  • Early Tuesday morning, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies arrested Jason Satterly (DOB: 02/04/1977) for Malicious Burning of Land and Culpable Negligence - Exposure to Harm.
On April 30, 2024, at around 2:30 a.m., MCSO received a call to assist Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) after numerous fires were started in the Silver Springs Preservation Area near the 2000 block of NE Baseline Road. While units were en route, information was received that people were also camping in the woods. MCSO’s Aviation Unit responded and provided updates to deputies and MCFR about the locations of the active fires. A short time later, the crew on AIR-1, Master Sergeant John Rawls and Corporal Timothy Marton, located Satterly lighting additional fires and fleeing southbound through the woods.
Deputy Nevin Himmel and Deputy Jesse Brown initiated a track to Satterly through the woods with the assistance of AIR-1. Deputy Himmel ultimately observed him fleeing through the woods. Satterly complied with instructions and was detained. He stated he had an active warrant out of Kentucky, and deputies discovered he was an absconded sexual offender from Kentucky. Satterly admitted to starting the fires and claimed he was afraid because people were chasing him. AIR-1 advised they observed a total of eight fires and two were at least 30 yards in diameter.
Satterly was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he remains. While in custody, the MCSO Sexual Offender and Predator Unit also charged Satterly for failing to register as a sexual offender in Marion County.

This is just amazing how much the MCSO has changed since Billy took over. They always have well coordinated communication between the AIR 1 and the ground patrol. This was done very professional, even though this is edited...I'm sure the raw footage would be very long. But what I am more impressed about, is that this happened yesterday morning!!!!! The captured this man, and MCFR put out all the fires BEFORE it became a raging out of control situation. EXCELLENT MARKS FOR BOTH MCSO AND MCFR.

Idk it's definitely better but still eh, Ik alot of deputies that feel weird about some things in the dept, I just watched a clip of them charge people for petty theft and tempering because a detective left a recorder with interviews from the k9 shooting in they're car. Why are they charging theft for something that wasn't stolen but left there cause of the LEO'S error

What was he trying to accomplish starting fires? He had to know the helicopter could see him, but then again he’s not the brightest bulb
