michel Rousseau Montréal
Rollercoaster...of love...rollercoaster...hooo, hooo, hooo!
He does, he's wearing it.
I was GASing for a Thunderbird (Firebird Bass, for those who don't know) Now I think having a Firebird wouldn't be bad either. There's only so much money though, I might have to end up building one or both of them.
u ROCK dude , u should play BORN TO BE WILD
You are ridiculous, and awesome. Thanks for the great video and guitar playing bro!
imagine if phil x was your dad
Nice sound !
That thing sounds to DIE FOR clean
This guy is totally pro
Sounds like a Gretsch and Gibson at the same time, a nice twang to the classic Gibson chrunch
Phil, you should try to play some old school Judas Priest on a Les Paul Custom next time! Glenn used to use LP Custom's and 60's SGan stdards in the old days! Rock on!
soundgarden!!!!! YEAH love those guys
HOLYCRAP 8:10 sounds just like meet her at love parade 2001
I smiled through the whole video, that was fun to watch. Your fucking awesome!
IIIIIIMMMMM THE MAN IN THE BOX!!!! ALICE IN CHAINS!!
@JacoPastor Thats because they do about 10 videos each session, so they used the same amp for all the videos in that session
love this guy!
I Love This Man
Please use the Tonemaster. It sounds sooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!
phil x i actually love you ;D dont ever stop making these videos haha x
You're my guitar hero. :)
Phils killer no matter whaat he does hes a force
I love you, man.
@JacoPastor Not everybody watches every Frettedamericana video so they might not have watched previous videos to realise that.
@Guitarristasdel22 somebody asked that on another video and frettedamericana says that they can't do that because they don't know what the songs are. Phil doesn't plan out what he plays or tell them what he played usually.
Come on Phil, I know you've got some acoustics in that shop. Do some demo vids of them!
yeah c'mon lets hear the tonemaster, that thing rocks!
@Vizatrox Man in the Box by Alice in Chains - "It was released as a single in 1991 after being featured on the group's debut full-length album Facelift (1990)." Wiki
Would love to hear these things through a Marshall.
do more AIC man,, you rock!!!
who here knows that theres no way in hell that they could ever buy one of these guitars but watch anyway cuz of Phil?
This guy isn't human.
@MrOffandonagain
that song is Victim of Changes from Sad Wings of Destiny
Does anyone else notice how his face turns beet red whenever he sings?
Brian jones guitar
please phil, review epiphone dot, squire telecaster, and other low end guitars to make us feel secure
Rollercoaster of love! Uh uh uh uhhhhhh
@tehwasabiking right you are, i meant to say outshined
hey phil could u do a full guitar lesson on roller coaster
"Today we dont have the Tonemaster"
*Mouses over the Exit button, Realizes its phil X, Stays on video like a normal person*
I actually really like the Alice and Chains on this guitar :)
That was some sick Alice in chains....
man, I'm looking for the "Cheap Sunglasses" video but I can't find it, remember which one it was?
I'm telling you, the Firebird is your guitar. No one in modern hard rock has really made their mark with it. I'm sure Framus can cook you up something similar, maybe just changing it to Humbuckers might be enough.
At first, I'm thinking "Phil doesn't really play all that much metal on this channel." (or any channel, and you open up with some Judas Priest. Lovely!
I'd love to hear some Sabbath sometime, or maybe if you're not adverse to tuning down, some Sleep! I always wondered how Sleep would sound on a Firebird.
