Great and informative, you’re the first one to mention that the camera work s in a blink kind of mode instead of continuously recording.

Very small recording clips. Almost not worth saying it records. Then there's a delay, for the next recording to start , if motion continues. This a little nicer than the average baby monitor. If you want to record for 10 seconds to 90 seconds, or a few minutes, get Ring.

Thank you for an honest and informative review. I have 9 Blink cameras, six outdoor and three indoor. The key to getting the most out of them, for me, was adjusting each camera’s settings for it’s specific location. For both day and night viewing and what might trigger each one. Motion is best detected when it crosses the camera (left to right or Vice versa). Something moving directly towards it won’t be detected very easily. But, you covered all the details so people can make an informed decision about Blink camera capabilities. Greatly appreciated.

Blink is very limited for recordings. You will not catch a thief with 10 second gaps between 7 second recording clips. They'd be in and out of camera view. It's a good baby monitor, for the whole room tho!

Just wanted to say that the original mounting bracket that came with the camera does swivel so you can have your camera at different angles not just straight as you mentioned. Hi Dy'Zonn DyJour! Thanks for the comment and question. Yes. I personally prefer a wired system. Spending the extra money for a 24/7 recorder is always the best in my book. Most of these systems will also give you the option of recording continually or when it detects motion. They don't require batteries and will work with or without WIFI.
As for the Blink camera... yes batteries are available for purchase. Wireless cameras are still good if you are not able to run wire throughout your home.

I only had the system for 24 hrs and it has done it twice already. I have yet to arm it because we haven't left to try it out. Can this thing record without internet connection? Please could you kindly test that for me? I want to use this on holiday where there'll be absolutely no internet access. I just want to leave it in hotel bedroom to watch over my stuff. Both camera and S. Module will be about an inch apart if not even less. I'll power sync module with power bank and use flash drive to locally store any motion triggered recording. Is this possible at all? That's the main reason I've got it anyway. But I plan to use it when I return back to Europe btw.

      Hi Rov D.
I'm excited about your trip and I hope you have an awesome time. But... Blink cameras can't operate offline and require a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Internet connection. One important reason is because cameras use Wi-Fi to send images and notifications. Blink systems minimally require a high speed connection of at least 2 Mbps upload speed.
Maybe you can use something like this for the trip:
32GB Hidden Camera Clothes Hook, Mini Hidden Camera HD 1080P No WiFi Needed Nanny Cam, Security Camera with 32GB SD Card Recording for Monitoring Home/Baby/Pet No Audio smile.amazon.com/dp/B08BLH84BX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_i_2ZN3BQEAY6VTRRCHMH97

Myself I have the five camera set and I don't use battery's, I purchase the in line type it has a sixteen foot thin wire so you can go on the top of your window with no problem closing the window and plug it into a wall outlet never have to worry about battery's.

Can the Blink camera be powered by a low voltage AC adapter instead of using batteries? It may not work for all cameras but if AC power is closed by, say on the front porch, this option can be a lifesaver for battery life during live-streaming.

    • @TeachMe101

      Hi Mel!
      This sounds like audio feedback.
That sometimes happens when the microphone and speaker are too close together. In this case the phone maybe too close to the camera. OR... There maybe something directly in front of the speaker on the camera. OR... there maybe another sound source (close by) that's interfering with the camera.
Thanks for asking. I hope this helps.

Blink works great if you accept the quirks. I have a bunch of them and they work great to let you know what is going on. For actually security, I use hardwired cameras on a separate system. For the money, they are fantastic and much much better than nothing. It is NOT bulletproof.

