I have been around since the original Water Pump Disaster saga. I have enjoyed every video since. Thank you Zeth. You are a genuine person, a great tech, and a very informative videographer. I am 20 years old and I have always been fascinated by diesel, farm machinery, and overall wrenching. I have been working professionally as a diesel ag mechanic at a private mechanic shop for just about three years now. And in the future I might be looking into working at AKRS John Deere in Syracuse Nebraska. I love working as a mechanic. Every day can be a challenge, but thats what keeps life interesting. It takes a special breed to do this for a living. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Keep up the good work Skins!
G'day Zeth, could I make a suggestion to add to your service truck, carry a piece of cardboard (coreflute paper) 3 ft by 6ft on your truck to save you from having to crawl around on the ground. In Australia we are well accustomed to working in the dirt, using the cardboard makes it much easier to slide around under the combine and keeps you a bit cleaner.
Nice fix Zeth for what can be a bugger of a problem if your out in the field all day yanking steering that's too heavy and was great to see two techs that are in tune with each other making the job flow nice and smoothly. Thanks for keeping us oldies entertained and for helping farmers and other techs carry out their maintenance tasks.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Very interesting change over of hydraulic cylinders. Never knew you could upgrade those cylinders. Can understand where that would make it steer a lot easier. Seeing you and josh do it points you in the right direction. Not a real bad redo once you see your video. Pretty much a step by step situation. Main thing to remember is you need the larger fittings for the hydraulic hoses fit into the cylinders. Surprised that is not part of the kit, but old well. Thanks to ZK and Josh for showing us the way to do it. Many thanks to both of you. The Iowa Farm Boy.
SnapOn Plyers = Knipex + Visegrips + Channellocks + PIPE WRENCH......what an idea!!! My dad would of loved one, he was a Ridgid man😂😂 ( plumber, pipe fitter ) Great job Zach and Josh, I love all your videos, entertaining and educational.... keep them Deers RUNNNNING!
By far the best info on this call was those fantastic SnapOn PZ4 grips! My eyes lit up when I saw them. Had a pair of very similar tools here in U.K. but made in Germany by Shuede or some such - my brother and I did a lot of pipefitting and section boiler work and that tool had the reputation of - get it on a nut or bolt - and something had to give. SnapOn design is even chunkier as you'd expect - I'm going to clench everything up and look at the price! Secondary thing - how old were those boots on the steering arms? looked well shot.
I recommend carrying a few ubolt nuts with you. Most ubolt nuts are the same thread as the tie rod end castle nuts. Take the castle nut off and thread the ubolt nut on and hit that. they are harder and the threads are longer
Another great video. Why does that tractor have such a small steering wheel? One would think a big tractor needs a bigger steering wheel. More leverage would also help. Thanks again for great content.
If you are turning around at the end of a row then having a small wheel is nice to whip it around quickly, with the hydraulics you dont need as much leverage
Ok, so I have a question. I always have to get the torch and it can be a pain. What the heck is that you are using? I'm absolutely astounded at what that little bugger can do. I will buy one for sure but want exactly what you have!!
Hey man kinda off topic from the vid but do you at what hours the valves setting should be done at our tractor? I think it has around 4500hrs and its a 7290r
When they moved the tire it was jacked up and the tie rod unhooked. Drop the combine down and with both tires touching the ground with the weight of the back end of the combine being supported and the tie rods connected it is a different story.
I understand that. I would think a hydraulic cylinder would have no problem. Guess I was thinking it could have been another problem instead of needing a bigger cylinder.
That different sized hose fitting might be a good example of how artificial intelligence (AI) could change a lot of things. Someone could input instructions into the parts ordering system instructing the computer to check for parts compatibility between the new part being ordered, and the existing parts on the machine, and a notice would pop up saying that a different hose fitting may be required. Soon, the computer would learn to check for things like that all by itself. For the entire planet, that would save billions of dollars in wasted time and fuel.
Been doing this stuff for over 40 years. Should have stayed away from the trucking and heavy equipment and went into agriculture machines. Ive noticed no one works with any kind of urgency, all have Snap on tools. And to beat all,2 field mechanics to do this? Definitely picked the wrong industry.

I have a shop repair, all outdoor power equipment. I hate watching your program because I can’t get away from it.😂
Yup these pliers are awesome, they are knockoffs invented by "Bahco" Sweden.
Love the videos.
Thanks for sharing.

Another great video ! My dad taught me long ago take the castle nut off and flip it. It only takes one glancing blow to screw things up.
Love the humor. If you cant have fun at work its not fun any for. Keep up the good work.
Great team work and nice upgrade
Thanks for another sweet video always awesome to see ya working on the iron
Zeth Awesome video Yes Sir keep that green iron moving. Hello from Thomason tractor
I never seen such big players. May God bless.

Grab some cheap moving blanket to place on ground. You'll be cleaner and tad bit softer. Can also use as knee pad when folded.
Great job, Zeth!!
Great job coworker 👍👍👍
Another great video Zeth keep up the good work 👍👍👍

I have set of those snap on pipe wrenches best I’ve ever had they’ll grip anything
Zeth - hope you're not badly affected by the Madison JD fire
They did a great job.
That looked like fun. Good job men.
Do you think you could do a corn head inspection video sometime? Great content BTW!
Thanks for sharing.

Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪 is it possible to change a variable drum speed belt without taking off returns auger jd 2264 combine not a rotary machine
" Slip and kill " lol . I like my SK tools , what little I have of them .
I see you have a S & K (slip and kill) 32mm wrench. Good old tool brand!
It’s one of my spares I beat on.
What is the 3/4 to the front of the tractor and the quarter to the back
Those pliers are a Swedish design used for perhaps the past 100 years!
I need that lazy man's pipe wrench pliers😂
I have a 9660sts that steers hard like that as well, is there a upgrade cyl for those older ones as well ?
Ok, so I have a question. I always have to get the torch and it can be a pain. What the heck is that you are using? I'm absolutely astounded at what that little bugger can do. I will buy one for sure but want exactly what you have!!
It’s map gas. Comes in a yellow bottle.
Map gas burns ALOT HOTTER!
😊

@Brobro449 It’s time to check it then.
Whst kind of jack are those , pnuematic, are those in your arensal of tools?
Any idea what something like this would cost.
ZK I have the same problem what would be cost of parts for such a repair. Thanks in advance it does not have to be the exact number.
Does this mean that the default cylinder is sized too small?
To bad JD didn't but right size steering unit on it to begin with.
Is that upgrade possible on STS as well?
could this be updated on a 9770 sts?
Schöne Grüsse from Rheinfall / Switzerland 🇨🇭😇
Tool box tour?
@garrettpitt8682 already did several videos on tool tours.
MAPP gas? Where can you get that stuff anymore?
Hardware store
Great
hopefully jd didn’t charge the customer for two guys when that’s a one man job
You seem like you would be fun at parties…
@@kingrapeypubes5578 what
@@kingrapeypubes5578 🤣
Looks like the steering wheel was designed for a go-cart
Lol. Slip & Kill. Im gonna use that one.
Why when you can move the tire with no effort would it be hard to steer and need a bigger cylinder? Unless the cylinder was equalizing pressure
When they moved the tire it was jacked up and the tie rod unhooked. Drop the combine down and with both tires touching the ground with the weight of the back end of the combine being supported and the tie rods connected it is a different story.

What a tiny steering wheel!
