At present, June 30, 2018, we have five black bears in residence at Appalachian Bear Rescue.
    Three five-month-old cubs:
Willow (fur missing from her right front leg)
Viola (fur missing from the back of her neck)
Clementine (the largest of the three)
They live together in a Wild Enclosure and are so active, they’ve been nicknamed “ the bearnadoes”.
    Two seventeen-month-old yearlings:
Magnolia, is a Louisiana Black Bear, a subspecies of the American Black Bear. She resides in her own Wild Enclosure. Magnolia prefers to rest in the shade of the undergrowth or high up in the trees.
Bumble B. Bear, our only male bear in residence, lives in his own Wild Enclosure. He’s shedding his winter coat, a long process.
The yearlings had started the mostly solitary life of a black bear before they came to ABR. They don’t need or want the companionship of other bears in the same way as the cubs.
Our mission is to get all five bears back to the wild as soon as they’re ready. Until then, they’re eating and climbing, gaining weight and strength. Thank you for helping us help them.
Appalachian Bear Rescue (ABR), founded in 1996, is located just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Townsend, Tennessee. It is a rehabilitation center for orphaned and injured black bear cubs, two years of age or younger, with the goal to release them back to the wild as soon as possible.

I Like to look at them for hours. Good that they have each other to play with, and to learn for the future in the wild. Thank you for this long Video!

These lil ones are so adorable, thanks for taking em in & giving em 2nd chance at life!!
With that being said, i dont think its a good idea having play/enrichment items that arent natural. They'll not see tire bridges, plastic ponds, etc in da wild. My worry is they may be tempted 2 travel near homes 2 find these things. Which will put them & da community in possible danger.
    Prayers & blessings

I don’t believe there is anything cuter than bear’s ears. Nubbins come in at a close second, but the ears are the best. Love these cubbies!!

So so sweet! Wonder why are they orphaned?..? Their habitat - beautiful huge forest is still there! Not like jungles in Asia. Are the bears still hunted?..?...Need stronger laws of protection, huge fines, jail sentences if that is the case. More rangers patrolling the places! Lets provide them with safe environment! They are very, very precious!..

Hello, Nitka_22. Often, we don't know why cubs are orphaned, but the main reason is car accidents that kill their mothers. The little cubs are too young to survive on their own so they stay at Appalachian Bear Rescue until they are old enough and big enough to be released back to the wild. There are legal bear hunting seasons here, but there is no hunting allowed in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park where many of our bears are released.

@@AppBlackBearRescue Thank you for that! You guys are awesome! Your work with bears and other wildlife is much appreciated by all of us! I am based in Australia and we are on fire!! It is soooo heartbreaking! Our beautiful koalas and roos are vanishing faster then their habitats! And all other creatures are in such danger.....please look after what we've got...it can disappear in a blink..:-(((

Can somebody tell me how and when we lost Clementine? Please

Hello, Noo's ma. We regret that Clementine died on July 12, 2018. A necropsy performed at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine came back as "inconclusive". Though we suspect she fell from a tree, there were no broken bones to indicate she had. We were very sorry to lose her. ❤️🐻
