    I agree with you completely, no food under 8c and wheat germ based foods under 14c. Look forward to the coming videos. Stay safe and well.

      Thanks! I wanted to do something that is at least related to the weather here today in the Netherlands. Next week most probably a Koi guide again 😉

    Nice video once again, I cover my pond and heat to 13 degrees.
    Find this keeps my filter bacteria going.
    Only feed once a day small amount of sinking Wheatgerm fish look great and helps them recover in the Spring I think.

      Excellent idea indeed. keeping your Koi all winter long at around 13 degrees will surely be beneficial for them, no doubt about that. Sometimes Koi owners do a small feeding stop during winter, even when they heat. Do you do that kind of things?

      Like many others, I think it is quite good for Koi to have a short period without food at a low temperature. It is the same thing in nature for wild carp basically

      Thank you for sharing. Happy to share it! You are quite lucky, probably you can get way better growth rates on your Koi than we are able to reach here in Europe (without heating). Next week again a variety guide incoming!

    I completely agree with you, I just watch my fish when adding slight amounts of food, you’ll know when to stop feeding. 👍

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is indeed most important, keep an eye on your Koi and making sure you don't overfeed them for sure in this period of the year. Stopping in providing them some food is fine when the temperatures are very low

    How do you avoid egg bound females coming out of winter into spring?

    • @Aboutkoi
      @Aboutkoi  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically that means the female was not able to absord the eggs, and the eggs will start to rot inside her body. I'm honestly not sure how to avoid it. I think it would help if you keep the temperatures above 10 degrees to keep her body operating well. But I am not sure if that will avoid it completely

    not feeding them for 3-4 months? I don't think Koi will ever reach full potential if it goes that long with out eating.

      You’ve made a very good point. The background is very different between breeders/dealers/retailers and hobbyists.

      @@KoiRun50 Even in this situation, we are gathering information little by little to see if there are any Japanese amateurs who might be able to help us. In many cases, high-end hobbyists can't be used as a reference. Of course, if I had been a practitioner myself, that would have been the shortest way, but I couldn't have a pond long ago, so... They're all individualistic and curmudgeonly, and yet, while they're not secretive, many of them aren't interested in sharing their methods with others.
