Yes, he was and I wish I could sing 1/200th as well as he. What a gorgeous song and his Band is so melodic, great arranging. Don't you wish we could turn on our radio and hear this music from the 1930's/40's. John Coltrane loved this song and recorded it many times... peace out from TX.
Billy Eckstein was the Michael Jackson of his Era minus the big record company promotion. He was 40 years too early. RIP Billy Eckstein you made American music great. Thank you 😇😎💖👍
He was an excellent singer and the music of this era was of its highest quality and standard too, unlike of today's trash where most of the songs are only for commercial purposes and therefore they are short-lived. I'm 51 years old and I like this kind of music very much.
Actually, Billy was signed to a big record company at that time. Capitol Records. Did they promote him as much as they could have? Probably not because of the racial aspects of society at the time.
@@MrAwsome697 Unless I'm wrong, "I Want to Talk About You" is an Eckstine original, here arranged by Tadd Dameron. "Our Delight" is written and arranged by Tadd Dameron
He was as big as his voice and could sing with the best of them, and actually he could have made more money without quesstion he band but didn't want to and as a result he became maybe the biggest contributer in the delevopement of be-bop.
He should have been the biggest Crooner on the business but Racism stop because he would've had more women fans than Joe Louis, and I think he did, WORD

1. Is this from a movie (what movie?) or is it a soundie? 2. What is the name of the instrument BE plays that looks like a combination of trumpet and trombone?
1. This clip was uploaded from a collection, so probably a "soundie". 2. That is a valve trombone. As the name implies, it uses valves instead of the slide to vary the sound.
He was gorgeous 😍

Wow, very classy. They need to bring back and play this stuff back on radio today.
Big Band is a dead genre. It's important we remember how great it was at the time.
Now we have Ice Spice and Sexxy Red 🤦♂️
The best jazz orchestra ever, and the best male singer.
Takes me back to before I was born. Love it! Love it!
GREAT TALENT ICONS in Mr. B's Orchestra...OMG!!!!!
I just read "Smoketown," about the black Renaissance in Pittsburgh during the mid 20th century. I had to look this guy up! He was a national treasure!
Thank you for mentioning this book. I just saw your comment, went to ebay and found a new one on 84 percent discount. Talk about timely!
Just ordered from Amazon.
OMG, what e gem!thank you for sharing!🙏
Looks like possibly a young Frank Wess on tenor at far right in the section (played a solo on "Our Delight")
It should be noted that this is a relatively early arrangement by none other than Tadd Dameron!
Word
Why they always make it so hard to find who wrote these jazz pieces originally
