During our countries current crisis his job as well as all the other men and woman who truck drive, are absolutely essential to the nations survival in this critical moment. my husband is a team driver meaning two drivers 1 truck. Each driver works 10 hours with 1 30 minute break each meaning the truck is moving 20 hours a day. I see my husband for 4-5 days every 5 weeks making stocking him with food impossible not to mention, I wouldn’t be able to buy THAT much food at once anymore. Everywhere my husband goes, he is met with closed restaurants, empty grocery stores and gas stations, and fast food stops with closed dining areas. Big rigs can’t go through the drive thru’s. If my husband and all the other truckers out there can’t eat, most won’t have the energy to keep making deliveries, delivering food and medical supplies. @Ryan Smith Yes! You would be surprised how often in history we fall back on malaria drugs to treat new illnesses. Quinolones have NOT been proven to help COVID 19 illnesses, and these drugs are needed to treat things they actually work against like malaria. Something I like to point out is that quinolones are primarily used to treat parasitic infections, which isn't closely related in this case because COVID19 is a virus. There are some clinical trials exploring existing antivirals but it will take time to determine whether they actually help or if it's just a placebo effect.

There are a whole slew of reasons the man may have recovered, malaria drugs notwithstanding. The fact that the doctor caved was disappointing: these drugs need to be conserved for people who we know will benefit. We cannot let hysteria overtake careful collection of data and assessment of clinical efficacy.
@Ryan Smith the reason they are wrong is because there is no evidence that malaria drugs will help treat COVID-19. Anecdotes from few patient cases is not a good enough reason to create a shortage on malaria drugs for people who actually need them.

my husband is a team driver meaning two drivers 1 truck. Each driver works 10 hours with 1 30 minute break each meaning the truck is moving 20 hours a day. I see my husband for 4-5 days every 5 weeks making stocking him with food impossible not to mention, I wouldn’t be able to buy THAT much food at once anymore.
Everywhere my husband goes, he is met with closed restaurants, empty grocery stores and gas stations, and fast food stops with closed dining areas. Big rigs can’t go through the drive thru’s. If my husband and all the other truckers out there can’t eat, most won’t have the energy to keep making deliveries, delivering food and medical supplies. The whole system will collapse and we will all die.

@Ryan Smith Yes! You would be surprised how often in history we fall back on malaria drugs to treat new illnesses. Quinolones have NOT been proven to help COVID 19 illnesses, and these drugs are needed to treat things they actually work against like malaria. Something I like to point out is that quinolones are primarily used to treat parasitic infections, which isn't closely related in this case because COVID19 is a virus. There are some clinical trials exploring existing antivirals but it will take time to determine whether they actually help or if it's just a placebo effect.

There are a whole slew of reasons the man may have recovered, malaria drugs notwithstanding. We cannot let hysteria overtake careful collection of data and assessment of clinical efficacy.
