Just by facial appearance, it is definitely hard for foreigners to tell Taiwanese from other Asians. I remember that I dropped by Best Buy 25 years ago and the clerk greeted me with "おはようございます”. On the other hand, it is also absolutely difficult for Taiwanese to distinguish Americans from other western people, isn't it?
For the taiwanese that are ethnically han chinese, there is no difference for appearance, but of course there will be slight cultural and language differences just based on environment
Hi, my Taiwanese friend, I am Sichuanese , my brother-in-law is Hubeier, my friend is Jilinese, and my teacher is Xinjianger. Good luck to u alllll.have a good day
I loved the video and I could not imagine that the last guy is from Barcelona (Spain) like me 😂because people in Spain have a wide range of facial features, eyes and hair colours and skin tones but I guess is the same in the different asian countries 😊
yes... they are far nicer than Hong Kong people, Mainlanders, Koreans (intense and never smile and only work with their own group), Japanese (reserved), etc
hi, can you also please make a video from taiwanese people that how they think and how its like for them to talk or make friendship with foreigner , it will be fun to watch
This is not a judgment. You definitely should not walk around America with a video camera and a microphone asking people if they could tell a person is of a particular race / ethnicity just by looking at him/her! LMAO! That would be a HUGE no-no! That said, this type of discussion does take place often in private conversations in America. The fact that this person, Jay, felt okay to ask this question of foreigners on the streets of Taipei might suggest that guessing other people's race / ethnicity isn't a crime. What you do once you've guessed determines your intent, good or bad. p.s. Jay said "order", but the caption read "older".
I think this one I have is more difficult than trying to tell the difference between a chinese and the others - korean and japanese (all 3 main east asian regions) that have dna and cultural mixes through the centuries, being so near. Here's the challenge: Without speaking with any of them (and I think this is harder), how do you differentiate a taiwanese from a singaporean, mainland chinese, hongkonger, and say american (and all are ethnic han chinese)? I say han chinese because these regions or nationalities also contain other ethnicities (and let not throw these other ethnicities from each region into the mix which will be actually easier to distinguish). I mean you can definitely tell the difference between a han chinese and a tajik or uyghur from China, or a malay and a han chinese from Singapore just by appearance.
Its hard, unless they’re Indian or Bangladesh. But Nepal & Myanmar look alike as well, they’re look very South - Asian with strong features, almost anyone ppl can recognize. There are some Nepali, Bangladesh,Indian look more like East Asian than South Asian but generally mostly look South Asian. While Taiwan is East Asian, so their features similar to others East Asian people, its hard. Same for Southeast Asian, Laos Cam Thai Malaysian Punoys,etc.. is similar (except some muslim Malay because their religion head cover so) Its same for blak from Afrika or Blak in Western country & white ppl, cant say where they from. Nothing racist here, this is facts
Anyone who say they can distinguish ethnicities from just looks alone is setting themselves up for failure. The number of times locals think I am Taiwanese is almost 100%, but I'm not but they will insist that I am as if I am lying to them.
This is a difficult question. Did he mean Taiwanese who are originally from Taiwan? Or Chinese Han or Halka people in Taiwan or Chinese Han who came after the Nationalist invasion. They each have their own look, manners and mannerisms, style and way of speaking. But I am not sure which one he is asking about.
英文也是,we are Taiwan/Taiwanese, they are China/Chinese. Please don't use that "mainland/mailander"...

採訪開頭可以講thanks for joining us比較好,thank you so much for your time 感覺好像要結束對話用的

Another great video! But I have to ask: I'm in Taiwan now and how do I make Taiwanese friends?
