I have kind of vague memories of watching a televised play version of with the original Broadway cast which was broadcast on PBS's American Playhouse in 1991. The only member of the original cast who I've been famliar with is Bernadette Peters, who had played the witch. I remember borrowing a VHS of it from our public library back in the day. As for this movie version, I love the movie! Great cast, great director, and of course, great music. Rob Marshall is honestly an amazing director. If you haven't seen Memoirs of a Geisha, I very much recommend it. Not to mention, the cinematography is beautiful! I think it has a great balance of light and dark. I don't think it's too blue at all. They were definitely trying to go with a certain look with the movie being set in the woods. Talking about how old you were at the time you saw the show live is making me feel old (I'll be 42 in June)! 😂
