- Broadcaster Michael McLaren says he just can’t understand “all the fuss” about the all-male, members only Australian Club.
The elite Sydney club has been subject to criticism over a recent vote to remain a male-only club.
“Its membership is certainly not a snapshot of the demographic complexity of modern Australia,” Mr McLaren said.
“But if that's its biggest sin, then I'm not sure there's much to get outraged about here”.
"In voting against admitting lady members, the blokes at the Australian Club broke no law".
“I suspect much of the commentary this past week stems from a wider narrative about the evils of patriarchy and all of that”.

Being a “vestige of a bygone era” doesn’t mean it needs to change. Progress is not always a good thing. There is nothing wrong with traditional men on,y spaces and women only spaces. Perhaps more traditional things need to be preserved.

There was a similar case in the NT with a female hairdresser that only cut hair for men and of course was challenged by feminists. She raised the question, what gives women the right to appropriate every space. My hat is off to the Sydney club for not kowtowing to the destructive selfishness that some of these women bring to the table.
She probably got sick of the negative interactions and realized if she scrapped doing women's hair she could have a peaceful life lol.
