lol Dereck spacing out on the moire pattern :-) Videos like this are incredibly helpful to me. As someone that is really just now, finally, getting his toes wet with the whole prog, kosmiche / krautrock, space rock genres, it's these types of videos that really help me to quickly acknowledge what the heavy hitters in their respective genres are. Thanks so much Dereck!
Love your all German Space Rock/ Krautrock albums ! Thanks for downloading and sharing your excellent collections which quiet inspiring, Derek ! Love and Light to you !
You know this music so well, very inspiring to watch. I did find some of the records you show on reissue on a website I sometimes order from. Will buy some this spring.
What strikes me is your Avantgarde Schiphorst Festival in the background! This is a good place to start with to see Faust live. Not far from Hamburg, it's a wonderful, magical festival. Actually Jean-Hervé Peron lives there ;-)
Very nice 👌🏻 I went from psych to prog and landed on Krautrock. It's all I look for. Cute how Americans pronounce these German titles 😄👍🏻 Amazing records. Have some of them. I did miss some Neu!
Cheers Dereck - thanks for turning me on to Amon Düül 11- love Can and Neu but struggle with the electronic minimalism of much of Faust and Cluster. So great to find Amon Düül 11 via your taste buds - they return me to the chaos world from whence I came.
I activated my account and now I am finally able to comment. I've been watching your channel for some years now and I just wanted to let you know that your videos really inspired me to broaden my musical horizon. I love especially your Krautrock collection. Much love from Germany! Diana
Damn man, you are a wealth of information in this genre! I feel like I've missed on so much great music and I need to do a lot of catch up on. Why isn't this stuff more well known here in the US? I feel like I've been cheated. SMH. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I was a teenager in the 70's, (66 now) & was fortunate to be able to dip heavily into the exploding prog multiverse of the time, INCLUDING much Kratrock. Faves include Kraan, Amon Duul II, Tangs, Klaus Schulze, Triumvirat, Nine Days Wonder, to name a few. (Does Nektar count as Krautrock?) I want to mention one particular obscure personal fave, Stefan Zauner's "Prism and Views," circa 1977. Stefan was a late career Amon Duul II keyboardist, and "Prism" was his solo album. OUTSTANDING & worth seeking out. Stefan left Amon Duul to join Deutsch pop band Muchener Freiheit, whose albums are also worthy, though definitely NOT prog. Thanks for giving these way "left of center" artists a moment in the spotlight.
Hi Dereck, at first I'm touched for your compassion for the music, that I grew up wit!. At that time it was called "Underground" , mainly recognized in a certain alternative scene. I come from Unna, where the first Gig of Can and Kraftwerk happened at the same day in 1970 , a new step in music history. You know the first three Kraftwerk-Albums ? It was real Krautrock, but very original.I am surprised you even know "Between". I own the album " Hesse Between Music" , it's fantastic! Another Space Rock Monster album is Grobschnitt, "Solar Music live ", saw them live in Unna also, with 15 It blew my mind.. Other recommendations for space rock at that time Eberhard Schöner (with the Police, totally unknown at that time) and Conrad Schnitzler, ex-Tangerine Dream, album "con-struct", neo space classic. Thank you very much!
One more fun fact. I have no way of knowing whether this is related, but I was a huge fan of science fiction/fantasy back in the '70's, and at age 12, I connected with Jack Vance's 1950 Masterpiece, "The Dying Earth." In the opening story, "Mazirian the Magician" the titular protagonist Mazirian is getting ready to dispatch a cannibalistic deodand, whose final curse to Mazirian is "May Kraan hold your living brain in acid!" HA! No way to tell whether German prog combo Kraan nicked the name here, but it sure seems likely. I do wonder, though, how much of the gem-like prose & VERY dry humor of Vance would survive translation to German. "Dying Earth" is a personal GOAT, but Vance is not for everyone. The Kraan connection, though I think is relevant & worth sharing.
Hey Dereck! Thanks for the shout out! Glad people are enjoying my videos, I love showing my records and talking to people about music so this is just great for me. You have so many great albums here... I really need to catch up on Amon Duul I / II. Love Ash Ra Tempel, the first two albums in particular. Need to check out Between definitely, heard of them before. Man! Cluster!! Incredible! Their albums are so rare, especially the first. Are they first pressings???
I just discovered Krautrock recently and directed a video issued on my Channel. Residing in EUROPE as an American citizen. I discovered so much. Krautrock is in my opinion, Rock'n'roll mixed with synthesizer derangement syndrome.
Great to know I'm not alone in loving Krautrock. I was an avid collector in the 70's. I also loved the prog music coming out of Italy, France, Holland, and Hungary. Prog music was so obscure here in Melbourne in the 70's, that the $1 Bargain Bins at my favourite record stores were overflowing with the stuff. I would get cold sweats whenever I flipped through the records. I wanted to buy them all, but could only afford a few at a time. I'd rush back home to listen to them, and when I found a good one (which was almost always), the feeling was better than sex. Unfortunately, the digital age has killed off the record store bargain bins. I miss those days.
This got me interested in Amon Düül II a couple yrs ago, but I didn’t understand their stuff, (mainly CAN, Neu fan) I have finally been really listening, & can ‘grasp’ their material, & I LUV it!! OMG - Been into ‘Wolf City’ a lot, at the moment. Really inspiring me!! Thanks!
Its great music. I'm like that too, I once had a fortune into my record collection for pennies on the dollar compared to now. The things that have gone in and out of my hands from way back as the 70's and 80's that I would buy at garage sales amd thrift stores for 50 cents. Now they go for Rodeo Drive LA prices! I've learned my lesson: hang on to your records! Nice work on the collection.
The perfect reference guide for anyone who want to sample some Krautrock.. The Vinyl Community has helped me add some of these masterpieces into my collection. Rob/Boston
Musik Von Harmonia, the first Harmonia is one of my favourite albums too...it sounds still very contemporary. Incredible to think it was recorded in 1974.
YES. The almighty Amon Duul. I'll say it yet AGAIN. Your collection of this stuff is fan-fuck-ing-tastic. I have the US version of Dance. Great collage, def. see the similarities w/ that AD cover. I must've bid on that Ashra LP a dozen times. It goes for some serious cash. Love the Cluster. I could go on & on. Superb selections from Germany's greatest bands.
I dont know if you already have mad this video but i would love it if your did a video on your collages/ art work. Particularly ones relating to music or album art works you have made. I am really interested with how people synthesise music into the visual format, its like a very sincere music review in a sense. Much love to u dude, love your collection and your work, your like the space rock Winston Smith (the collage dude), i dig that shit, keep it going
Love your vids. 'Ashra - New Age Of Earth' (1976) and 'Michael Hoenig - Departure From The Northern Wasteland' (1978)' are among my all time favourite Krautrock records. The album covers are also very unique and pretty much reflect's what can be heard. If you can find it, enjoy:)
Beautiful German pressing of Tago Mago, very very rare now. I've only ever seen one. That Soundtracks sleeve you have is the original German design. Looks great. I only recently picked up my Future Days, definitely the hardest one to find in nice condition. Man you have Unlimited Edition on Caroline!!! Desperately after that, it's very hard to come across now. Rite Time is hugely overlooked and very good, never seen that on vinyl!
PS love the way you say prog i thought Prague ::]] a music genre i knew not excellent some things i have not heard and will chase now.... nice to see fans are all around the world .... that music still means so much to me now... after all these years..... thank you Derek
I heard you talking about Dom before, really need to check that album out but repressings are scarce here too. Wow!! Harmonia!! Love them, the first album is my favourite. So rare!!! Wish I had the Neu albums, they are way up there for me... Love Guru Guru, again I don't have any... UFO is insane. Been waiting to see your Can albums!! Looks like an early Monster Movie you have there, have you ever seen the very first Music Factory pressing? That's a four figure album!
I see you have a great collection like me. I stopped counting but over 100,000 records not including 45's and cd's. I also love the EUROCK as a syth player and magician. I will be selling all but a few to start a non-profit to make hunger disappear with magic FUN-raisers.
just stumbled across this channel and subscribed almost instantly. Just such a delight to hear someone geek out. A question: what's the song playing all throughout the early stretch from around minutes 12 to 15 and beyond? It's such an earworm.

