So I “accidentally” hacked the system for the birthday gifts this year... I got two. I ordered online some stuff and added my birthday gift to the cart and made my purchase. Then the next day I was out and walked into a sephora, just seeing what would happen I asked for my birthday gift and I got the other set I wanted. 🤷🏻♀️ now I have the urban decay gift and the drunk elephant one too

I worked at Sephora and yea you can get samples of most setting sprays in perfume sprayers. But the one Mar wanted was an aerosol can so it kinda dries as a powder once its out of the can.

I get annoyed when employees ask me more than once if I need help. I think is pretty easy to tell someone that needs assistance and not overwhelm people that’s just looking around.
Natalia RC yeah we are supposed to do that managers walk around and watch employees to see if they are doing what they are supposed to do. To avoid that I usually say “hey how are you today, let me know if you have any questions”

Also, when I used to go to Sephora each weekend, i would buy so much, and one of the employees loved. Gurl, she would give me SOOOO many samples. Like a whole mini bag full. She would open the drawers behind her and do hand fulls 😂 💀

I never understood why some Sephora employees were stingy with samples. They are losing nothing and neither is Sephora. Do they not understand how marketing works? Sephora doesn't have the sample policy out of kindness; it's literally both earning and saving them money.
As a former employee of Sephora we are instructed to only give out a maximum of 3 samples each day by management. However, I personally don’t mind it when people ask for more. I completely understand wanting to trying something before committing to the full size because things are quite pricey.
S Kael asking for 2 or 3 samples is fine. But when you ask for excessive samples, you are taking time away from the employee. Valuable time he/she could be using to help customers who actually want to buy.
The main reason is because of getting in trouble for spending too long with a customer who doesn’t have intent to buy. Leaders will coach on not pursuing clients wanting to spend, and wasting time with sample-crazies. I think 3 samples from any store is quite generous for wanting to try a few things while there.
i work at sephora and i don’t have a problem with clients asking for samples, i have a problem when there’s a long line and a client waits in line to ask for 4 or 5 samples at the register...
Lesly Artistry honesty I want to try everything all in one store trip usually when I get off work without my kids. Then usually by the end of the week I come back and just get everything I liked quick trip and usually ask for the person who gave me the samples. I don’t like returning items. I once had to go to three different store to exchange a fenty foundation since it oxidized. I understand that many do go in just to waste time so I appreciate the ones that help w/smile

Some of these “tricks” are and aren’t true! As a former Sephora manager
1. SAMPLES:
It’s honestly up to the employee.. because the staff had to do what was best for the client. A limit of 3 samples is only a thing for different reasons. Sometimes if the store is busy so that there isn’t so much time taken just making samples for one client.
2. BIRTHDAY GIFT:
Also long as they have the birthday gift and you haven’t received it. You can get it any time of the year. The ONLY reason they say “your birthday month” is because the system only tells the employee two-ish weeks right before and right after your birthday when they enter your info. Which is why they have to go digging around thru your history to make sure.
3. POINTS:
The system won’t go to negative. Most of the time if a client wanted a freebie but didn’t have enough points I’d just give it to them. A few points won’t hurt the employee or the store. Like I said DO WHATS BEST FOR THE CLIENT!!

Sometimes I would give ppl a couple more samples if I’m bored or it’s someone I know but I mainly stuck to the 3 bcuz I would get so annoyed making samples for almost every person asking me to help them. I was too nice when I worked at Sephora I’d hook ppl up with free mailers every now and then just to make their day better especially the sweet old ladies and men shopping for their wives

You cannot get both gifts (employee said you can) you can only get the gift if you have not gotten it (she said you can get it anytime) you cannot get as many samples as you want (employee in video also said you get three but she will make an exception) she said we can scrape out anything as long as it fits into the container (wrong we cannot scrape highlighter, blush, eyeshadow, lipgloss out) I’m an employee so I actually know what I’m talking about. She’s wrong as I stated.

