A2 Biology - Controlling heart rate (OCR A Chapter 14.6)

  • Cardiac muscles are myogenic, meaning that their rate of contraction (ie. heart rate) is controlled by the sino-atrial node itself. However, the medulla oblongata of the brain can affect the frequency of its impulses to affect the heart rate under different scenarios. The adrenal medulla can also release adrenaline and noradrenaline that can affect the heart rate. In this video, we will focus on the nervous pathway of how changes in the blood can be detected and to signal a change in heart rate.

Hey @biorach I just want to say thank you so much. I completed my last exam for a-level biology yesterday and wouldn't have felt so confident if it weren't for your videos. These past two years have been really difficult to have had to learn so much at home but you really helped! You definitely deserve much more credit for the time and effort you've put into making an engaging and informative video for every chapter, you're a life saver! Thank you :)
