Wohoo, finally! Appreciate the review Omar. Fan 3 getting a lot of your casual listening time does say something. And regarding 'budget sound alike', imo should be at least 30% cheaper. But overall, I think you'll quickly hit a wall with this rubric. Still interesting tho. Imo should be done only when you have a solid option that jumps at you, and not trying to make it fit, if that makes sense. Thank you for solid work again
Agreed. Sometimes there is a budget set that legit matches really closely (My budget set for the Performer 7 comes to mind), but other times there just aren't. I'll be sure to not have one if I genuinely can't think of one.
They're TOTALLY different implementations of Bone Conduction. The KB02 sacrifices a lot of tonality for the fun of having something vibrate in your ear. I'll talk more about it in my review.
Penon makes some interesting products. I wish they got more coverage in general. A lot of their stuff does tend to be on the pricy side, though (like the Fan 3 without discounts or even higher). Thank you for another great review! 👍
Otra reseña fantástica, ¡Amigo! By the way, I consider budget sets to be anything under $100. However, I'd love to see your recommendations for IEMs under $300!
I need to get more things in that price range. I think I only have a handful of things in that range and there is a lot of differently tuned things. I'll do a video on it next year for sure. :)
Audio Amigo! Please do a video on eartips. Many IEMs comfort and sound change quite a bit with the correct eartip. That is a topic that not many reviewers touch.
Well done, sir. This may be the most articulate and nuanced review you have done to date. Plenty of small details, especially to the cable (ie polarity consideration, cable microphonics, and chin slider issue). I'm curious about the bone conduction tech, but not at $350. At $175, that changes everything. I'm going to to see what else is out there and see if I can find something closer to my preferred sound signature. I stumbled across a $40 set, which would be great to try for the inquisitive, despite the sounds signature. KZ should be releasing a set soon, at this rate. I don't think there should be a threshold for the sound alike, except for the one you think is the best representation of them. I love best bang for the buck though. It would be interesting , for example, in an addendum video, if you could take a high end set and found sound alikes at several price points from cheapest to highest. Sometimes people just want to put a toe in the water at what they consider an appropriate risk.
I really enjoy my fan 3 especially for hip hop.. but I prefer my xenns tea pro more for an all-rounder.. but since getting the mest mkII niether get much use anymore.. great finally seeing a review on the fan 3.. have you had a chance to try the tea pro yet..? It’s an amazing iem for the 350$ price bracket and in my opinion competes with much costlier iems.. great review and video..!
I got my Fan 3 during the BF discounts with their space cable. Been using it for the past week and I'm still tip rolling and sizing down finally did the trick, I'm normally a med but had to go small for these. I'm still deciding which one between the sancai, tri clarion and dunu s&s.
Great review, Omar! I’m intrigued, I’d like to try these, but if they’re too big and if the bone conduction feature depends too much on the ears shape, I’m on the smaller side, so I think I won’t get them. Would it be possible for you to review the new Kbear KB02? They also have a bone conduction dynamic driver, but those are cheaper. Would be great!
@@MeronOppa I have a review for the KB02 coming! They’re… interesting. I’ll explain more in the review, but you give up a lot of tonal accuracy and timbre for the Bone conduction to do what it does.
I was a huge globe/map nerd when I was a kid so I LOVE the faceplates. The IEM though… great smooth sound but I want more bass thump lol. I really wasn’t a fan of the BC switch at first, so much so that at first I thought my switches were wired backward. I’ve slowly warmed up to the BC sound now and I slight prefer it on. The fit wasn’t super great but the Jomo dual flanged tips REALLY work well with these.
I've never heard about it! I'll try and get one in for review. I want to explore some lesser known brands next year. I'll try to add it to my list. Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm getting an Anvil 114 loaner in from a friend, as well as the new Apevoix Grit. Should be interesting to see. Those two use different BCD Drivers though. So we'll see how they sound.
For the small lady sized ears I find TRN T-Ear Tips really forgiving, but also the Divinus wide bore with the right size are solid. Not sure how much difference it'd make for others. Neither are my favorites per se, but at least my experience.
The only thing that bugs me with Penon is how they're willing to give you 50% off code if you're subscribed to their newsletter making it very hard to justify MSRP as if you don't like them you'll have hard time even reselling them at decent price since everyone in the back of their mind would be like "Oh he got it for 180 and tries to resell it for X".
Oh 100%. I only got this because I was really wanting to try the Fan 2, but was waiting for them to email me the coupon. Got the one for the Fan 3 instead.
@@Musicophile-p5l It's a full-range Bone Conduction driver, so it technically works with the whole audio signal. But it works the MOST in the midrange, I think around 600-800Hz is where you feel it the most. And then it sort of bell-curves down towards the edges of the frequency response graph. If you want full shaking, rattling bass, this probably won't be it. You'll have to save up for a Zempire or Canpur 622B
@AudioAmigoReviews Thanks a lot, now that there's some BCD IEMs at $200 price range, I think this will be the trend in the upcoming months and we'll get better sets at lower prices. I have never tried BCD before hehe.
She liked the Jade version of the Tangzu Wan'Er and the Tangzu Yu Xuan Ji. She's not into headphones much, so I feel she provides a very good outsiders perspective
Hmm, have to shove it in deep huh. I've now concluded that my ear canals have an early bend and that makes for quite challenging deep fit. Which bums me a bit. As well as my right ear canal is slightly bigger than my left. This looks interesting, as with all BC IEMs. But to my understanding BC drivers needs to have contact to work and that is a weakness especially if one needs to have a deep fit. The Fan 3 is also $400, which is too close to my goal MEGA5EST. Must be strong.
At $240, I think it works well and can be a good value if the BC works for you. At $175, it makes a lot of sense. But I agree, at $350-$400 it's not all that competitive.
I have a question. Im should buy a iem. But which is the best for metal? I dont know. Im always listen to rock and metal music. Which is the best for me. I can't buy other iems. Also good video. Keep going on! - moondrop chu 2 - 7hz salnotes zero - 7hz zero 2 - truthear gate - kiwi ears dolce
BC driver ....... half-gimmick, half-amazing 😅 Wish I could try one out but just too big for my ears even just by looking at it(fitting a PR2 already sucks for me😐) But still, it's arguably one of the best looking faceplates and one of those appropriately tuned warm-neutral still with air & detail at the top-end. But man, $350 is just plain NASTY ngl🥶 Oh well, guess I just have to settle on P7 and see your take on it😁
