    This is from an ITV special called Discomania from 2004 btw. They were doing tributes to iconic disco songs.

      @@JDoe-gf5ozdefinitely a 4k version of this would be amazing. Rachel so very nearly wobbled her way right out that top. Delicious.

    We already knew Rachel was a knockout. But Brenton Wood's 1967 original and Amii Stewart's 1979 cover knock this one out easily. Assembly-line dance-pop.

      Yes but what I love about the Brits is that Music like that is still popular. The one thing that gets me mad is that quite often The Kids don't know that many of the songs were obscure Blues Songs. How many of them knew it was originally done by Eddie Floyd on Stax Records that was the label that Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas and Johnnie Taylor also recorded for.

    • @kettlecup
      @kettlecup 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eddie Floyd

  • @laminage
    @laminage 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Either way it was just a Tribute Show. Also The "Original" Version was done by Eddie Floyd who Co-Wrote The Song with the Late Bassist of Stax Records Steve "The Colonel" Cropper. Now if Eddie "owns" the Rights to this Song along with Steve Cropper's Estate he is making so much bank. Songwriting is where the real "Money" Comes from. Also could someone tell me when the Boy Bands/Girl Bands Do Cover Versions of songs, do they know it's usually an Old School Song from the 1970's or 1980's. I have to give the Brits made love and respect, when they do a Cover of a Song , A couple of Gold Coins go into the Songwriter's Pockets if they still own the Songs. Nile Rogers is Old School in The US but in the UK he's Pop Royalty.

    Don't know why she is not as famous as Madonna. Rachel is one of the greatest singers ever, and not crazy like Madonna (who I liked in the 80s before she got weird).🍌

    Could someone please explain why there aren't any Black Dancers in this Number. This was a Song originally done by Eddie Floyd on Stax Records which in it's own way continued where Motown Left Off whose Artists were just as influential on UK Artists like Chess (Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley), and Motown. I think I'd be pretty peeved if I saw "My Song" being performed and no Black Representation.

    • @DrPepper22222
      @DrPepper22222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it might be because the producer was racist and didn't want any black girls. Or, far more likely, the producer didn't bring race into every single thing in the world and instead hired the best few dancers put in front of them and none happened to be black.

    • @rockincarbonara
      @rockincarbonara 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, at least the most of them girls are black haired..! :-D
      Allright just joking, let´s talk serious: In music history there are tremendous many songs wich are covers of ANY composer and artist. No matter anymore if black or white. And i guess nowadays everyone knows it was originally a Soul song of the 60´s, composed by Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper . Especally when the Movie "Commitments" came out.... The most important thing in Musicbusiness ist, that the rights owner got his royaltys paid out . And with every single coverversion you´ll hear on the charts, all of those composers Black or white got their money... Otherwise it would be a simple thing to file a criminal comlaint. Even Elvis Presley covered so many Songs of famous black composers and artists. But they´ve paid out! And every artist was super-happy if Elvis would choose THEIR song to cover. Just because the Roylaties bring them Money!
      So my dear friend "laminage". there is no Racism by covering and performing this song. It´s just a cover... A Cover who paids out royalties to the composers an their publishing companies. there is no reason to talk about racism.

      Maybe so, but when you do a "Cover" of an R & B / Disco Song, you know deep in your heart that you're version doesn't hold a candle to the "original".

    This performance was more spectacle than substance. Relied too much on visual effects rather than vocal performance and stage presence, which made it feel gimicky. Felt disappointing back in 2004 and I feel the same about it now.