I bought these cameras for tight integration with Alexa. and configured Alexa's Blink skill.
    1. Alexa says it is arming/disarming, but it isn't. I have to do it in the Blink app. I can send you my routines. I sometimes works if I say a single command like "arm garage". I have set up a dozen other Alexa routines that work on other devices.
    2. Alexa Android app prompts me to try "show me the garage", but complains "Sorry, cameras don't work on this device" on
    Richard's Moto g power (2021)
Wife's Samsung says "Live view not supported on this device"
We have the Blink Alexa skill loaded on our phones. Why can't you just launch the Blink app's garage screen.
    3. Sometimes I want to tell Alexa to arm only the garage. Alexa is confused about my 2 cameras names for Outdoor (house) and Mini (garage).
Support guided me thru re-installing as 2 separate locations.
Why can I not arm the cameras separately, OR in a GROUP? Alexa refuses to group 2 cameras.
    4. PUSH notifications need to repeat (at a configurable interval) until acknowledged. What if I miss the alarm? Alarm notifications should be able to override volume and (optionally) DND with a uniquely configurable volume & tone. Should go to my phone AND wife's.
    5. You need an external siren. Amazon Dot speaker not loud enough. Don't want to draw attention my hidden camera. The Alexa Dot sirens are useless; I want a battery wi-fi siren to place in the attic eves.
Having my Outdoor play a siren or turn on an adjacent light invites intruders to smash the camera.
    6. Alexa routine needs more capability. The single short ankle-biter dog bark is a joke. The alarm sounds are short, quiet (even at volume 10), non-threatening. My routine turns on a different light.
    7. Some Alexa routines only display 1 output device. Alexa's FROM parameter should allow selection from any device or GROUP.
(My HOUSE group includes 2 Dots.
My ALL group includes house and 2 phones.)
    8. I want an option to play an Alexa recording of my voice with a threatening inflection that sounds like I am home. "Who's there?".
Speaking thru the camera just prompts an intruder to destroy the camera so I cannot record more evidence.
8b. "Change Voice" blabbers a long response that can only be suppressed by setting volume to zero. But for some silly reason VOICE must be the last command in a routine, leaving the Alexa at zero volume.
    9. Why no 'Glass Break" detector similar to what Guard has?
    10. The "water running" detector mistakes male peeing for a shower.
    11. Microwave "Done" beep uselessly triggers "Appliance Beeping".
I would see value in "Appliance Beeping" for my garage freezer alarm detected by the garage camera, but who has an Alexa Dot in the garage?
    12. Appliance Beeping only triggers from Dot in Bedroom. Cannot change.
    13. Smoke Detector should be a trigger.
    14. It should be able to pattern-match to my legacy doorbell, and trigger on it.
They think like a CAMERA company. Customers are trying to solve a SECURITY problem.
    I am a systems analyst.

WOW! These are great points Richard. I'm sure the Amazon R&D department would love to here them all. I hope they'll listen and make the necessary changes. Customer feed back should be at the top of their list.

What they don’t tell you is that you need a strong wifi signal and I’m stuck on how to fix that . I have 2 extenders and it still doesn’t help me get a signal so I can have a camera at my garage 😖

    • @TeachMe101
      @TeachMe101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Li Zette!
Maybe I can help. If the extenders aren't working wirelessly, then lets try to hard wire them. Check to see if the extender has an ethernet port. If it does... happy days! Now just connect an ethernet cable from your router to that extender. The camera should have no problem with that signal. The only problem you may encounter is finding a good way to run the wire. Please let me know if this helps.

Hate the virtual background. Very tacky. Good review, though.
For me, the short snapshot type video capture is far better than nothing and just might make the difference?
Thank you for your fine review. 👍

I thought when Amazon bought the company things would get better. However they did not.
My biggest problem is there is no administrative account. I was hoping that all the owners in my condo association would be able to login and watch videos without making changes/deleting videos but the blink software does not support it.

Hi Steve. Unfortunately you are correct. Currently the Blink system is not going to support that kind of configuration. You would probably do better with a wired camera system with administrative privileges. This system should allow everyone in the condo to access the footage via the internal network or mobile app. But they would need admin access to delete footage. This is a great comment by the way. I hope everything works out for you.

great video!! I have a question. If the setting is set to record for 60 seconds and it stops recording and the retrigger time is set to 10 seconds.....does that mean that you will have a 10 second gap in the video footage....or maybe what I am saying is that there will be a 10 second gap between the 2 video files?

Yes you are correct. You will have a gap in your recorded footage. But it could be longer than 10 seconds depending on the movement of the subject. I think they are working on increasing the length of the recorded time but for now there will be a coverage gap. I don't like that. In a higher security situation, I would purchase a camera system that allows 24 hour recording. It's going to be more expensive but what can we do?!....
Thanks for the comment and question.