Pretty much most beauty and skincare stores offer samples (Lush, Body Shop, etc). Some are more generous about it than others. Some places I feel like you practically have to beg to get a sample (Aveda can be snooty sometimes). No thanks to those kinds of places. :)
The lady that helped you out was a brand rep and probably didn’t know about about the “rules” for samples. If it can be scooped out or poured you can get a sample of it. But you can go and scrape a blush or a compact and mess it up just so ONE person can try it.

I personally worked at Sephora for 3 years and the reason I would say no too powders or blushes and anything powdery is because it’s very unsanitary and you won’t get much use of it it anyways

I mean spend money in what you want, but a lot of women don’t do their makeup well enough to go and spend all the money they do at Sephora. Especially for eyeliner, brows, basic neutral eyeshadow. It’s really annoying

It doesn’t bother me but I agree, I’m nowhere NEAR good enough with makeup to be shopping at Sephora imo, it would be a huge waste of my money. What good is a $70 brush going to do for me if I don’t even know where it’s made to be used most effectively. I go to Ulta and get cheaper stuff, and I’m someone who’s actually taken time to learn color theory, and my Mom owns a salon. I still don’t think I’m Sephora tier. Same for things like hair products for styling/cutting/coloring... if you’re not a professional, you’re going to be more confused in a licensed or high end beauty supply than you need to be, Sally’s is a much better fit for the everyday casual hair product and makeup user. I think Sephora’s marketing is made to tell everyone that they’re an MUA to get them to spend money, and it works... for some reason a lot of people find Sephora appealing, like an expensive clothing brand. It’s weird.

The skin girl wasn’t trying to get rid of you. We have zoned we’re supposed to stay in & we can’t be kept away from that zone. So we have to suggest someone that can give you your samples. If you need makeup samples, we send you to the makeup zoned girl. If you need a fragrance sample, we send you to her. Etc.

The 6 times I've gone to sephora I've never gotten asked if i need help when like seriously I'm too shy to start makeup and I dont know where to start so it kinda sucks they dont help me
I am the same way. I am really shy and an introvert so i try to do things myself but I'm to embarrassed to start messing with things on my own lol
I wish I could help you guys that used to be me! I was helping my friend from work the other day, it’s very overwhelming until you know what you’re looking at.
My advice is start with lips and eyes. Grab some lipsticks you like and a simple mascara. Even just start at the drug store and get what’s on sale. Find a palette that you like and watch TH-cam on how to do eye looks and smokey eye. Practise with your cheap palette until you start getting an understanding for what you like and what you want to see in your eyeshadows. (Brushes: cheap ones online, even dollar store ones, anywhere there’s a sale. Learn to use the cheap ones and what you like before investing in expensive ones. Crownbrush.com has cheap sets and sales all the time). Don’t worry about full face until you get this down, because once you know the basics, Sephora won’t be nearly so overwhelming. Then all you’re trying to figure out is foundation, and contour. So start studying those when you’re ready. And if it takes you forever to figure out foundation, that’s okay.
I also never get offered help and it really sucks having to approach them every time while if it's a white rich girl they already greet her at the doors.

Im a current sephora employee and have been for years and some of these are true and some arnt, like the samples, when can make samples of almost everything but not powders or mascaras or lipsticks or something pressed just because of germs or we would also break the product

I signed up for Sephora in December (in store with cashier) and she was like “what’s your birthday?” I say my birthday, in May, and she said “so your birthday recently happened so which gift do you want?” I was very confused if she heard me wrong so I said it again and she said I know. I used to work in retail and would get yelled at if I didn’t ask everyone if I could help them find anything. And yes, that includes headphone users. So unfortunately that usually never works, unless someone isn’t doing their job.

Idk about y’all but Sephora is my fave place to shop. I literally only ever ask for fragrance samples . They have a good return policy so if something doesn’t work out I return or exchange with no hassle. I honestly see no point to these “hacks”. 🤷🏾♀️
they have a good return policy only in the us. in europe if you opened and used the product it cannot be returned. you can only return a product still in its packaging.
