I can't even express how there's no competition in this at all. It's not even something you want to replicate because it's just so beautiful.
No matter what walk of life you come from, this 7 minute video grabs you in it's most purest form.
There are other great albums that have come out recently, but I'm still not over this album. I'm absolutely obsessed. I love everything about it.
too many people seem to not know that ian used to be in a kpop group (c-clown), and he was the main rapper and dancer. he also used to do b-boying. so, of course he can bust out these moves, lol just super excited to see it again :)

I’m not sure if there are tickets still but DPR the collective including Ian is coming to Orlando at the House of Blues in Sept. you should see if you can come. My friend and I will be there. :)

DPR Ian has been open about his Bipolar I diagnosis, which colors much/most of his work. When I first discovered his music, I was floored. I didn’t know anything about him but I saw myself so intimately in his work. I researched him and found out his diagnosis, and it all clicked. I felt seen in a way I never have before. Two years ago (finally! In my 30s) I was diagnosed with Bipolar II (so less of a “high” and not ever in a fun way) also rapid cycling like he is.
His work is SPOT. ON. for my experience and I understand how it can be so difficult for a lot of people to parse. Being in one’s bipolar mind can be extremely disorienting, yanked from a high to a low at any time. The high manic phases aren’t all fun and games and are often highly destructive. Substance abuse, risk taking behavior, self destructive behavior in relationships, etc have repercussions just like the dark depressive side.
I haven’t watched this that many times yet to analyze everything. However, my initial feeling is that, after he’s taken the pills and is made “colorful,” he is then brought to the reality of what he’s done with a relationship in Ribbon. I may be way off base with this one, but like I said, just spitballing here.
He recently did an amazing interview on the Zach Sang Show where he talks at great length about his struggles with mental illness and how it helps and hinders his creative process. I am so grateful that he is able to be so articulate about the way he experiences his life. I’ve never heard someone famous talking about living with Bipolar with such candor and frankness. I hope you can find the time to watch the interview, as he was able to enlighten some people who just know about Bipolar Disorder by what they’ve seen in movies. Each person obviously experiences it differently, but Ian shows us that it’s possible to be a functional and brilliant member of society and not just a guy screaming on a roof that he’s Jesus or something.

@@jomills4103 of course! Thank you for reading it. I’m one of those people who doesn’t shut up about mental health, tbh! It’s becoming less stigmatized, especially with anxiety and depression, but Bipolar is still something that is one of the “really scary bad ones” that not a lot of people know about. Except for the movie tropes that I mentioned, which almost always paint people with bipolar in a bad light.
So I’m really glad that DPR Ian is open about it too! It makes a lot of people like me feel less alone in our day to day difficulties.
It was such an honest and raw interview. Definitely a recommendation for anyone who wants to know Christian more

Bipolar disorders are usually shown in media like some crazy manic state but we barely ever see the intricacies of what it really means from an empathetic perspective so it's really enlightening to see people be brave to share how it really is. I hope you're doing well and finding some kind of balance in your day to day life.
