These dances are usually done to induce a trance and are dedicated to the black Madonna which is a continuation of the cybele. this is an ancient Turkish mother goddess that was imported to Italy via magna graecia. The dance is even older going back to the Sabines. drumming rituals hold a lot of part in Italy to induce a trance. They are really connecting to mother Earth aka magna mater.growing up we prayed to God in the saints but we also pray to our dead ancestors and pray to the spirits of nature.