Awesome records. I recently getting into these records. Thx for showing. Love your channel. Have a great day. Art

Great to see you nerding out on this beautiful genre. Neu's Isi was played at my friend's funeral.
That Faust cover IS awesome ! Thank you for opening up your world to us , Mr.Dereck
Wow. Just landed on this channel by total accident and love it. Big “German Spacerock” fan, but I prefer the original term. Yeti is superb, my fave
Kraan. Andy Nogger is a Masterpiece.
Also Amon Duul ,Almost Alive. Live in Jericho is an exceptional tune.
Jeez I was on my way to bed, ended up sitting down and watching the whole video 😅
Love your collection and your passion for this music dude.
First off, love your taste. Love your collection, and hearing you talk about all my favorites. Great job, thanks again.

I could sit and watch you play with the Faust cover all day long.
I heard the Gurus live 1975 in Germany/Gernsbach,and I played home session with Kraan.
Very cool!
Just remembered I have that Cluster & Eno. I will listen to that today!

really nice collection of Krautrock.
"Devotion" on And the Waters Opened is an AMAZING track.

I was lucky enough to pick up the German original of Phalus Dei recently. The same seller had Wolf City but that escaped my clutches alas.
I love those albums. Especially Fallas Dei. and that album rules.
I see you have a great collection like me. I stopped counting but over 100,000 records not including 45's and cd's. I also love the EUROCK as a syth player and magician. I will be selling all but a few to start a non-profit to make hunger disappear with magic FUN-raisers.

Great video Dereck! I know I've left a lot of comments on here but you showed a lot of great stuff!!! Where's the Embryo at?! Haha. Peace, Erik
Problem with Can's "Out of Reach" was Czukay had left, Schmidt wanted to go commercial and tried to make Can function like a "conventional" rock band and hoped that Gee and Baah would make them big like Traffic. The result was disasterous as you are well aware. Pitchfork has a hilarious review of "Out of Reach".
Love this.
Any chance of you doing an upload just on Klaus Schulze?
Nice collection! Did you hear the Faust album that came out this year? If so what did you think of it?
Forgive me but i hope you know that you have amon duul and amon duul 2 ? Once the same band in student days but dplit into two. Amon duul 2 gained more popularity. Thanks for being in my head with your collection. 😁
You got great taste in kroutrock all those albums you showed are good i agree with you that can in there later years wasnt that good
