“They would need to sprout wings” I was lucky enough as a kid running around DelMar to go up and meet Trevor and hangout while he called a race the self serve soft ice cream machine was pretty cool to always looked forward to that every year

Tim was right about the class horse in the race, assuming it ran at all in the two allowance races and 50K Maiden race. First time claiming isn't a bad angle depending on the trainer and owner. If they've decided the horse isn't going to be good enough to race in allowance races and maybe handicaps or stakes they'll often put it into a race and dump it. A good trainer will put it in a spot where it can win so they get the check and sell the horse at the same time. Eliminating horses is a risky business.

As years have gone by trainers racing horses every 2-3 weeks are few and far between. Must have learned that they have injuries with more rest. Many horses race no more than once a month. Ive found that a lot of horses seem to hold on to their form if they race within 6-8 weeks and a few works.

@@kevinketcherside9202 Yeah, more rest between races definitely is the style now.

Tim also sewed. There is an interesting book about his life, I think titled "What's So Funny?". (I just learned he helped found the jockeys' fund. )

i caught a discrepancy.. The Jockey said that a horse should have rested at least 21 days between races...but the handicapper made 12- 21 days his cutoff date meaning NO MORE than 21 days. who knows best. i look for everything within 21-30 days 30 being my cutoff date

Yo how long u been handicapping?

I caught this too. I'm totally new to horse racing, or at least since I was a kid. Used to watch C.M. when I was a kid at Hollywood Track on the tv replays and a couple times live. C.M. did say that there are some horses that do well with less than 21 days rest but start to fall off over multiple starts. Then we have the handicapper who basically, as you said contradicts him. I think I would tend to agree with the jockey here as he's riding the horses so I like your21-30 days and will use this when i start picking my first horses to race. we will see how it goes.
